(US)

The cellular arrangement is used in sandwich or laminated plates. The external skin is laminated on both sides of the cellular core. External skins can be applied to this core without danger of deformation. Individual cell elements can be joined to build up the required cellular core structure. The cell elements can be made continuously from sheet material. Each cell has a triangular cross-section, with three flat sides (26, 28, 34). A plate (24) which projects as a rib from one apex of the triangle, is continued outwards, parallel to the base. This apex incorporates a step for projecting edge of the adjacent cell, so that adjacent cells can be interlocked.

A first polyurethane composition (polyurethane resin, antibacterial agent and solvent) is coated onto a transfer sheet and baked at a first temperature to at least partially drive off the solvent, leaving pores in the dried first coating. A second coating of the same composition is then applied over the top and baked at a second temperature to produce differently sized pores in the dried second coating. A third coating of a different polyurethane composition is then applied, the composite polyurethane layer adhesively laminated to a backing fabric and the resultant laminate is baked at a third temperature before peeling off the transfer sheet. The first layer and the second layer each include an aggregate having sharp, compound edges, which when mixed in asphaltic cement, create an aggregate interlock within the triaxial geogrid that provides strength to a paved surface. As a result of the triangular aperture geometry of the triaxial geogrid, the geogrid provides an asphalt lateral confinement zone within the composite. The zone allows for the formation of transverse hairline cracks as stresses on the composite necessitate. At elevated temperatures, the asphaltic cement softens and flows into the small transverse cracks, thus enabling the asphalt mats to substantially reseal themselves. 1.
