The process includes the step of injecting a quantity of molten plastics material (20) into a mould cavity (25) to fill fully the mould cavity; and injecting pressurised fluid (31) into the plastics material in the mould cavity. The remaining plastics material in the mould cavity is permitted to solidify and the fluid is exhausted from the mould cavity. The plastics article is then removed from the mould. The process includes determining when the step of filling full the mould cavity is at or near completion, and initiating the step of injecting pressurised fluid in response to that determination.

A method of performing an injection molding cycle in an injection molding apparatus comprising a manifold that receives an injection fluid , the manifold distributing injection fluid to a fluid delivery channel that delivers the injection fluid under an injection pressure to a gate of a mold cavity and a valve pin having an axis and a tip end , the valve pin being slidably mounted for movement along the axis within the fluid delivery channel , the method comprising:drivably interconnecting the valve pin to an actuator in an arrangement wherein the actuator drives the valve pin upstream and downstream along the axis and drives the tip end of the valve pin upstream and downstream between a first closed position where the tip end of the valve pin obstructs the gate to prevent the injection fluid from flowing into the cavity, a full open position where the injection fluid material flows freely without restriction from the tip end of the pin through the gate, and one or more intermediate positions between the first position and the full open position wherein the tip end of the valve pin restricts flow of the injection fluid along at least a portion of the length of the drive path extending between the first closed position and the intermediate position, and,controllably operating the actuator to drive the valve pin to be disposed or held in a selected intermediate position for a selected period of time during the course of an injection cycle where the tip end of the valve pin restricts flow of injection fluid through the gate to the mold cavity.2. An apparatus and method for eliminating mold lines when molding a part having ferromagnetic pigments is provided. A mold assembly having a mold with a cavity and valve gates is formed. Pucks are fitted at the gates to collect residual cold plastic. The calculation of a specific sequence and timing of the opening of the valve gates is determined based on a calculation of the total number of valve gates needed to fill a part while maintaining acceptable injection molding pressure. Once calculated, the gates are positioned around the mold cavity to balance flow length ratio. A primary gate is chosen for initial injection. The time for the material to flow from the first to the second gate is established. The second gate is opened after the flow front reaches the second gate. This pattern continues until all valve gates are opened. 1. A method for molding a part comprising:calculating a number of valve gates;calculating a position of each valve gate to balance a flow length ratio;injecting material into a first valve gate;determining a time for the material to travel from said first valve gate to a second valve gate; andopening said second valve gate when the material passes said second valve gate.2.
