A method is disclosed of forming a seam joining together two edges of a piece of fabric coated on one face with a water-impervious high frequency weldable plastics material, so as to form a water-impervious seam. In the method, the two edges are located together with the said coated faces facing outwardly, a binding strip is located over the said coated faces, the face of the binding strip in contact with the coated faces itself being coated with a high frequency activated material, and a radiofrequency field is applied to the seam to weld together adjacent said coated faces of the binding strip and the fabric. Certain forms of polyurethane and poly(vinyl chloride) are given as examples of high frequency activated materials. A novel seam is also disclosed.

An infrared welding system for joining two parts made of thermoplastic material comprises a pair of infrared heaters for heating the two parts while spaced from each other; and energizing the infrared heaters to emit infrared heat and directing the emitted infrared heat onto selected portions of the opposed surfaces of the parts to melt at least portions of the opposed surfaces, while directing an inert gas onto the selected portions to prevent ignition of the melted thermoplastic material. The two parts are clamped together by moving at least one of the parts toward the other part to press the melted surfaces of the parts into contact with each other. The parts are cooled while they remain clamped together to solidify the molten thermoplastic material and thus weld the two parts together.

A method of joining comprising:stitching a pair of textile elements together with a strand to form a seam; andheating and compressing the textile elements and the strand at the seam to (a) form a thermal bond between the textile elements and (b) melt the strand.2. The method recited in claim 1 , wherein the step of heating and compressing includes heating the seam to a temperature that is (a) above a glass transition temperature and below a melting temperature of a thermoplastic polymer material in at least one of the textile elements and (b) above a melting temperature of a thermoplastic polymer material in the strand.3. Vapors in the fuel tank of a vehicle are collected in a carbon canister. An ejector or aspirator is used to purge the carbon canister in a pressure-charged engine in which a positive pressure exists in the intake. A compact ejector includes a substantially planar flange and a venturi tube coupled to the flange with a central axis of the venturi tube substantially parallel to the flange. By manufacturing the ejector in two pieces, dimensions within the ejector: throat, converging section, and diverging section, is more accurate than prior art manufacturing techniques thereby providing better flow characteristics throughout the boost range. By forming one of the two pieces of the ejector integrally with the air intake component in which it is coupled, decreases part count and the number of manufacturing processes.

A system and method for bonding structures includes a method of bonding a first panel to a second panel. An adhesive material is applied to at least one of the first panel and the second panel and is disposed between the first panel and the second panel. A welding device having at least a first electrode and a second electrode is configured to receive and position the first panel and second panel between the first and second electrodes. The welding device generates an electric current with the first and second electrodes to apply to the first panel and the second panel. The electric current generates thermal energy having a first temperature that cures the adhesive material positioned between the first and second electrodes to bond the first panel with the second panel.

An article with a component joined with stitchbonding to a nonwoven textile formed from a plurality of thermoplastic polymer filaments. The nonwoven material, component, yarn, and stitch pattern can be optimized using disclosed structures and components to provide the article with desirable characteristics such as increased tensile and tear strength, improved aesthetics, moisture resistance and to limit or modify the stretch of the article in one or more directions and the like. A variety of products, including apparel (e.g., shirts, pants, footwear) may incorporate the article. In some of these products, the nonwoven textile may also be joined to the component with other bonding structures such as heat bonding, adhesives and the like. 1. A textile article , the textile article comprising:a first component, the first component comprising a nonwoven textile formed from a plurality of polymer filaments, wherein at least some of the polymer filaments are fused together, wherein each polymer filament incorporates a thermoplastic polyurethane material; anda second component, wherein the second component is joined to the first component, the second component being joined to the first component by stitchbonding.2. The textile article of claim 1 , wherein the stitchbonding joins the first component and the second component such that the first component and the second component are coplanar with each other.3. The textile article of claim 1 , wherein the stitchbonding is arranged in a pattern claim 1 , and the pattern extends longitudinally and latitudinally across a plane defined by a surface of the first component and the second component.4. The textile article of claim 1 , wherein the stitchbonding extends through a cross section of the first component and extends through a cross section of the second component.5. A conductive fastener system for connecting a composite structure to a support structure includes a composite structure hole that extends through the composite structure and shares a common axis with a support structure hole that extends at least partially through the support structure. A fastener comprising a shank having an outer surface passes through the composite structure hole and at least partially through the support structure hole and provides an annular space between the outer surface of the shank and the inner surface of the composite structure hole. The annular space is filled with a conductive paste that comprises conductive particles suspended in a bonding agent.
