Multiple tubes 16 are each connected to an individual container 18 at one end and a shared manifold 12 at the other to allow fluid communication between the two. The containers are each detachably connected by an elastic clamp 20 designed to seal the container upon the container being pulled off the tube. Ideally the containers are balloons whose necks surround the tubes ends, the clamps are elastic bands and the fluid is water. The manifold has an inlet A spaced away from the tubes which is preferably smaller than the region B to which tubes connect. The manifolds inlet could be internally threaded and connected to a water tap 32, possibly on the end of a hose 14. The containers could include volumetric graduations. The tubes could be flexible with some longer than others to assist spacing of the balloons during filling. Shaking or jerking the housing from which the balloons are freely suspended may be enough to detach them once they reach a threshold weight.

The envelope has an internal volume of up to 20 cu.ft., the ratio of its volume taken to the two-thirds power divided by its surface area is in the range of from about 0.21 to about 0.01, and its weight ranges from about 1.5 x 10<-3> gm/cm<2> to about 1.7 x 10<-2> gm/cm<2>.

A balloon (10) extending generally axially from an opening (14) at a first end. The balloon comprises an elastomeric film (11) having a first thickness and a plurality of intersecting ribs (12) of a second, greater thickness formed on the film. The ribs are adapted so as to be angled with respect to the axis (13) of the balloon and any axis perpendicular thereto. Such a balloon has increased tear resistance, and can be manufactured with conventional dipping techniques without compromising the integrity of the film. Airborne toy 100 comprises a toy body provided with means to help propel the toy upwards and means provided with sufficient weight to return the toy to the ground. The toy may comprise an air filled balloon 102 inside of which is a helium filled balloon 104. Neck 106 of the balloon 102 may be attached to a blower device 108. In use a user fills the balloon 102 with air by blowing air through the device 108. To propel the toy 100 into the air, the user holds the neck 106 and gently pulls on the device 108 to stretch the neck of the balloon. When the neck 106 is released the toy 100 is propelled upwardly by the contraction of the elastic material of the neck 106 and the release of air from the air filled balloon 102. The helium balloon 104 also assists in the upward travel of the toy 100 until all the air in the air filled balloon 102 is expelled and the weight of the device 108 causes the toy to fall back down to the ground under the force of gravity.

ABSTRACT An airborne, free floating, lift-weight balanced toy for manual manipulation includes a closed envelope of polyethylene terephthalate (Mylar(RTM)) filled with helium. The envelope is exactly counterbalanced with one or more ballast members so that the toy will assume a position at a desired distance from the floor or ground when it is let free. Such ballast members are made up of a plurality of weight control modules spirally arranged with respect to each other and held onto the skin of the toy by double face adhesive. In one form of the invention, when such a toy is initially filled with helium and a ballast member is in place, it will have a static balance such that one portion will always come back to being the bottom portion. In a second form, two ballast members are placed so that the toy will remain oriented in space in whatever position it is manually placed, if there are no outside effects except gravity and the lifting effect of the helium working on it. In each form, the ballast members are so positioned with respect to the skin of the toy that when one or more weight control modules are removed serially from the outer end of the spiral toward the inner end thereof, this static balance is not appreciably disturbed.

Such ballasts are ingeniously positioned to first offset the intrinsic weight of said fill valve to create a list-free horizontal attitude. Ballast is subsequently added to the perimeter until said toy is counter-ballanced against the forces of gravity. In the case of a round balloon weighted and positioned horizontally, some ballast is added at its southern most concentric axis in order to easily facilitate the return of a neutral buoyant attitude of said toy, due to the inevitable loss of helium,and without effecting its said static, list-free equilibrium. Means are described to concisely and creatively weight several aerodynamically shaped balloons and it is the specific placement at their perimeters that dramatically enhances the flight, spin and stability of any or all helium filled, neutrally balanced, mylar toys.

The rigid helium balloon has a helium compartment and a separate, channel portion. Helium gas is filled into the helium compartment through a valve in the balloon. Fiberglass rod members are inserted into the channel portion to help retain the desired shape of the balloon. The rod members also provide a counterbalancing weight which prevents the balloon from floating upward. Thus, the balloon, once released into the air, will retain its shape and remain floating at the height from which it was released unless repositioned. No additional weights or tethering devices are required to prevent the balloon from floating upwards.

An amusement game device includes an endless loop of elongated flexible cord having an upper and a lower run. A first pulley assembly is provided to support one end of the loop and is adapted to be connected to a relatively fixed object such as a door or piece of furniture. A hand held, movable control pulley assembly is provided to support the opposite end of the loop and includes a manually rotatable sheave for moving the cord of the runs toward and away from the fixed object. A trolley is supported for movement on the cord of one of the runs of the loop to move back and forth in response to rotation of the hand held pulley. A toy aerial balloon is carried by the trolley and includes a basket with a grappling hook hanging downwardly thereof for picking up various play objects in the surrounding play area as the aerial balloon is moved around by changing the position of the hand held control pulley and by rotating the control pulley to move a balloon back and forth along the run of the loop. Additionally, a releasable aerial toy such as a glider is supported from the trolley in ready position for release to free-flight when the trolley is moved to contact a stop which may be secured at any desired position along the length of the cord loop. During play, the hand held control pulley assembly is manipulated to control the position of the aerial balloon and grappling hook over the play area to pick up and carry various play objects included in the game apparatus.
