Holographic document and method for forming

Номер: US5464690A
Автор: David R. Boswell

A holographic article and method for forming permits the party producing the final document to print the holographic image directly on the final document thereby permitting such party to retain and maintain control of its own embossing shim on which the hologram has been formed and which is utilized for embossing the holographic image on the document. A film upon which a holographic image can be directly stamped upon the final document includes a layer of metal having a thickness in the range of 20 millimicrons to 100 millimicrons, a lacquer coating having a thickness in the range of 0.5 microns to 3 microns and a heat activatible adhesive. The metal layer lacquer coating and heat activatible adhesive are caused to be adhered to the substrate forming the final document during a stamping operation which releases said metal layer, lacquer coating and heat activatible adhesive from a plastic carrier film to which had initially been applied.

Foil composite card

Номер: US9542635B2
Автор: John Herslow
Принадлежит: COMPOSECURE LLC

Composite cards formed in accordance with the invention include a security layer comprising a hologram or diffraction grating formed at, or in, the center, or core layer, of the card. The hologram may be formed by embossing a designated area of the core layer with a diffraction pattern and depositing a thin layer of metal on the embossed layer. Additional layers may be selectively and symmetrically attached to the top and bottom surfaces of the core layer. A laser may be used to remove selected portions of the metal formed on the embossed layer, at selected stages of forming the card, to impart a selected pattern or information to the holographic region. The cards may be “lasered” when the cards being processed are attached to, and part of, a large sheet of material, whereby the “lasering” of all the cards on the sheet can be done at the same time and relatively inexpensively. Alternatively, each card may be individually “lasered” to produce desired alpha numeric information, bar codes information or a graphic image, after the sheets are die-cut into cards.

Document laminator using unfinished plastics films - eliminating use of gummed films, with reduced prodn. cost

Номер: FR2306815A1
Автор: [UNK]
Принадлежит: Moureau Georges

Document laminator uses unfinished plastics films, i.e. as they come out of the extruder. The two surfaces of the two plastics films which are to be applied to the document to be protected are moistened with a solvent to render them self-adhesive. The plastics films and documents are advanced and compressed by a first train of flexible rollers, then dried with IR radiation, re-pressed, and sealed by a second train of rollers. A system of cutting by electrical resistance or cutting maching allows sepn. of the protected documents from the untreated film. The films do not have to be pre-coated with gum, nor does the machine need to use a temp. close to the m. pt. of the film with a prolonged pressing time. The use of flexible rollers allows for the extra thickness without interfering with the laminating process.

Disclosed is a magnetic recording structure and its forming method. The structure comprises a substrate 1 and a laminated magnetic recording element 2 disposed on at least a part of the outer surface of the substrate and comprising a magnetic layer 3, a colored layer 5 and a non-magnetic metal layer 4 formed by deposition under empty and disposed between the magnetic layer and the colored layer, the magnetic layer being closer to the substrate than the colored layer. It is thus possible to produce a magnetic recording structure whose surface has been coated with a beautiful color without thereby altering its magnetic characteristics.
