The abrasive article comprises a backing and an abrasive coating on a surface of the backing, and has a centre point and a periphery and the abrasive coating forming a work surface. A plurality of holes extending through the backing and the abrasive coating are provided, through which particulate material may be extracted. The work surface is divided into at least a first inner and a second outer zone, the second zone being concentric with the first and the centre point. Each zone has at least one hole, wherein in each of the first and the second zone the sizes of the holes and their total number forms a hole density for that respective zone. A rotary tool containing a core hub with helical groove on its outer surface filled in with continuous abrasive filament formed by folding of a pre-cut abrasive sheet including multiple bristle like straps extending radially from the hub. The abrasive filament is formed from a roll of abrasive cloth as one continuous piece using a cutting operation and is provided with center-line perforations. These perforations assist folding the filament by providing it with discrete and desired flexibility as well as weakening it in such way that it assists the process of folded edge buckling inside the groove during winding and therefore forms a tight anchoring junction with the hub without need for an adhesive. 1. To change the direction of water flowing toward a painted surface so as to flow toward the center side of a hood, a water deflecting member is provided that extends toward the center side of the hood while extending toward the painted surface as seen in a state where automatic wet sanding is performed. Thus, water bouncing off the painted surface is less likely to scatter over a wide area of the painted surface, and sanding dust is also less likely to scatter over a wide area of the painted surface. As a result, it is possible to eliminate the need for the troublesome task of wiping off sanding dust remaining on the painted surface, and to achieve a quality finish on the painted surface.

An automatic wet sanding apparatus is equipped with a suction unit having a suction nozzle that is located under an automatic wet sanding unit in a state where automatic wet sanding is performed and a suction device that generates a suction force for suctioning water through the suction nozzle, so that water having been used for automatic wet sanding can be suctioned through the suction nozzle. This can significantly reduce the amount of water containing sanding dust that flows down a painted surface under the suction nozzle, and thereby reduce the amount of sanding dust that remains on the painted surface after completion of automatic wet sanding. As a result, it is possible to achieve a quality finish on the painted surface while eliminating the need for the troublesome task of wiping off remaining sanding dust.

A tool with a rotating processing unit with tool elements, preferably an abrading or polishing tool, and with a motor including a drive shaft for driving the processing unit is provided. The drive shaft is drivingly connected with a drive plate disposed at right angles to the drive shaft and provided with first connecting device releasably interacting with corresponding second connecting device which are connected with a base plate for the processing unit. The processing unit will thus be driven by the engagement of the first and second connecting device. The tool elements are fixed in the base plate. A rotary die cuter for a box making machine has an abrading cylinder mounted for rotation alongside the anvil for engaging and resurfacing the blanket of the anvil on a virtually continuous basis to smooth, level and even the surface of the blanket. This resurfacing occurs during normal operation of the rotar y die cutter so no production is lost. The abrading cylinder has a sheet layer of abrasive material spirally wrapped on the surface of the cylinder and bonded thereto with adhesive material on the backside of the sheet layer. The abrading cylinder is movable towards or away from the anvil by a servo motor and gearbox. The position of the abrading cylinder relative to the anvil is determined by an encoder which sends the information to a computer or programmable controller which calculates the changing diameter of the blanket and the amount of speed chan ge that must be imparted to the anvil to compensate for its changing diameter. The computer or programmable controller is connected to a drive system of the anvil to effect the speed change.
