Disclosed herein are child-resistant containers. Also disclosed are methods using the modular containers and methods of storing substances in containers. The containers have a glass base and a plastic cap and provide for child-resistant containers. A user can releasably remove the cap from base with a squeeze and lift sequence on the sides of the cap. For example, the user squeezes opposite sides of the container cap, which releases a locking mechanism and allows for removal of the cap by lifting or pulling the container cap off from the container base. A tear strip is formed with the skirt of the closure via a tear line that circumscribes the skirt. A breakaway pull tab having an inner surface with U-shaped ribs, the combination of the surface and ribs being such as to provide a concavity which assists in gripping the tab to pull the strip away. Linear vertical ribs may be provided on the outer surface to provide further assistance in the gripping function. CLOSURE ASSEMBLY WITH SEPARABLE SEAL

CONTAINER LID

A container lid is characterized by a tamper-evi-dencing tear-strip member having a tab that protrudes from a plane formed by adjacent portions of the lid. The tab preferably includes gripping rib members on opposing surfaces of the tab and is surrounded by a sufficient gap to permit the tab to be readily grasped for easier removal of the tear-strip member from the lid, prior to initial removal of the lid from the container. In container and lid embodiments that are substantially rectangular, the lid also preferably includes mating engagement structure between the lid and the container which is interrupted or not present at the corners of the lid. The tear-strip in this rectangular embodiment also preferably includes a widened portion at the corners, whereby the removal of the rear-strip results in a "scalloping" of the corners. These features on rectangular embodiments facilitate easier attachment and removal of the lid to and from the container, after the removal of the tear-strip.

METAL CONTAINER HAVING RESILIENT INTERFACE RING

A metal container which includes two drawn container halves joined by an injection molded plastic ring. The container halves can be identical and of low profile, with upstanding walls terminating in formed edges of substantially the same size and shape. The ring includes a pair of opposed channels sharing a common base, and the formed edges of the respective container halves fit into the opposed channels of the ring. The channels and formed edges are adapted to provide tailored fitting and retention characteristics, so that one of the container half is gripped more securely by the ring, and the other container half is more readily removable.

BARREL WITH LID

This invention relates to a cylindrical, blow-molded lidded barrel (wide-mouthed drum) with a barrel lid and tension-ring closure. Previously known lidded barrels have comparatively little ability to withstand falls and are therefore not well-suited for handling liquids. Owing to the special configuration of the barrel lid and the barrel mouth edges as well as by a special matching of the individual components to one another, the lidded barrel according to the invention can be manipulated in the filled state with the same barrel-gripping tool (parrot's beak), as is universally employed and in industrial use for modern plastic L-ring bung barrels or normal steel bung barrels. By improving the strength of the lidded barrel when it is dropped, the barrel is also made especially well-suited for handling liquids since it remains liquidtight even when dumped or dropped from great heights.

BARREL WITH LID

The present invention concerns a cylindrical blow-moulded barrel (10) (wide mouthed drum) with a barrel lid (12) and a clamping ring closure (14). Barrels with lids as known hitherto have a relatively low ability to withstand falls and are therefore not very suitable for holding liquids. The particular design of the barrel lid (12) and of the edge (28) of the barrel mouth and the way in which individual components are made to fit one another facilitate handling of the proposed barrel (10) when filled using the standard barrel-gripping tool (parrot's bill) used throughout industry for modern plastic L-ring plugged barrels or standard steel plugged barrels. The invention concerns a closure for a cylindrical can (10). The closure includes a flexible member (11) of the easy-open type secured across the open end of the can (10). A rigid, screw cap (22) is screwed over the thus sealed end of the can. An annular, resilient member (24) depending downwardly from the underside of the end wall of the c ap (22), engages the membrane (11) in the vicinity of the end flange (18) of the can body (10), thereby strengthening the seal between the membrane (11) and the flange (18). A closure for a container having a circular opening defining an axis, the closure being securable to the container so as to close said opening, the closure having an o-ring sealing member mounted thereon so as to provide a seal with a sealing surface of the container, when the closure is secured to the container, the sealing surface extending around an upper surface or an internal surface of the container. The closure may comprise a bore feature which, in use, extends through the opening into the interior of the container and the o-ring seal may be provided on the bore feature. The container also has a shoulder with an undercut around a perimeter of the container. The lid has a central portion, an exterior border, and a plurality of receivers having openings and a tab. Each of the tabs have first and second pivot members that are pivotally retained in the openings in the receivers to allow the tabs to be pivoted between an open position and a locked position. The tabs have a flange with a protrusion that engages the undercut to secure the lid to the container in the locked position. A sealable container system contains a body and a lid assembly. The body includes an internal volume defined by bottom and side wall(s), bump(s) on the inside surface of the side wall and projecting toward the internal volume, and a lid with outer and inner walls at its bottom side with a channel in-between. A gasket couples to the lid with a wall portion residing within the channel and a lip outside the channel. When the lid assembly is pressed into the body, the lip of the gasket engages the bumps and deforms, and a gap forms between the lip and the side wall, where air in the internal volume exits through the gap. Ventilated lid for insulated container

A lid for an insulated container comprises a flexible gasket configured to facilitate a seal between the lid and an inner wall of the insulated container, and further configured to expand into an interior compartment of the insulated container responsive to a vacuum developing in the interior compartment. A diaphragm chamber is situated opposite the flexible gasket from the interior compartment when the lid is fully engaged with the insulated container. One or more air channels couple the diaphragm chamber to an exterior of the lid. The development of a vacuum in the interior compartment of the insulated container draws a force on the flexible gasket, thereby reducing pressure in the diaphragm chamber. The negative pressure in diaphragm chamber is back-filled with external air, which enters the lid via the air channels. The lid may then be removed without excessive vacuum forces.

The closure is adapted to be removed by applying a rotational and lifting force against the outer leg portion causing the protrusion to deform the weaker metal portion by defining a thread-like groove therein due to the rotational and lifting action enabling easy removal of the closure.

In another, modified form of the invention, the container rim is provided with an additional, inwardly projecting lip which cooperates with a sealing ring on the lid in a manner which enhances the seal. This latter configuration additionally provides enhanced hoop strength for the container itself as well as for the combined container and lid.
