A reduction of diameter within one of the swaged portions is restricted to be less than or equal to about 30% and in certain variations, less than or equal to about 16% to minimize cold work strain hardening and to reduce loss of ductility. In certain aspects, a second swaged portion within the swaged terminal end has a length of less than or equal to about 10 mm. Methods for making such a dual-swaged airbag inflator vessel are likewise provided. Such dual swage designs have improved reliability and performance in high pressure inflator applications, as well as reduced manufacturing costs.

A side airbag for protection for vehicle occupants includes an interior wall separating the airbag into upstream and downstream chambers and defining an opening between two chambers adjacent a lower end of the airbag. An airbag includes a main bag section and a center bag section deployable to protrude towards a vehicle interior out of an inboard side of the main bag section. An inboard-side member, which forms the inboard side of the main bag section, is composed of a front component and a rear component. The center bag section includes a front wall and a rear wall. The front wall is composed of a rear extended region of the front component which is disposed in such a manner as to protrude rearward out of the rear edge of the front component. The rear wall is composed of a front extended region of the rear component which protrudes forward out of the front edge of the rear component and has a generally identical outer contour to the rear extended region. The center bag section is formed by jointing outer edges of the front and rear extended regions. 1. An airbag device for a front passenger seat adapted to be mounted on an instrument panel in front of a front passenger seat of a vehicle , the airbag device comprising a housing adapted to be disposed in the instrument panel and an airbag housed in the housing in a folded-up configuration , the airbag comprising:a main bag section that is deployable in front of the front passenger seat and includes an inboard-side region deployable to face a vehicle interior and an inboard-side member that forms at least the inboard-side region;a front component that forms a front part of the inboard-side region and includes a rear extended region which protrudes rearward out of a region in a vicinity of a rear edge of the front component;a rear component that is provided separate from the front component and forms a rear part of the inboard-side region, the rear component including a front extended region which protrudes forward out of a region in a vicinity of a front edge of the rear component and has a generally identical outer contour to the rear extended region of the front component;a center bag section that is disposed on the inboard-side ...

The present invention provides a gas generator, including in a cylindrical housing, an ignition device chamber provided with an ignition device, a gas inflow chamber having a gas discharge port and a pressurized gas chamber being arranged in the above order from the first end, a rupturable plate closing between the pressurized gas chamber and the gas inflow chamber and being fixed to an annular fixing portion, a breaking device for the rupturable plate being arranged between the ignition device chamber and the gas inflow chamber, the breaking device including a base, a rod main body which extends from the base towards the rupturable plate, and an enlarged-diameter portion at a distal end of the rod main body, and during actuation, the base moving in the axial direction, the enlarged-diameter portion being positioned inside the pressurized gas chamber after punching out the rupturable plate, and the rod main body portion being positioned so as to oppose the annular fixing portion in a radial direction, a pressurized gas passing through a gas passage and then is discharged from the gas discharge port, the gas passage including a first annular passage in which a width between the enlarged-diameter portion and the annular fixing portion varies and a second annular passage between the rod main body portion and the annular fixing portion, a cross-sectional area of the second annular passage being the smallest among the cross-sectional area of the second annular passage, an area of a minimum width portion of the first annular passage and a total opening area of the gas discharge port, and Q<(A 2 −A 1 ) being satisfied when Q denotes the cross-sectional area of the second annular passage, A 1 denotes an area of the punched-out rupturable plate and A 2 denotes the area of the minimum width portion of the first annular passage.

The present invention provides a gas generator including, an ignition device chamber, a gas inflow chamber, and a pressurized gas chamber being arranged from a first end fixed with an ignition device to a second end opposite thereto in a cylindrical housing, an inner circumferential wall surface of the cylindrical housing, from the ignition device chamber to the gas inflow chamber, having a first movement restricting portion, a second movement restricting portion and a stopping portion which are arranged in an axial direction at intervals in the above order so as to protrude, the second movement restricting portion having an ignition device chamber-side surface which is an inclined surface decreasing an inner diameter of the housing from the side of the ignition device chamber to the side of the gas inflow chamber and a gas inflow chamber-side surface whose angle (α1) with respect to the cylindrical housing is not more than 90 degrees, so that an axial cross-sectional shape of the second movement restricting portion is a triangle, a breaking device being arranged between the ignition device chamber and the gas inflow chamber and including a base whose outer circumferential surface abuts against an inner circumferential wall surface of the cylindrical housing and a distal end having an enlarged-diameter portion, and before actuation, the base being held between the first movement restricting portion and the second movement restricting portion, after actuation, the base being held between the surface of the second movement restricting portion whose angle al is not more than 90 degrees and the stopping portion. 1. An initiator assembly for an automotive safety device includes a tubular housing with a first end and a second end. A cruciform formed in the second end of the tubular housing is designed to open when the initiator fires. A pyrotechnic load is disposed within the tubular housing at the second end, the pyrotechnic load is formed to define a void comprising an open end and a tip. The void includes sides that extend from the open end to the tip and angle toward the second end of the tubular housing and angle toward a longitudinal axis of the tubular housing. The sides of the void can transition into a tip portion of the void that comprises a geometry distinct from that of the sides.
