PIVOTABLE WHEEL ASSEMBLY FOR SNOWMOBILE SKI

Номер: US20170066503A1
Автор: Beaudoin Denis
Принадлежит:

The present invention provides a retractable wheel system for snowmobile skis. The retractable wheel system of the present invention may be installed on a snowmobile ski without affecting its structural integrity by installing the system on the reinforced portion of the snowmobile ski. When a user circulates in a path with little or no snow, the retractable wheel system is positioned in the extended configuration by the user and the system will automatically return to the retracted configuration when the user returns in a snowy zone. This is realized by using a pre-tensioned spring that will reposition the wheel in the retracted configuration. The spring transmits a rotational movement to the member on which the wheel is fixed. 1) A pivotable wheel assembly for a snowmobile ski , the pivoting wheel assembly comprising:a) a pivoting member;b) a wheel rotatably mounted to the pivoting member;c) a shaft for pivotably mounting the pivoting member to the snowmobile ski; the pivoting member comprising a first opening for rotatably mounting the wheel and a second opening for receiving the shaft;', 'wherein the wheel assembly in extended configuration has the lower portion of the wheel at a horizontal level lower than the undersurface of the snowmobile ski and the wheel is then in contact with the ground to support the weight of the snowmobile;', 'wherein in a retracted configuration the wheel is free from contact with the ground; and', 'wherein the kingpin limits the rotation of the pivoting member in the extended configuration., 'd) a kingpin securing the snowmobile to the snowmobile ski;'}2) A pivotable wheel assembly as claimed in claim 1 , further comprising a stopper operatively connected to the pivoting member for limiting the rotation of the pivoting member when in the retracted configuration.3) A pivotable wheel assembly as claimed in claim 2 , wherein the pivoting member has a width at least twice the size of its thickness.4) A pivotable wheel assembly as claimed ...

The invention is related to the class of small-scale tracked transportation vehicles, which can be used for towing a person and cargo using a sledge, for example. The motorized towing vehicle comprises a frame supporting a caterpillar drive, a platform supporting an engine with a transmission, a luggage space, an assembly for connecting to the object being towed object, a control device, and an object being towed. The caterpillar drive includes a caterpillar track, a metal subframe, a driven shaft and a driving shaft with pinions, and torsion-type wheel bogie. The control device consists of a steering wheel with handles and controls. The object being towed comprises a driver's workplace. The frame consists of a platform and a rigid framework enclosing the platform along the entire perimeter, including the luggage compartment with an additional luggage space above. The design of the frame and platform is asymmetrical relative to the track because of an extension of the platform in one direction. The subframe is in the form of metal side plates connected to the frame with brackets bent into an S-shape. The subframe plates accommodate a track tightening mechanism in the form of an eccentric and self-aligning bearings. An all-weather hood is used for protecting the engine and luggage space. The road performance of the motor towing vehicle has been improved.

Snow bike having a center of mass substantially aligned with the center of mass of a rider for enhanced stability

Номер: US20190118904A1
Автор: Barnabas LeBlanc
Принадлежит: Individual

A snow bike includes a lightweight engine and transmission to power an endless drive belt (track) around a suspension under the rear of the frame. A unique aspect of the snow bike is that the front/rear weight distribution places less load on the ski and more load on the track, thereby providing lighter steering forces and increased track traction. The snow bike is steered by a fork mounted to a tubular/sheet frame that pivots around an axis and is connected to a ski. The drivetrain directly links the transmission to the track drive wheel, thereby powering the endless track. The centerline of the transmission drive shaft falls to the aft of the drive wheel of the track. This, combined with how the forward track suspension is attached, allows the mass of the track assembly to be more centralized, positioning the center of gravity of the bike nearer to the rider.
