Methods and systems are provided for evaluating shopping cart wheels using a sensor module or one or more microphones engaged with the shopping cart. The microphones can be used to detect sounds generated by the wheels of the shopping cart. A sound signature can be determined from the detected sound and compared to sound signatures in a database. If the detected sound indicates that a wheel of the shopping cart is failing, an alert can be generated using an associate alert system. 1. A method , comprising:determining an inventory contained within a media enhanced shopping cart, wherein the inventory is determined automatically without any customer action beyond placing a product in the media enhanced shopping cart;confirming the inventory contained within the media enhanced shopping cart by comparing one or more parameters associated with the inventory to parameters accessible by the media enhanced shopping cart system;generating a customer item based on the inventory; anddisplaying the customer item to a customer on a display of the media enhanced shopping cart.2. When a user enters a mart while carrying a shopping bag unit having an extendible storage space, a process unit of the shopping bag unit transmits, to a plurality of forwarding devices, a trigger signal for requesting product information on products being sold in the mart through a network environment. The forwarding device receiving the trigger signal forwards the trigger signal to a main server to request information (hereinafter product information) on the products being sold. The main server can forward the stored product information to the forwarding devices and then transmit the corresponding product information to the processing unit of the shopping bag unit through the plurality of forwarding devices installed in the mart. When the user inputs barcode parts printed on desired products by using a barcode reader, the processing unit of the shopping bag unit can divide, sum, and store the prices and weights of the desired products by using product information received from the main server and stored in the processing unit, and can display the prices and weights on a display unit installed on the outer wall of the shopping bag unit. At checkout, the smart extendible cart bag can compare a total weight displayed on the display unit with a total measured weight re-measured at a checkout counter and enable the user to promptly make a payment with the total price displayed on the display unit when a comparison result is within an error range, excluding the weight of the shopping bag unit, thereby maximizing convenience.

A media enhanced shopping cart system comprises a shopping cart comprising a frame, a basket, a handle, a base tray, a plurality of wheels, a read component for performing a proximity scan of the shopping cart, a locationing component for determining a location of the shopping cart within a store based on the scan, and a display component for displaying at least one advertisement for a product based on the location of the shopping cart within the store, wherein the locationing component is further operable to determine a location of the product within the store relative to the shopping cart based on the scan, and wherein the display component is further operable to display an indication of the location of the advertised product relative to the location of the shopping cart.

An improved automated shopping system used within stores of the type utilizing shopping carts having product code scanning means and product weight sensing means located thereon in conjunction with a central computer also located within the store wherein the improvement comprises a first scanner releasably mounted on the shopping cart, a control panel mounted upon the shopping cart, means for visual display of word and numerical entries on the control panel, means for the readings of the first scanner to appear on the visual display, means for totalling numerical data that appear on the visual display, a second scanner located on the control panel, means whereby the second scanner's numerical entries are totaled and the total, with the second scanner's other readings appear on the visual display, and a printout device located in said control panel which records and totals the numerical entries and prints them on tape.
