A heat sealing machine for joining thermoplastic parts includes a heated platen on a movable carriage for advance to a position between the parts to be joined. Replacement platens are mounted in a fixed slide track at right-angles to the direction of carriage movement. In retracted position of the carriage, a portion of the slide track on the carriage alignes with the fixed track, so that the fresh platen can be moved easily into position. The machine is esp. used for joining covers to electric battery cases, e.g. of polypropylene. Platens can quickly be changed to suit different batteries, without waiting for used platen to cool. Need for hot testing and possible readjustment of fresh platen in place, is eliminated. Total time of change is reduced from e.g. 7 hrs. to a few mins.

In a breathable structure, a luer lock cap has a low melting point, and a through-hole to be covered with a breathable film. The breathable film is a two-layered film, in which a second film having a low melting point adheres to a porous first film having water repellency. An auxiliary film body is a two-layered film with an outer shape larger than that of the breathable film, in which a fourth film having a higher melting point adheres to a third film having a low melting point. The breathable film is connected to the auxiliary film body with the second film being heat-laminated to the third film. The auxiliary film body is connected to the luer cap lock with an outer edge portion of the third film being heat-laminated to the luer cap lock.

In the stitching method, overlapping or stacking is performed to form a seam, and heat sealing is performed on the laminate at the seam. The temperature of heat sealing is higher than the melting point of a material layer having the highest melting point in the laminate, but lower than the temperature at which perforation or decomposition occurs in any material layer in the laminate. The heat-stitched seam has excellent windproof, vapor-permeable, virus barrier and liquid-barrier performance, has a smooth appearance without wrinkles, and feels soft. Also provided is a protective textile product prepared by means of the stitching method.

Provided herein are waterproof fabrics that include a base fabric having a body-facing surface and an outward-facing surface, and a hydrophobic, waterproof barrier disposed on the outward-facing surface of the base fabric, a seam through the waterproof fabric, and a waterproof tape disposed on an outward-facing surface of the hydrophobic, waterproof barrier and aligned to seal the seam against water ingress. The base fabric may be a wicking fabric or may be treated with a compound that enhances wicking, and the hydrophobic, waterproof barrier may include a plastic polymer, polyurethane, polyethylene, and/or polytetrafluoroethylene. The waterproof fabrics also may include an abrasion-resistant coating and/or a durable water repellant (DWR) agent disposed on an outward-facing surface of the hydrophobic, waterproof barrier, and one or both of the abrasion-resistant coating and/or DWR agent may be discontinuous. Also provided are methods of making a waterproof fabric.

The laminate comprises: at least one thermoplastic resin fiber layer; at least one vapor-permeable virus-barrier thermoplastic elastomer film layer; and a bonding layer located between the two layers and formed of an adhesive capable of being fused with the two layers. In the stitching method, overlapping or stacking is performed to form a seam, and heat sealing is performed on the laminate at the seam. The temperature of heat sealing is higher than the melting point of a material layer having the highest melting point in the laminate, but lower than the temperature at which perforation or decomposition occurs in any material layer in the laminate. The heat-stitched seam has excellent windproof, vapor-permeable, virus barrier and liquid-barrier performance, has a smooth appearance without wrinkles, and feels soft. Also provided is a protective textile product prepared by means of the stitching method.

An method for ultrasonic-sealing is a method in which a plurality of seal portions (S) are formed in a continuous web (30) at an interval in a direction of transporting the continuous web (30), the continuous web (30) being for an absorbent article, the forming being performed by repeatedly executing ultrasonic-sealing processing on a continuous web (30) that is being transported. The ultrasonic-sealing processing includes: a clamping step of clamping the continuous web (30) with an ultrasonic horn (8) and an anvil (14); a seal-portion forming step of forming the seal portions (S) in the continuous web (30) by vibration of the ultrasonic horn (8) due to receiving an ultrasonic wave generated by an ultrasonic wave generator (9); and an unclamping step of unclamping the continuous web (30). In the seal-portion forming step, the ultrasonic wave generator (9) generates the ultrasonic wave such that a period of time from when the generation of the ultrasonic wave starts until when the generation of the ultrasonic wave ends is longer than a repetition cycle of the ultrasonic-sealing processing.
