Quick-action mandrel for machine tools

This quick-action mandrel enables mandrels to be reduced in size and the internal clamping of workpieces to be simplified. The workpiece with a cylindrical, conical or stepped bore is clamped continuously between conical clamping surfaces on the mandrel and a slip-on clamping sleeve. For narrow workpieces the clamping sleeve is equipped with a supporting member and can be used either way. With the mandrel accommodated between the tips, the clamping sleeve is stopped by means of cross-screws. Clamping members are formed on the clamping sleeve for accommodating pincers. When both tip pressure and clamping pressure are employed the clamping sleeve is accommodated in the pincers and the mandrel together with the workpiece is inserted into the bore of the clamping sleeve. The tip pressure effects a rapid clamping of the workpiece through the tip, mandrel, workpiece and sleeve.

An arbor or mandrel comprises means for applying an eccentric force to a tool or workpiece if it is not running true. A hob 15 is secured by a nut 17 and a collar 16 to an arbor 11 clamped between centres by a draw-bar 14. Due to clearances and lack of complete contact between the faces of the nut and hob, a force may be applied to the tool which causes the arbor to be slightly bowed. The bow is corrected by the rotation of adjusting screws passing axially through the nut. The hob may be clamped solely by the screws. In a modification, the screws 21, Fig. 3, are carried by a collar 22 which is secured by a nut 24 and a spacing sleeve 23. In a further modification, screws 31, Fig. 4, are provided in the collar 30 also. In a further modification, only one screw is provided. In a final modification, the screws are replaced by wedges or keys.

By pressurizing with a hydraulic fluid, a floating piston is pressed out of the clamping unit to hold the workpieces or tools against a support. A chucking mechanism which reliably attaches and detaches a disc with high precision. The chucking mechanism includes a shaft for supporting the disc and having a tapered recess, a tapered cone adapted to fit in the tapered recess, and a piston for moving a rod, attached to the tapered cone, through a hole formed in the shaft. The mechanism also includes an O-ring having a variable diameter and being disposed between the tapered cone and the tapered recess. As the piston moves the tapered cone in a first direction, the tapered cone gradually expands the diameter of the O-ring to press and fix the disc. As the piston moves the tapered cone in a second direction, the diameter of the O-ring gradually contracts to move out of contact with the disc so as to release the disc.

В консоли 4 выполнены каналы 6 и 9 дл  подвода сжатого воздуха к карманам 8 и 10, одни из которых выполнены на внешней поверхности консоли 4, а другие - на установленной на консоли оправке 11. На консоли также размещены кольцевые магниты 12. В корпусе 3 смонтированы статор 15 с обмоткой 16 и цилиндрический ротор 17 с встречными кольцевыми проточками, на ступице 18 которого закреплены магниты 21, а обечайка 19 которого выведена за пределы корпуса 3 и предназначена дл  зажима обрабатываемой детали 22, устанавливаемой на оправке 11. При подаче воздуха в каналы 6 и 9 деталь 22 "всплывает" относительно оправки, а ротор 17 - относительно консоли 4. 1 ил.

The second shaft is disposed inside the first shaft. The holding member enables the second clamp part and the first clamp part to hold the tool accessary therebetween in a first position, and disables the second clamp part and the first clamp part from holding the tool accessary in a second position. The moving member moves the holding member from the first position to the second position, and the biasing member biases the moving member when the holding member is located in the second position.

The invention relates to a mandrel (13) for centering a workpiece (48) in a machine tool (1). The mandrel (13) comprises two parts, namely a centering element (24) and a clamping element (22), which can be locked together. The centering element (24) is fitted in a fixture element (41) supported on the machine tool and incorporates pneumatically controlled centering devices (33, 35). The centering element (24) is fitted in the fixture element (41) in such a way that a positive pressure occurs between the centering element (24) and the fixture (41), resulting in dust and dirt being kept away from the bearing. The diameter (a) of the portion of the centering element (24) which is fitted in the fixture (41) is independent of the diameter of the workpiece (48) which is to be machined. This means that the centering element can be stably fastened in even when workplaces (48) with small-diameter holes are machined.

The securing mechanism further comprises a displacement arrangement adapted for axially displacing the securing pin along the bore axis of the attaching portion bore between at least a first, attaching position in which the distal end protrudes from within the attaching portion bore through the bottom surface into the attaching portion to a first extent so as to allow the second member to be placed within the attaching portion, having its bottom face aligned against the bottom surface, and a second, securing position in which the distal end protrudes from within the attaching portion bore through the bottom surface into the attaching portion to a second extent, greater than the first extent, so as to engage the inner surface of the second member bore, thereby securing the second member in place.

A pressurized or hydraulic clamp, with piston reset, for securing tools or workpieces, such as grinding wheels, milling tools, and the like, to a shaft. By pressurizing with a hydraulic fluid, a floating piston is pressed out of the clamping unit to hold the workpieces or tools against a support. In order to retract the piston when the hydraulic pressure is released, the circular piston is provided with a bead on its outside or inside, depending upon the application; the bead is connected to one or more springs. The springs, which are pre-tensioned in the starting position, and are further tensioned when the piston is driven out, automatically reset the piston when the pressure is released.
