Im Bereich der schienengebundenen Fahrzeuge haben bislang aus dem Bereich der KFZ-Industrie bekannte Fahrassistenzsysteme wie Kollisionswarn- und Vermeidungssysteme wenig Einzug erhalten. Dies ist insbesondere auf eine ungenaue und unzuverlässige Erfassung des Fahrschlauchs, der zur Kollisionserkennung notwendig ist, aufgrund einer fehlenden Möglichkeit der Lenkwinkelerfassung und fehlender optischer Fahrbahnkennzeichnungen bei Schienenfahrzeugen zurückzuführen. Die vorliegende Erfindung offenbart eine Möglichkeit den Fahrschlauch, unter Ausnutzung der Schienenbindung von Schienenfahrzeugen, anhand eines in einer Datenbank gespeicherten digitalen Streckennetzes, sowie den aktuellen Positions- und Bewegungsdaten des Fahrzeugs zuverlässig zu ermitteln. The first network bus has a first electrical configuration and the second network bus has a second electrical configuration that is different than the first electrical configuration. 1. A method comprising:coupling a first network bus connector with (a) a second network bus connector at a front end of a vehicle or (b) a third network bus connector at an opposite back end of the vehicle;detecting an electrical configuration of the second network bus connector or the third network bus connector based on coupling the first network bus connector with the second network bus connector or the third network bus connector; anddetermining an orientation of the vehicle based on the electrical configuration that is detected.2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:controlling operation of one or more of the vehicle or a device onboard the vehicle based on the orientation that is determined.3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:controlling movement of the vehicle based on the orientation that is determined.4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the vehicle is a second vehicle claim 1 , and the first network bus connector is onboard a first vehicle.5. An engine receives and reformats messages from the node agents without reformatting raw data embedded in the messages. The engine directs the reformatted messages including the raw data to user device(s) for use in managing machine activity and/or status. The engine also sends a message from a user device to a node of a given machine, for use in controlling activity and/or status of the given machine.
