In a process of mfrg. coatings of heat-cured synth. resins (e.g. unsatd. polyesters) wherein a heat-curable resin is melted, pre-cured in the melt, applied onto a substrate and finally heat-cured, (opt. with appln. of pressure); the melt whose temp. is below (e.g. 30 degrees C) the starting temp. of the reaction is fed to a heated roller whose temp. is above the starting temp. of the reaction, and the resinous film formed on the roller is pre-cured only on the roller and finally transferred onto the substrate. By this process, a pre-polymn. is easily controlled. The film transferred onto the substrate is reproducibly uniform.

The presen t invention is also directed to applying and drying the layer of the foamed polymerized latex emulsion on a mat of wood fibers or flakes and then crushi ng and curing the crushed layer and the mat into a hardboard having a smooth ha rd coating. The coating of the present invention is useful as a sealer coat on a wood substrate. By adding pigment to polymerized emulsion, the sealer coat can be used to provide a finish coat on the wood substrate.

Liquid aqueous coating composition obtained at step a), is a mordant for wood and contains acrylic resin with concentration in range of 4 to 8 wt. %, contains a thickener with concentration in range of 0.05 to 2.0 wt. % and is characterized by a solids content of at most 25 wt. % with respect to the total weight of the liquid aqueous coating composition. Liquid aqueous coating composition contains less than 1 % with respect to the total weight of the liquid coating, any binding polymer or binder polymer precursor other than acrylic resin. A mixing system with a vessel for supplying a liquid and a device for supplying solid pieces to mix with the liquid. The system has an elongate enclosure with a first end opposing a second end. The enclosure defines a chamber in fluid communication with the vessel to receive the liquid. The chamber also has a inlet and an outlet with the inlet being closer to the first end than the outlet. The chamber receives the pieces from the device through the inlet and issues the pieces through the outlet. A motor driven mixing auger positioned in the chamber between the first and second ends rotates a selected direction about a rotational axis to intermix the liquid and pieces. The auger includes a first helical flight between the inlet and the outlet to convey the pieces from the inlet to the outlet when the shaft is rotated the selected direction. The auger also includes a second helical flight between the first flight and the second end to urge the solid pieces in a direction opposite the first flight. The second flight has a length along the rotational axis of the auger shorter than the first flight. In one variation of this system, the liquid may be a colorant and the solid pieces may include wood chips to be intermixed with the liquid to attain a uniform visual appearance.

A motor driven mixing auger positioned in the chamber between the first and second ends rotates a selected direction about a rotational axis to intermix the liquid and pieces. The auger includes a first helical flight between the inlet and the outlet to convey the pieces from the inlet to the outlet when the shaft is rotated the selected direction. The auger also includes a second helical flight between the first flight and the second end to urge the solid pieces in a direction opposite the first flight. The second flight has a length along the rotational axis of the auger shorter than the first flight. In one variation of this system, the liquid may be a colorant and the solid pieces may include wood chips to be intermixed with the liquid to attain a uniform visual appearance.

【課題】 本発明は、金属粉体の組み合わせおよびこれらの金属粉体の混合比率により、独特の表面形状および色調や輝き等を出すことができる金属粉体塗装方法および金属粉体塗装部材に関するものである。 【解決手段】 本発明の金属粉体塗装方法は、下地材上に3mmないし0.01mmからなる粒径の金属粉体の混合物を塗布することにより下地材を覆っている。前記塗布工程は、少なくとも1種類の前記金属粉体に合成樹脂部材が混合されている。前記合成樹脂部材は、前記3mmないし0.01mmからなる粒径の金属粉体の周りに付着することで、金属粉体を互いに接着するとともに、下地材にも接着する。その後、乾燥工程は、前記合成樹脂部材を乾燥することで、前記金属粉体、合成樹脂部材を前記下地材上により強固に接着させる。 【選択図】 図1

A process is provided for treating wood products including lumber, plywood and other engineered wood products comprising the steps of applying an aqueous fire-retardant impregnate, such that it impregnates the wood, and subsequently applying a intumescent coating comprising a polymer, a source of mineral acid catalyst, a source or carbon, and a source of non-flammable gas, to the surface of the wood product. In one embodiment, said process confers fire-retardant properties to the wood products sufficient to pass the extended burn test of ASTM E-84. The present invention also provides fire retardant wood products.

An improved process for manufacture of polymer coated composite substrates is described. A coated composite substrate is prepared in the press by applying a layer of a primer coating composition to the surface of a compressible mat comprising fibers and/or particles and a resin binder. The primer coating composition is formulated preferably as a fast setting polymer latex capable of forming a chemically crosslinked polymer matrix when applied to the surface of a compressible mat. A thermosetting top coat composition can be applied directly over the wet primer coating composition before heat-processing the mat to improve surface quality and release characteristics. Compressing and heating the coated mat produces a primed composite substrate directly out of the press.
