A novel compound angle cutting edge configuration on a die rule, slitter blade, hollow punches, shearing blades, etc. provides cleaner cuts on stock material with less tonnage, improved cutting and cleaner cuts. The die rule cutting edge includes a plurality of side by side notches on only one side of the cutting edge defining a plurality of equally spaced piercing points. A primary cutting edge extends from each piercing point substantially to a next adjacent piercing point and forms a compound angle with an imaginary line through the tips of the piercing points of between about one and fifteen degrees. In use, the cutting edges are axially pressed through stock material to cut blanks of predetermined configuration. The cutting action consists of the piercing points penetrating the material and then the primary cutting edges slicing the stock material from one penetration point, substantially linearly and unidirectionally, to the next adjacent penetration point.

The two members of the die set are held in a register by upper and lower outwardly projecting register tabs on the base die that are received into corresponding register slots in the flexible die and a register bar raised above the surface of the flexible die along side the register slots are on. An edge of the base die lying between the register tabs butts against the register bar. The die members, with a paper between them, are run through a flat bed press to produce embossed cut out patterns.

The colored resin sheet is one which does not break when a DuPont impact test was conducted in accordance with ASTM-D2794 in a 0° C. environment under the conditions of a height of 50 cm, an impactor diameter of 1 inch, an impactor weight of 1 Kg, and a pedestal diameter of ½ inch. 1. The invention relates to rotary punch, particularly a rotary punch comprising a foil cutter for use on the lateral surface of a carrier roll, wherein the foil cutter comprises a base plate having an underside and a top side, wherein at least one blade is disposed on the top side of the base plate, and wherein the top side of the base plate comprises at least one region that adjoins blades and is partially or completely surrounded by blades, in which region parts of the flat stock to be punched can become jammed during punching. According to the invention, the foil cutter, in the at least one region that adjoins blades and is partially or completely surrounded by blades, comprises at least one elevation disposed on the top side of the base plate, which elevation is disposed, designed and connected to the foil cutter such that it prevents jamming of the punched flat stock or partial regions of the punched flat stock.

A chemical removes material from sections not covered by the second pattern and the second pattern is then removed. A chemical removes material from die surface sections not covered by the first pattern. A second method of constructing a die sheet includes covering sections of a die surface with a pattern of photo-resist material having alternating slitting segments and wider perforating segments. A chemical removes material from uncovered sections and completely undercuts the slitting segments to form slitting sections and undercuts the perforating segments to form higher extending perforating sections.

Disclosed is a thin die adapted to be used in a press. The die disclosed herein includes a base or backing portion that provides rigidity to the die assembly. The base includes an indentation defining a boarder around the peripheral edge of the base. A thin die is housed in the indentation of the base and the thin die is adhered to the indentation of the base by an adhesive. The thin die is positioned in the indentation of the base so that raised portions of the thin die are facing away from the indentation in the base to allow the thin die to cut into a sheet material. Ejection foam is adhered to the raised portion side of the thin die by an adhesive so that the ejection foam protects the raised portion of the thin die and provides an ejection means of the cut shape out of the sheet material. Also disclosed is a die and press system utilizing the thin die disclosed herein. Included in the system is a die press, which may be a platen die press or a roller die press. The die press includes a cutting pad that allows the die to cut through the sheet material and into the cutting pad, if a platen die press is used. The system further includes a thin die adapted to be used with a die press. The thin die includes a base portion, a thin die portion, and an ejection foam portion, wherein the base portion and the ejection foam portion sandwich the thin die portion so that the thin die is located in an indentation located in the base and is adhered to the base by an adhesive. Further, the ejection foam portion is adhered to the thin die portion so as to protect raised portions of the thin die portion. The ejection foam protects the raised portions of the thin die portion and acts as an ejection means to eject the cut shapes from the sheet material.
