Refuse conversion into compost - by moisture admixture in revolving drum and screen basket

Domestic refuse is homogenized, mixed and ground, after the admixture of water or sewage sludge to raise the moisture content to 45-60%, in a horizontal drum mill. The mill volume is so dimensioned that a constant feed results in a short residence time in the drum. The fraction which can be turned into compost is separated at the discharge end by a screen basket which rotates with the drum. This results in an excellent separation of the fraction which can be processed into compost (paper) from that which cannot be processed. The capital investments and the operating cost of the whole plant are optimized.

The walls 37 of the buckets 35 have deflector portions 38 aligned with the corresponding blades 36 ; the blades and buckets urge the materials axially along the drum. A vibratory apparatus and method for agglomerating chopped bundles of wet fiberglass strands into uniform segments includes a container having a curved inner surface disposed about a generally horizontal axis where the container is mounted on a plurality of springs. The chopped bundles of wet fiberglass strands to be agglomerated are placed onto the curved inner surface at an input end of the container. A vibratory force is produced to cause the chopped bundles of wet fiberglass strands to be moved from the input end toward an output end of the container. The vibratory force causes the chopped bundles of wet fiberglass strands to be directed in a rising and falling path of rolling movement within the container. As a result of the rolling movement of the chopped bundles within the container which is produced by the vibratory force, the chopped bundles of wet fiberglass strands are converted into uniform segments by reason of agglomeration of the wet fiberglass strands.

In-line mixer

An in-line mixer for insertion in a fluid pipeline to mix the fluid flowing through the pipeline comprises a rotary tubular casing composed of magnetic material and rotatably disposed within a housing fitted in the pipeline. A plurality of mixing elements are disposed within the tubular casing and project radially outwardly toward the inner wall of the casing. A set of electromagnetic coils are disposed circumferentially around the outside of the tubular casing and produce a rotating magnetic field to induce rotation of the casing through magnetic coupling of the rotating magnetic field and the magnetic material of the casing. The fluid flowing through the tubular casing is thoroughly stirred and mixed by the combined actions of the mixing elements and the rotating casing, and stagnation of the fluid near the inner wall of the casing is effectively eliminated due to rotation of the casing.

Mixing device

A mixing apparatus includes an outer housing, or pressurized chamber, and an inner housing rotatably disposed in the outer housing. A bulk material inlet is defined at the upper end of the inner housing. The outer housing has a liquid inlet for the introduction of liquid. The inner housing has a plurality of liquid inlet ports for receiving liquid from the inner housing. The bulk material and liquid are mixed in the rotatable inner housing and pass through an exit of inner housing into the pressurized chamber. The slurry then passes out of the pressurized chamber through an outlet in the pressurized chamber. A rotor is disposed in and is connected to the inner housing. Rotation of the rotor causes rotation of the inner housing.

SCREW LIFTER MIXER

A mixer for particulate material has a cylinder supported for rotation about a substantially horizontal axis, the support means being adjustable for elevating its receiving end so as to be operated as a continuous mixer. A plurality of helically flanged screw tubes extend longitudinally as lifters, having their ends secured to the end walls of the cylinder adjacent the wall periphery. As the cylinder rotates the material being mixed is picked up and released by the screw flanges so as to shift parts of the mix axially in either direction. When the receiving end is elevated the total mix is also continually shifted by the incline of the cylinder toward the discharge end. Axial openings at either end are closed by diaphragms, each secured at its center to a rotating tube maintained at a constant angle to the axis of the cylinder by a floor supported bushing.

Apparatus uses engineered collection media to recover mineral particles in a slurry. The apparatus has a tumbler cell and a rotation device to rotate the tumbler cell. The tumbler cell has a container to hold a mixture of the engineered media and the slurry containing the mineral particles. The container is turned such that at least part of the mixture in the upper part of the container is caused to interact with at least part of the mixture in the lower part of the container. As such, the contact between the engineered media and the mineral particles is enhanced. The surfaces of the engineered media are functionalized with a chemical having molecules to attract the mineral particles to the surfaces so as to form mineral laden media. After the mineral laden media are discharged from the tumbler cell, the mineral particles can be separated from the engineered media by stripping.
