Blanks for soles or heels are cut from a sheet of paper, textile or felted base material which has been impregnated to a greater or less degree with an artificial resin, with or without a plasticizer and colouring agent, and are afterwards moulded to shape. The blanks may, alternatively, be impregnated after cutting them from a sheet of untreated base material. A medicated solution may, if desired, be added to the impregnant. A heel, or upper, may be moulded with a sole in one operation by assembling impregnated parts in a mould and applying heat or pressure. A sole for an article of footwear including an outer sole with a lightweight filler therein, an inner sole above the outer sole and a foxing strip integral with the inner sole and surrounding the periphery of the outer sole. The sole is produced using a dummy last with a recess for receiving the filler, a clamping last, mold sides and a bottom mold piston. The outer sole is molded first using the dummy last and filler, a first portion of the mold sides and the mold piston to define a first mold cavity. Then, the inner sole is molded using the clamping last, a lasted upper or the like, a second portion of the mold sides, and the outer sole on the mold piston to define a second mold cavity. By providing suitable recesses in the dummy last and in the first portion of the mold sides, one or more projections which extend through the foxing strip are molded in the first mold cavity.

A process for providing one or more thermoset polymeric materials having elastomeric properties onto an object , said process having at least the following steps:providing a thermoplastic polymeric composition having a viscosity>10 Pa.s at room temperature measured according to ASTM D445-11a and comprising at least one cross-linkable thermoplastic polyurethane material containing radically polymerizable unsaturated groups; and thenoptionally, heating the polymeric composition to achieve a liquid cross-linkable polymeric composition having a viscosity below 4 Pa.s measured according to ASTM D445-11a, and thendepositing the polymeric composition onto an object using a spray, swirl, or extrusion nozzle and wherein the deposition is performed while the object or nozzle are moving to create an object at least partly coated with said polymeric composition; and thenoptionally, cooling down the at least partly coated object to room temperature, and thenoptionally, repeating one of foregoing steps, and thenapplying a cross-linking treatment selected from radical curing, UV curing, or heat treatment in order to convert the cross-linkable thermoplastic polyurethane material(s) into thermoset polymeric material(s).2. An article of footwear has an upper that is direct attached with the sole in a article of footwear mold. The sole has a film extending up sidewalls of the sole to a film edge that is prior to the sidewall and the upper joining. Method of manufacture of the article of footwear includes steps of positioning a film over a mold cavity and then securing the film to the mold. The film is heated and then drawn into the mold cavity under a vacuum. The film forms a liner of the mold cavity. A foam composition is injected into the lined mold cavity. As the foam composition expands, the foam composition interacts with and mechanically engages with the upper that is poisoned at the mold cavity to allow for the mechanical engagement that results in the direct attach of the sole to the upper.

The invention relates to a method for manufacturing the sole structure of a shoe, especially a working and safety shoe, and for fixing it to the upper structure (1). A working shoe is normally worn all day long, and thus the feet will start perspiring. Moisture cannot escape from the inside of the shoe. Sole structures are known, in which ventilation has been provided between the inside and the outside of the shoe through a perforated insole, a vapour-permeable membrane and holes in the tread of the sole structure. The manufacture of such shoes is complex and expensive. In accordance with the invention, a breathable sole structure with a straightforward design can be made by direct injection moulding and can be fixed permanently and tightly to the upper structure. In this construction, the honeycomb (8) is fixed to the insole (2) of the upper structure (1) and the mould (30) known per se for the sole structure (4), having pins extending parallel to the sole structure in its side walls, is closed and direct injection moulding is performed. The pins are adapted to extend into close contact with the side walls of the honeycomb (8) in order to provide air vents (9) between the honeycomb and the outside atmosphere. The sole structure is fixed directly to the upper structure. The invention also relates to the mould for carrying out the method.
