When this portable light is used, therefore, the patient can be irradiated with light of sufficiently high illuminance without feeling the glare of the light, and effective treatments can be given without restricting the daily actions of the patient largely. It is preferable to limit the average brightness and maximum brightness of the diffuse light emitted from the surface emission type lighting unit to 1,000-4,000 cd/m and 6,000 cd/m , respectively, to minimize the glare of the light. Treating dementia with visual stimulation to synch gamma oscillations in brain

Номер: AU2018347366A1

Devices, systems, and methods for treating dementia or Alzheimer's disease in a subject in need thereof. In one example, chronic visual stimuli having a frequency of about 30Hz to about 50 Hz, and more specifically about 40 Hz, are non-invasively delivered to the subject to entrain gamma oscillations in multiple brain regions of the subject, including the prefrontal cortex (PFC) and the hippocampus. The entrained gamma oscillations modulate neuronal activity across multiple brain regions (e.g., facilitate functional binding of neural networks at low gamma frequencies) to induce various neuroprotective effects (e.g., amelioration of amyloid plaques and tau hyper-phosphorylation) and reduce neurodegeneration. Neuronal activity mediated by the chronic visual stimuli reduces an immune response in microglia and ameliorates aberrantly modified genes and proteins involved in membrane trafficking, intracellular transport, synaptic function, neuroinflammation and DNA damage response. Behavior modification ...

ASSESSMENT AND MODIFICATION OF CIRCADIAN PHASE AND AMPLITUDE

Номер: CA0001327630C

A method for accurately assessing and rapidly modifying the phase and amplitude of the endogenous circadian pacemaker is disclosed. A circadian cycle modification capacity assessment method comprises (before and after a stimulus) eliminating activityrelated confounding factors) associated with the sleeprest cycle which otherwise mask the state of the endogenous circadian pacemaker. Based on either individual or normative assessment data, the circadian phase and amplitude modification method involves the application of bright (about 9,500 lux) light and, advantageously, episodes of imposed darkness, at critically chosen phases to achieve rapid and stable changes in phase and amplitude. The timing of the episodes of bright light may be chosen either by reference to empirically-derived phase response data, or by using a mathematical model in which the endogenous circadian pacemaker is a van der Pol oscillator. A forcing function in the model is substantially proportional to changes in the ...

A radiation device for therapeutic use in the human body allows the application of light waves to an affected area the body. A bulb, preferably a xenon bulb, produces light which is passed through a lens module having silicon and carbon granules therein. By applying different lenses to the device, a variation in the wavelength of light and radiation applied to an area is achieved. Each lens corresponds to a Shakra energy center. The device has a pistol-like housing to allow for controlled application of the radiation.

RESTRUCTURING NEURAL PATHWAYS IN THE BRAIN WITH A COMBINATION OF TRANSCRANIAL THERAPIES

Номер: CA0003063384A1
Принадлежит: AIRD & MCBURNEY LP

Brain dysfunction can be treated by restructuring neural pathways in the brain. A desired area in the brain to form a new neural pathway is selected. The area receives a sequential combination of (1) transcranial photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) including a series of pulses having a frequency matched to a target brain wave and (2) another transcranial stimulation (e.g., transcranial direct current electrical stimulation and/or transcranial magnetic stimulation). The different stimulation mechanisms ensure that neuroplasticity occurs to restructure a neural pathway that is dysfunctional in nature to a new neural pathway that conducts normally.

An exemplary method of treatment involves the non-invasive delivery of near infrared light (NIR) in 600-1200 nm wavelengths at surface wattage of 10.01-20.00 watts applied using a continuous motion technique. Treatment duration can be 30-1800 seconds, and can be conducted using a specific pulsed NIR technique for minimizing surface tissue heating. This is a novel process of non-invasive NIR/laser therapy. Prior applications used low levels of NIR therapy—most less than 1 watt with some up to 5 watts. Embodiments of the methodologies can be practiced with a laser unit having control for wavelength and for 1-20 watts. A Pulsed (on/off laser beam) control for 1-1000 milliseconds may also be utilized. An applicator with 1-2 cm aperture can be used to produce approximately 0.64-1.95 Joules per cm2 fluence in the depth of tissue. A display detailing watts, time, continuous or pulsing, and Joules of therapy is useful. 1. A light therapy system ( 12 ) for administering a controllable melanopic luminous exposure includes a controllable lighting assembly ( 16 ) for use in delivering the desired luminous exposure. The system further includes a visual display means ( 18 ) for presenting at the same time a visual output such as a video to the patient. A target melanopic luminous exposure for administration to the patient is received by a controller 24 . This target is then adjusted to compensate for an additional melanopic luminous exposure which the visual display means generates in displaying the visual output. A control schedule is then generated for controlling an illuminance of the lighting assembly to deliver over a defined treatment period the adjusted target melanopic luminous exposure. The lighting assembly is then controlled according to the control schedule. In this way both the visual output of the visual display means and the light output of the lighting assembly can be administered, while ensuring that the original target melanopic luminous exposure is delivered and not exceeded.

CIRCADIAN SENSOR SYSTEM

Номер: US20220061758A1
Автор: PAGE Erik Russell
Принадлежит:

A circadian health system (CHS) provides for improving the health of Alzheimer's patients and other persons by controlling their exposure to circadian lighting. Circadian sensor devices (CSDs) are distributed in a living space, e.g., at about eye-level positions on respective walls of room. Each CSD includes a spectral sensor for measuring the intensity of light at various wavelength bands. Captured spectra can be compared to circadian light signatures so that the sources of circadian light can be identified. The identifications then allow predetermined high-resolution, e.g., 5 nm, spectra in the circadian wavelengths of 450-500 nm to be determined. The spectra can then be used to control circadian lighting to provide prescribed doses of circadian stimulus.
