Two-piece metal aerosol container and method of manufacture are provided in accordance with the present invention. A rolled and longitudinally welded cylindrical tube forms the container body, including a cylindrical sidewall and reduced diameter shoulder and neck portions (formed by a sequential necking process), while a separate metal base component is attached via a crimped seam. The open-top end of the container neck portion is curled to receive a manually actuatable dispensing valve assembly. The container is resistant to internal pressures in excess of 311 psi (2150 kPa) and offers increased strength and pressure resistance (compared to a three piece rolled metal aerosol container), while being easy to manufacture and low in cost.

The invention relates to use of an aqueous composition for pretreating can body stock, whereby an inorganic-organic conversion layer is formed, which effects outstanding sliding behavior of the shaped can body stock and in addition offers an outstanding holding primer for subsequent coating. A rotatable forming apparatus and a method for modifying a shape of a container. The rotatable forming apparatus includes a frame and a forming turret assembly. The forming turret assembly includes a drive shaft, a fixed turret portion, a turret starwheel, an axially moveable turret portion and forming ram assemblies. The forming ram assemblies extend around and connect to the axially movable turret portion. Each of the forming ram assemblies includes cam followers, a forming die, a knockout tooling device and a drive cylinder. The cam followers are configured to follow the cam as the forming ram assemblies rotate around the stationary cam. The forming die is operatively connected to the cam followers such that the forming die moves in the vertical direction while following the cam.
