Disclosed is a water-repellent nonwoven fabric made of a melt-blown fiber having a single filament denier of 0.005 to 2.0, wherein the fiber packing ratio is 5 to 70% and the water pressure resistance index is 400 to 2,000 mmh<sub>2</sub>0. The nonwoven fabric is used for an oil-water separating filter having a permeability to oil and non-permeability to water. A composite fabric comprising a combination of the nonwoven fabric and an air-permeable knitted or woven fabric laminated and integrated with at least one surface of the nonwoven fabric is useful as an air permeable and water repellent fabric.

Die von vielen Personen benützten Gesichtsmasken (Stoff-Gesichtsmasken [GM), auch MNB, Mund-Nasen-Bedeckung) werden z.B. aus den verschiedensten Stoffen, Geweben etc. gefertigt, und von Personen eingesetzt um sie vor der Einwirkung durch toxische oder infektiöse Stoffe zu schützen. Die Variationsbreite der Grösse der zu erfassenden Teilchen ist sehr gross, sie kann von < 1 µm bis 0,1 mm (Grobstaub) reichen. Die üblichen Stoff- und Papiermasken arbeiten hauptsächlich nach dem Prinzip der Filtration mit geordneten Geweben bzw. mit ungeordneten Faseranordnungen (Vlies, Filz, Papier) in zweidimensional fixierter Anordnung. Die vorliegende Patentanmeldung verwendet das Prinzip einer dreidimensionalen Anordnung von mikroskopisch kleinen, durchlässigen, strukturell fixierten Kunststoff-Bläschen (Schaum), welche zudem den Effekt des Multi-Impakts und der Richtungsänderung des zu reinigenden Luftstroms im Bläschennetzwerk ausnützen. Als Material wird elastischer Kunststoff-Schaum eingesetzt, welcher eine hohe chemische Polarität und damit Ad-/Absorptivität besitzt und dessen Porosität entsprechend den Anforderungen an die Reinigungseffektivität angepasst werden kann. Bei der Anwendung für Gesichtsmasken und anderen Reinigungs-Aufgaben ist eine gute Elastizität erforderlich, damit sich die Masken gut anpassen. A filter media is generally described including an upstream layer of a nonwoven fiber having a denier between about 5.0 and 7.0 and a weight of between about 3.0 and 5.0 opsy, optionally a scrim, and a cap layer of a fiber having a denier between about 0.1 and 5.0, and a weight between about 2.0 and 4.0 opsy carried by the upstream layer and disposed downstream from the upstream layer. The upstream layer, scrim and cap layer can have a weight of about 4.0 opsy, 2.0 opsy and 3.0 opsy respectively. A downstream layer can be disposed between the upstream layer and the cap layer.
