A generally hollow preform for making a stretch blow-molded container may include a threaded finish portion; a neck portion depending from the finish portion; a transition portion depending from the neck portion; a main portion depending from the transition portion; and a closed, generally rounded tip portion depending from the main portion. The preform may include stretch ratios with respect to the container including an axial stretch ratio of about 3.0 to 3.5, a hoop stretch ratio of about 5.0 to 5.5, and a total stretch ratio of about 15 to 19.25. In some embodiments, high stretch ratios may be achieved with less material, yielding substantial cost savings.

The present invention provides a valve cup () for use with a container () for dispensing a fluid medium stored under pressure. The valve cup () supports a valve () and seals an opening () of the container () and is formed from a semi-crystalline polyester. The present invention also provides a container (), wherein at least a part of the container () surrounding an opening () is formed from a semi-crystal-line polyester. A further valve cup () is formed from a metal or rigid material and further includes a polyester lining (). Dispensing systems () including the above containers () and valve cups () are provided, wherein welding is facilitated between the container () and valve cups (). 1. A valve cup for use with a container for dispensing a fluid medium stored under pressure , the valve cup adapted to support a valve and to seal an opening of the container , wherein:the valve cup is formed from a first plastic material that is a semi-crystalline polyester.2. The valve cup of claim 1 , wherein the first plastic material has a degree of crystallinity greater than 35% claim 1 , preferably greater than 38% claim 1 , when measured using differential scanning calorimetry.3. The valve cup of claim 1 , wherein the first plastic material is selected from the group consisting of: crystallised PET claim 1 , PBT claim 1 , PEN claim 1 , PEN/PET copolymers claim 1 , or a blend of any of the foregoing.4. The present invention describes both a stretch-blow-molded opaque polyester container and a method of making it. The container, typically a beverage bottle has less than 15% transmission of visible light (500 nm) through a 0.4 millimeter wall thickness. It contains from about 0.1 to about 5 wt. % of said opacifying material. The opacifying material may be any material compatible with polyester resin. The method of making the container includes introducing the opacifying material during polymerization, or prepared as a master batch for mixing with the polymer. Selection of certain opacifying materials can also result in favorable reheat properties, gas permeation-barrier improvements, and when the resin contains both opacifying material and oxygen scavenger there can be a synergistic effect with respect to CO 2 permeation.

A plastic container is provided that includes a hollow body portion including a lower supporting base portion; a sidewall portion extending upwardly from the base portion; and a neck portion extending upwardly from the sidewall portion. The neck portion includes a support flange having an upper and lower surface, a tamper-evident formation, and a dispensing opening at the top of the neck portion. In an embodiment, the dispensing opening has an inner diameter that is at least 22 mm, and the vertical distance from the top of the dispensing opening to the lower surface of the support flange is 0.580 inches or less. A preform and method for making a container are also disclosed.

The preform may include stretch ratios with respect to the container including an axial stretch ratio of about 3.0 to 3.5, a hoop stretch ratio of about 5.0 to 5.5, and a total stretch ratio of about 15 to 19.25. In some embodiments, high stretch ratios may be achieved with less material, yielding substantial cost savings.
