In the cutting device a succession of sheets (20, 37), each having more than one image, is cut from the stock and the sheets are formed into a stack (21; 38) of superimposed cut sheets, either simultaneously with the cutting or in a subsequent step. Finally, a number of blocks of superimposed labels or the like, each having a single image, are cut from the stack of sheets. Thin film labels, systems, and methods of making and using thereof are described. The thin film systems contain a label and a carrier film, where the label contains an overprint layer, indicia, and an adhesive layer. The carrier film may be coated on one or both sides with a release liner. The adhesive layer can be any suitable adhesive, such as a pressure sensitive adhesive, a fluid activatable adhesive, a heat activated adhesive, or a contact activated adhesive. The label is formed by printed or coating one or more layers of precursor material on the carrier film using standard printers. Suitable precursor materials include, but are not limited to epoxys, solvent cast films, polyurethane dispersions, such as acrylic-urethane hybrid polymer dispersions and polyester-polyurethane dispersions. The top layer is adhered to the bottom layer via an adhesive layer there-between. The label further includes a layer of deadener between the label layers, the deadener being on the convex side of the perforation, and terminating at the line, the line extending to opposing edges of the label, where the deadener is at least some distance away from the perforation such that the deadener and the perforation do not abut. The label may further have a layer of adhesive on the bottom layer for adhering the label to a surface. An apparatus and method for producing microperforated patches for MAP includes drilling or punching microperforations through continuously advancing label stock. Holes can be drilled by at least one microperforating laser traversed across the label stock as it advances, a laser beam deflected or split using a servo-driven galvanometer, beam splitters, or a plurality of mirrors, or by drills mounted into a rotating die cylinder across which the stock passes as it is advanced. Numbers and sizes of microperforations can be adjusted by manipulation of laser control parameters, or by exchange of die cylinders. The laser can be a CO2 laser with between 10 W and 100 W output. The drills can be carbide drills. The label stock is typically 6-18 inches wide, and can include an adhesive covered by a release sheet. The stock to be microperforated can include separate rows of labels or can be suitable for die-cutting after microperforation.

A method for cleanly separating cards cut from adhesive signage for store shelving , comprising:providing multilayer substrates that include paper, a permanent adhesive layer, a polymer carrier, a pressure sensitive adhesive, a release liner and images of multiple cards;providing column gutters on said multilayer substrates;providing row gutters on said multilayer substrates;providing a cutter with articulating blades for placing cuts into said multilayer substrates through a top surface of said substrates within said row gutters;providing a stationary cutter for cutting through a bottom surface of said substrates within said column gutters to create multiple cards; andproviding pre-die-cut slits in portions of said paper, polymer carrier and release liner of said multilayer substrates within said column gutters in order to ensure that cuts from said stationary cutter completely separate said column gutters.2. The method of claim 1 , wherein said pre-die-cut slits within said column gutters of said multilayer substrates extend from a portion of said polymer carrier into a portion of said paper of said multilayer substrates.3. The method of claim 2 , wherein said pre-die-cut slits compensate for cutting difficulties created at said bottom surface of said multilayer substrates where flexible unsupported polymer carrier and release liner portions in said multilayer substrates are produced by gutter cutting said multilayer substrates first in a widthwise direction with said articulating blades and subsequently in a lengthwise direction with said stationary cutter.4. A method of manufacturing an extended content booklet label. Sheets are parallel folded to form a spine of a multi-up book log. The book log is overlaminated with an overlaminate to a major web having a longitudinal direction so that the spine is oriented perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the web. The major web is continuously moved passed three or more longitudinally aligned cutting elements. Each cutting element cuts deeper than the previous cutting element for progressively slitting the major label web and overlaminated multi-up book log in the longitudinal direction only to form two or more minor webs. 1. Methods of preparing extended content labels from prefabricated adhesive assemblies are described. The methods do not require delamination or relamination of the prefabricated adhesive assemblies. The prefabricated adhesive assemblies include a transparent face layer and an adhesive layer sensitive to radiant energy. Extended content printing is applied to a front face of the face layer. A mask is positioned between the adhesive layer and a radiant energy source. Radiant energy not blocked by the mask reduces the adhesion of irradiated portions of the adhesive layer. A floodcoat is applied over the extended content indicia, and front side indicia is applied over the floodcoat and is visible through the face layer and adhesive layer from a back side of the face layer. 1. A method of producing an extended content adhesive assembly having at least one region of reduced adhesion , the method comprising:providing a laminated adhesive assembly comprising a face layer defining a front side and an oppositely directed back side, a release liner, and an adhesive layer disposed between the back side of the face layer and the release liner;applying indicia to the front side of the face layer;applying a mask to cover a portion of the adhesive layer; andirradiating the adhesive assembly with radiant energy,wherein the mask substantially blocks a portion of the adhesive layer from exposure to the radiant energy,wherein the radiant energy not blocked by the mask irradiates a region of the adhesive layer to thereby reduce the adhesion of the irradiated region of the adhesive layer,wherein the indicia is visible from the back side of the face layer and through the adhesive layer, thereby defining extended content.2.
