The rods are compressed by thrust generators 12 against abutments 28 of the frame. The compressive load is controlled either by strain gauges 17 which measure the tensile load in the frame, or by a load cell 37, situated beneath a mechanical or hydraulic serewdown 36, which measures the rolling load, so that the tensile strain in the frame members is kept constant. The thrust generators 12 may be situated above the upper chock, with the rods 26 and 27 passing through the upper chock and bearing against the upper surfaces of the lower chocks.

A rolling mill 10 comprises reducing rolls 16, 17, Figs. 1 and 2, mounted in chocks 22, and back-up rolls 37, the latter being carried in yokes 41 urged towards each other by screws 43, rotated in nuts 44, by worm drives 46, 47 driven by motors 48. The upper chocks 22 are engaged by screws 23, rotated by motors 25 through worm drives, and each upper chock is prestressed by a fluid-pressure piston 29. Roller 37 is urged upwardly by a cross-bar 50, the ends of which are connected to piston and cylinder assemblies, or springs 52. At each side of the mill, chocks 22 are engaged by wedges 53, 54, which are actuated by a motor 66 to vary the roll pass. A shelf 67 carries a pair of wedges 68, 72 at each bottom chock 22, to adjust the positions of the latter. When the rolling mill has been prestressed by pistons 29 and screws 43, screws 23 are actuated to engage the upper chocks, and the pressure on pistons 29 is relieved. In a modification, each screw 23, Fig. 4, has a pair of pistons 76. In a further modification, the rolls 79, 81 are backed up by large stiff back-up rolls 86, 87 Fig. 5. The roll gap in a 4-high mill is determined either by lands 21 (Fig. 1) at the ends of the work rolls 12, 13 or by rollers 36 (Fig. 7) acting on the suitably profiled ends of the rolls. The rollers are horizontally movable within yokes in the housings, and are driven by the work rolls. A prestressing force P is applied to the bearings of the backing rolls 15, 16 to control the pressure between the contacting lands 21 or the profiled roll ends to thereby control the roll gap. A bending moment may be applied to the journals of the rolls 15, 16 to counteract bending of the work rolls under load. Gauge control of a strip 14 may be enhanced by the additional use of a screwdown controlled in response to measured strip thickness, or by controlling the strip tension. The end portions of the backing rolls may be supported in 180 degrees hydrodynamic or hydrostatic bearings. (For Figures see next page.)

It comprises an actuating means located between the housings of the mill, so as to vary the relative separation or the relative orientation or both of the two halves of the housing during rolling. The actuating means includes at least one hydraulic lifting ram disposed substantially between the two halves of the housing, and ideally four hydraulic lifting rams each ram disposed at the corner position of a rectangular housing. The hydraulic lifting rams are of the doughnut type, encompassing each of the hydraulic cylinder's columns. The dynamic position control means includes position monitoring means, in particular, four position transducers mounted between the four respective corners of the housings. The cross-heads are urged together by hydraulic cylinders 12A, 12B, 12C, 12D and are guided by plates 11 mounted on the mill frame. A transducer 15 is provided at each comer of the mill to measure the separation of the cross-heads, each transducer being associated with its respective control cylinder to control the thickness of the rolled strip and keep the separation of the crossheads equal. A prestressing cylinder 13 is provided between the frame and the back-up roll chock 5. In an alternative embodiment, Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown), screw jacks (23) replace the transducers 15. The jacks act on load cells (17). The bearing may be formed from a wire woven backing coated with P.T.F.E. or be roller elements mounted in a cage. The bearing may be lubricated.

본 발명은 블룸을 관재로 변형하기 위해 운동 방향으로 선형 이동 가능하게 지지된 제1 압연 스탠드(1)를 포함하는 필거 압연 밀에 관한 것이다. 압연 스탠드(1)에는 블룸을 관재로 변형하기 위한 2개의 롤러들(2, 3)이 샤프트들 상에 회전 가능하게 지지되되, 롤러들(2, 3) 중 하나는 구동 피니언(6)과 함께 일 샤프트 상에 배치되도록 지지된다. 구동 피니언(6)은 고정적 랙(5) 내에 맞물리고, 고정적 랙은 랙 홀더(4)에 고정됨으로써, 압연 스탠드(1)의 병진 운동은 구동 피니언(6)이 랙(5) 내에 맞물림으로써 구동 피니언(6) 및 이로 인하여 구동 피니언(6)의 샤프트 상에 배치되는 롤러(2, 3)뿐만 아니라 2개의 롤러들(2, 3) 중 다른 롤러의 회전 운동을 반대 방향으로 야기한다. 압연 스탠드(1)는 크랭크 구동 장치와 연결되어, 필거 압연 밀의 구동 시 구동 모터의 회전 운동은 푸시 로드를 통해 압연 스탠드(1)의 진동성 병진 운동으로 변환된다. 반면, 본 발명에 따른 랙 홀더(4)에 의해, 간단하고 비용 효과적 방식으로 완전히 압연된 관재의 제조될 관재 직경에 맞춰질 수 있는 필거 압연 밀이 제공될 수 있어서 다양한 직경을 가진 관재의 제조가 동일한 필거 압연 밀 내에서 가능하다. 이를 위해 랙 홀더(4)는 제1 압연 스탠드(1)가 제1 치수와 상이한 제2 치수를 가지는 제2 압연 스탠드로 교환 가능하도록 형성된다. 완전히 압연된 관재의 관재 직경 요건에 맞게 압연 스탠드를 조정함으로써 이러한 관재는 제조 공정 후에 개선된 정확도 및 정밀도를 포함한다.

A dynamic position control means for a cluster mill which has a two-part pre-stressed housing in which the two parts are joined by hydraulic cylinders and associated columns. It comprises an actuating means located between the housings of the mill, so as to vary the relative separation or the relative orientation or both of the two halves of the housing during rolling. The actuating means includes at least one hydraulic lifting ram disposed substantially between the two halves of the housing, and ideally four hydraulic lifting rams each ram disposed at the corner position of a rectangular housing. The hydraulic lifting rams are of the doughnut type, encompassing each of the hydraulic cylinder's columns. The dynamic position control means includes position monitoring means, in particular, four position transducers mounted between the four respective corners of the housings. Control means then adjust the actuating means in response to the position monitoring means or other measured data. <IMAGE>
