A lathe tool that works in conjunction with a HUNTER lathe to engage a rotating an inner frictional surface of a flywheel on its axis to perform various symmetrical operations about an axis of rotation such as cutting and facing with a cutting tool. The components of the lathe tool position to one side of the flywheel to allow sufficient clearance for engaging a large flywheel across the full diameter of the flywheel, and also provide adjustment mechanisms for enhanced precision. Disclosed are a wheel lightweight machining fixture and method. The fixture comprises a rotating chuck (1), an electric cylinder (2), a guide rail (3), a slide block (4), a linear motor I (5), radial positioning blocks (6) and the like. When the electric cylinder (2) drives the slide block (4) to move along the guide rail (3), the position where an ultrasonic thickness measuring sensor I (8) is in contact with a wheel spoke can be adjusted, so that the spoke thicknesses at different positions can be detected. Through motion of the turrets, an ultrasonic thickness measuring sensor II (17) can contact the outer rim of the wheel and detect the rim wall thickness. By integrating a measurement feedback system into the manufacturing process, the present invention provides a fixture and a method for minimum entity machining of the rim wall thickness and the spoke thickness of a wheel during the first stage turning process, thereby realizing lightweight manufacturing of the wheel. By adopting the fixture and the method, closed-loop control on the rim thickness and the spoke thickness can be realized when each wheel is machined, so that the control precision is high, and the requirement for continuous production is met.

The feed of each tool-slide is controlled by tracers 18-20 respectively which contact different portions of a pattern 21. The latter is carried at the extremity of an overhead beam 25, Fig. 2, and may be adjusted transversely and longitudinally. The invention relates to a method of reprofiling railway wheels by machining, the wheel rim first of all being checked for cracks and then being reprofiled while taking the crack depth into account. In order to avoid repeated checking with subsequent reprofiling, it is proposed that the axial position of cracks (2-6) and the radial distance (14-18) of each crack root (19-23) from a reference profile (13) which corresponds to the contour of the desired profile be determined, whereupon a desired-profile contour is displaced radially in such a way that it is tangent to the crack root (19) which results in a crack-free profile when the displaced desired-profile contour (24) is followed by a reprofiling tool, whereupon the wheel is reprofiled with at least the depth of cut required to obtain the displaced desired-profile contour. Reshaping of wheel pairs at appropriate turning machines

FIELD: process engineering. SUBSTANCE: this process relates to reshaping of railway vehicle mounted axles running in bearings. This is made at mounted axle turning machines without rolling out from under rolling stock. Said machines incorporate cutting tools, machine system for control over machining tools, drive rollers, axial guide rollers, measuring rollers and mounted axle bearing housing grippers. To decrease amount of removed material at turning, mounted axle with the help of drive rollers is lifted above the track and cocked up, axle bearing housings are locked between drive rollers and clamps. Axial guide roller is fed to inner side of every wheel of said mounted axle and locked at this position. Drive rollers are loaded with extra force. Measuring roller is used to define the actual diameter and wear profile of every wheel. Proceeding from measurement data measured is the smallest actual diameter and, with preset machining allowance, is loaded as preset diameter to machine control system for machining tools.
