In one aspect, a crayon carving device includes a base, a pantograph armature coupled to the base, a crayon positioner, and at least one guide template parallel to the crayon positioner. The pantograph armature includes a motorized drive shaft with a drill tip for carving an outside surface of a crayon body, as well as a guide tip for tracing along a guide template that directs where the drill tip carves. In some embodiments, the guide template includes a stationary bridge support and a plurality of removable carving bucks that insert into one of multiple openings on the bridge support. The surface features of each of the carving bucks may be traced by the guide tip to generate a corresponding carving on the surface of a crayon body.

Milling-machines.-A cam milling - machine more particularly for milling cams of the kind used in the differential gearing device described in Specification 9804/15, [Class 80 (ii), Gearing, Variable speed &c.], and provided with a rotary work-spindle 69 and milling.-cutter spindle 4, has the master cam 80, formed on the back of the chuck or workholder 26, so arranged that the pressure between the guide-roller and this cam tending to accelerate or retard the rotation of the work spindle, is balanced by the corresponding pressures between the tool and the work, caused by the varying obliquity between these parts. The work-spindle 69 is driven from the cutter-spindle 4 through a worm 36 on an extension 30 of the spindle 4, engaging a worm-wheel 38 on a spindle 39, and driving through a jointed extensible shaft 46 and change-speed gearing 60, 61, an interchangeable pinion 64 engaging a gear 65 on the work-holding chuck 26. The work spindle 69 is slidable longitudinally in its support 28, a spring 81 keeping it retracted so that the cam face 80 is always against the conical roller 86, Fig. 9. The cutter spindle 4 is mounted in conical bearings 8, 9, and is adjustable longitudinally by a nut 11, the driving pulley 5 being slidable on the spindle 4 and coupled to it by a pin 6 engaging a slot 10. Work-table feeds.-The work-spindle carrier 28 is mounted on transverse and longitudinal slides, movable by hand-operated pinions 105, 129, and racks 104 and 128 respectively. A spring 110 keeps the slide 100 pressed against a stop 117. Work slides.-The slide 100 may be locked in position by a locking gib 112, Fig. 2, operated by a handle 114. Screws 115 with enlarged bearing surfaces are provided for tight sliding adjustment. A contour and taper turning device for lathes comprises a main bracket, a tool-holding block pivotally carried thereon, a tracer pin secured on the block, a tracer bar rotatably mounted about its longitudinal axis and link means to turn the bar during a machining operation for automatically controlling the angular relationship between the operative edge of the bar and the tracer pin, so that on displacement of the attachment along a lathe bed, a tool carried in the block produces a profile on the work determined by the contour of the operative edge of the tracer bar. A main bracket has a face plate 1 separated by an undercut recess 3, Fig. 3, from an integral rear plate 2. The latter has bolt holes 4 for attachment to a turret. Apertures 5, 6 are provided in the face plate and rear plate, respectively, for the passage of the work, and a tool-carrying block 13 is pivotally mounted on the front face of the face plate 1 by a stub shaft 14. A tool 22 carried in the block overlies the apertures 5, 6 and moves in correspondence with the contoured edge of a tracer bar 11 against which an adjustable tracer pin 12, also carried in the block, is pressed by a spring 18. The bar 11 is held against longitudinal movement during turning and is relatively slidable in a rotatable bush 10 secured in the main bracket. This bush is connected by linkwork 25-28 with the block 13 and as the latter rotates under the influence of the tracer mechanism this rotation is transmitted back to the bush and tracer bar to maintain the latter at right angles to the tracer pin 12. Alternatively the linkwork may be disconnected from the block 13 and controlled by a camshaft driven by the lathe when profiled work of irregular diameter is produced. MACHINE FOR TRACING OR GENERATING THE PROFILE OF AN ORBITING STAR GEAR Abstract of the Disclosure A machine which may be used to either check or to machine the profile of an orbiting star gear for a gerotor type of fluid motor or pump is disclosed. The profile of a star gear is traced due to the interaction of a slide that carries a sensor, or a machining tool, in a back and forth direction toward and away from the star gear and in a second direction transverse to this back and forth direction with respect to a frame member. The slide is driven by an eccentric disc, at a rate which is determined in accordance with the number of teeth on the specific star gear in question. The combined motion of the star gear and the two slides causes the sensor, or the machining tool, to trace out the profile of the desired star gear for the purpose of either checking its profile, or of machining a new gear. A spring member is connected to the frame member to allow the frame member to move in a transverse direction but without rotation.

TITLE AUTOMATIC RESAW SHAKE CUTTER AND METHOD ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A plurality of rows of vertically spaced discs are located on opposite sides of the path of movement of a shake blank as it is pushed along a cutting plane into the path of a bandsaw blade. The discs on each side of the cutting plane have respective radii either uniformly progressively increasing for a portion of their perimeters or uniformly progressively decreasing for a portion of their perimeters so that as the discs rotate they engage opposite side faces of the blank, advancing the blank in the cutting path and simultaneously skew the rearward end of the shake laterally of the cutting plane so that the shake blank is cut along a diagonal. The framework supporting all of the discs can be moved to simultaneously shift all discs laterally to accommodate cutting characteristics of a particular saw blade. Initial positioning of the forward end and final positioning of the rearward end of the blank for overly thick blanks is obtained by cam surfaces on the two rows of discs closest upstream of the blade. The blank is positioned at its forward end so that its side surface is generally in alignment with the cutting plane and as the blade is nearing the rearward edge of the blank the opposite side face of the blank is moved positively into the cutting plane.
