The dispenser may be a movable-nozzle or fixed-nozzle dispenser. The discharge outlet of the dispenser has a stub nozzle incorporating a closure valve. A spring urges the closure valve forward to close a discharge opening of the stub nozzle. The nozzle attachment is shaped for oral dosing and has an internal rearwardly-projecting actuating structure which, when the nozzle attachment is coupled onto the stub nozzle, pushes the closure valve open. When the nozzle attachment is removed the spring closes the outlet again. Child-resistant features are described for fitting the nozzle attachment to the stub nozzle.

In a further independent solution, it is provided that the covering part ( 21 ) is inwardly offset with respect to a dispenser wall part ( 7 ), that a window-like opening ( 8 ) associated with the covering part ( 21 ) is formed in the dispenser wall part ( 7 ), that in the rest position the covering part ( 21 ) is aligned with the opening ( 8 ), and that in the dispensing position the covering part ( 21 ) at least partially uncovers the opening ( 8 ) and at least part of the dispensing tube ( 6 ) is exposed in the opening ( 8 ) in order to discharge substance through the opening ( 8 ).

A dispensing pump includes a polymer compression spring assembly. The dispensing pump includes a pump base, and a dispensing head having a piston stem. The polymer compression spring assembly includes a slotted tubular spring element and first and second loading cones received at opposing ends of the slotted tubular spring element. The first loading cone is fixed relative to the pump base while the second loading cone is axially movable with the piston stem and dispensing head. The tubular spring element is disposed coaxially about the piston stem between the cones. When the dispensing head is compressed, the loading cones axially compress toward each other whereby the slotted tubular spring element radially expands to create an opposing contraction force, and in turn, an axial extension force. When released, the spring element elastically contracts to its at rest shape, returning the loading cones and dispensing head to their at rest positions.

In exemplary embodiments of the present invention, “Flairosol” dispensing devices can be provided. Such devices utilize a combination of Flair® technology, pre-compression valves and aerosol-like pressurization of the dispensed liquid. Such a dispensing device has, for example, a main body comprising a pressure chamber, the latter being provided with a pressure piston and a pressure spring. The device further has a piston and a piston chamber which draws liquid from a container, for example, the inner container of a Flair® bottle, and fills the pressure chamber with that liquid as a user operates a trigger in various compression and release strokes. The piston chamber has both an inlet valve and an outlet valve, which serve to prevent backflow. Liquid exiting the piston chamber under pressure (supplied by a user pumping the trigger) enters a central vertical channel which is in fluid communication with both the pressure chamber (above the pressure piston) and a dome valve provided near the outlet channel at the top of the dispensing head. The dome valve has a preset pressure, such that once exceeded by the liquid, opens and allows for a spray. If the liquid pressure drops below such preset pressure, the dome valve closes off the outlet channel, which serves to regulate the strength of the flow and preclude leakage. Alternatively, in an activated embodiment, for example, once the liquid is sufficiently pressurized, it can be dispensed by a user allowing the dome valve to open by pressing on an activation button that removes a dome lock.

Metered quantities of the drug are successively presented in the pressure chamber (4), and then subjected to a sudden and great increase in pressure, to eject the liquid drug through an atomising head (22), to reduce it to a fine atomised spray of small mean particle size - for example, less than 30 micrometres. Non-return valves (13 and 23) control the flow of liquid through the device. The sudden pressure pulse is caused by releasing the spring loaded piston (3), upon depressing an actuating button (35) connected to the latching means (33).

Once the port is opened, the fluid is discharged and further piston movement enables fluid to be pulled upward out of the container secured to the dispenser via an opening formed between the second piston, stem and inner wall of the second cylinder refilling the chamber. The motions of pistons, stem and sleeve are so controlled that accurate dosage is produced independently of the method of actuation.
