INK RIBBON BOX This invention relates to an ink ribbon box, and more particularly, to an ink ribbon box to be used in small printers. The ink box has two ink ribbon roll receiving cylinders that extend parallel to each other and which are connected at their outer ends through bridging flanges.

CYLINDRICAL UNIT AND INTERMEDIATE CONNECTOR

IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS AND METHOD, AND TRANSFERRING MEDIUM CASSETTE

In an image forming apparatus using an indirect transferring method, an ink ribbon 4 is selectively heated by a thermal head 1, in a state where an intermediate transfer film 3 and the ink ribbon 4 are put one on the other on a platen roller 2, so that a record-image is formed as a mirror image on an image-forming layer 10 of the intermediate transfer film 3. Then, the intermediate transfer film 3 and a target object 9 are supplied with heat and pressure between a heating roller 5 and a pressure roller 6, so that the record-image is transferred along with the image-forming layer 10 of the intermediate transfer film 3 to the target object 9. The intermediate transfer film 3 and the ink ribbon 4 are respectively accommodated in cassettes 22 and 30 detachably mounted in the apparatus, and are used for forming the record-image while being fed from the cassettes 22 and 30.

An ink ribbon cartridge including a cartridge housing having a first side wall and a second side wall opposed to each other. The cartridge housing has a pair of first engaging portions on an inside surface of the first side wall. A supply spool and a take-up spool are rotatably disposed between the first and second side walls in spaced relation and carry an ink ribbon wound thereon. The spools have first end portions formed with flanges and second end portions opposed to the first end portions. The flanges have second engaging portions engageable with the first engaging portions. A cassette includes: a printing tape roll into which a printing tape as a medium to be printed is wound; a feed spool being rotatable and around which an ink ribbon to be used for printing on the printing tape is wound; and a take-up spool being rotatable to take up the ink ribbon fed from the feed spool. A tape cassette configured to accommodate a tape has a cassette case having first-sixth outer walls, a substrate having first and second surfaces. A storage is provided to the second surface. The third wall is formed with a first recess having a bottom wall, which is formed with a second recess or a hole. The substrate is arranged in the first recess with an adhesive layer being sandwiched between the bottom wall and the second surface. The storage or a molded part protecting the storage is arranged in the second recess or the hole. The first recess is formed with an opening part, at least a part of the adhesive layer being accessible through the opening part, and the cassette case is provided with a blocking member overlapping the one of the storage and the molded part in a first direction at the particular position.

Tape cartridge

A tape cartridge mounted to a tape printer includes a ribbon feeding core on which an ink ribbon is wound so as to be capable of being fed and a ribbon winding core that winds the ink ribbon fed from the ribbon feeding core. In the tape cartridge, the ribbon feeding core includes a core body that winds the ink ribbon and a shaft engaging part formed at an end portion of the core body and engaged with a feeding-side driving shaft of the tape printer. The shaft engaging part protrudes in an axial direction of the core body from an end surface of the core body and is formed in a crown shape in which a plurality of convex portions and a plurality of concave portions are alternately arranged side by side in a circumferential direction.

A tape cassette includes a tape, a transparent cover film, and an ink ribbon. The tape has a thickness in a thickness direction and a width in a width direction. The tape is configured of a plurality of laminated layers including: a transparent base layer; a background layer having a width smaller than the width of the tape in the width direction; and a release layer constituting one surface of the tape in the thickness direction. A ribbon cassette includes a case, an ink ribbon, a first spool, a second spool, a rotating member, a clutch spring, and an engaging part. The ink ribbon has one end portion wound over the first spool and another end portion connected to the second spool. The rotating member is engaged with a first inner surface of the first spool. The clutch spring includes a coil like annular part attached to the rotating member, and an extension part extending from the annular part. The engaging part is positioned on a locus of rotation of the extension part. The first spool has a protrusion provided at a second inner surface of the first spool. The case-hole is in communication with an interior of the first spool, and has a portion overlapped with an entire circular region surrounded by a path of rotation of the tip end of the protrusion.

A media cartridge is disclosed for insertion into a cartridge receptacle of a printer. The media cartridge includes a cartridge, housing having one or more shifting ribs on the cartridge housing. At a position of initial insertion of the media cartridge into the cartridge receptacle, the shifting ribs are configured to center a length of media and an ink ribbon of the media cartridge between a print head and a platen roller in the cartridge receptacle. The present invention embraces a method and apparatus for improving ribbon replacement for thermal printers. The present invention also applies to replacement of other media in associated printers. The improvement is achieved based a ribbon adapter or media adapter that is designed for two conditions: 1) catch condition for printing, and 2) release condition for replacing the media in the printer. By a single click or press of a button, a user can switch between the two conditions. The printing operation occurs during the catch condition. The catch condition ensures that there is no or little relative movement between media core and media adapter. The media adapter can also support different diameter media cores. The release condition is implemented when the user replaces media. The release condition can provide a relatively easy replacement of a media without a significant force or pressure. 1.
