A method of injection moulding of plastics is to form a moulded article having regions (36, Figs 5a-c) therein of plastics material having different physical properties from adjacent regions. The method employs an injection moulding apparatus comprising a barrel (2, fig 1) containing a screw extending between a feed zone (4) supplied by a feed hopper 10 for plastics material, a compression zone (6) and a me­tering zone (8) for delivery of molten plastics material to a mould. Bodies 22 are supplied in to the hopper (in the form of a ball, pill, ribbon etc) of a material creating a selected physical property in the moulded article; for instance colourants or RFID or other identification elements. The size of the bodies 22 being such as to be delivered to the metering zone (8) substantially unmixed with material having a different physical property and in sufficient quantity to form a said region in the moulded article. Bodies may have inter-linkages as shown in figures 4d-e.

A method is disclosed for die coating a moving substrate with a high viscosity material such as a polymer. The method includes heating and mixing ingredients to form a homogenous mixture, pumping the mixture around a circulation loop with a first pump, maintaining a predetermined pressure of the mixture within the circulation loop, drawing mixture from the circulation loop with a second pump, delivering the mixture using the second pump to an extrusion die adjacent the moving substrate to coat the substrate, and controlling the second pump as a function of at least the speed of the moving substrate to maintain predetermined characteristics of the coating mixture applied to the moving substrate. An apparatus for carrying out the method also is disclosed. 1. A method comprising the steps of:moving a substrate along a processing path at a line speed;mixing a viscous material having a viscosity of 10,000 cP to 20,000 cP at 375° Fahrenheit in a tank to obtain a mixture;pumping the mixture from the tank, through a circulation loop, and back to the tank using a first pump;controlling a pressure in the circulation loop as the mixture is circulated through the circulation loop;extracting at least part of the mixture from the circulation loop using a second pump coupled to the circulation loop;using the second pump, pumping the at least part of the mixture through an extrusion die and onto the substrate; andcontrolling the pumping of the at least part of the mixture by the second pump based, at least in part, on the line speed of the substrate so that a coating of the mixture is deposited onto the substrate by the extrusion die as the substrate is moved along the processing path at the line speed.2. An extrusion nozzle for making tubular preforms has a mandrel extending along a vertical axis, an annular and stationary nozzle body spacedly radially surrounding the mandrel, and a holding ring having an upper end axially slidable in the nozzle body, braced axially downwardly against the nozzle body, and having a lower end spaced radially inward from shiftable limitedly radially relative to the nozzle body. A nozzle ring has an upper end axially slidable in the holding ring, is braced axially downwardly against the nozzle body, and has a radially deflectable lower end forming an annular extrusion gap with the mandrel. A first positioner engages the lower end of nozzle ring and is operable to radially deflect this lower end. A second positioner engages radially with the lower end of the holding ring or with the nozzle ring for radially deflecting same.

The invention provides an electro-chemical cell based on a new chemistry for a flow battery for large scale, e.g., gridscale, electrical energy storage. The invention relates to an extruder which has an extruder housing. The housing has at least two housing parts and is provided with a delivery channel in order to extrude a medium, at least one screw conveyor being located in said channel. The extruder housing is releasably retained on a frame by means of a first retaining device and a shaft section of the screw conveyor is releasably connected to a drive device. According to the invention the housing parts are fixed relative to one another by means of a second retaining device and the extruder housing is connected to the frame and secured against displacement in the longitudinal direction of the extruder housing by means of a third retaining device. When the first and third retaining device) are released, the housing parts can be removed as a unit from the frame.
