The control unit controls a driving amount of the driving unit per unit conveyance distance as the conveying unit conveys the continuous sheet. The driving amount is larger in a case where a first tension is applied by the tension applying unit compared to a case in which a second tension, that is larger than the first tension, is applied.

An apparatus is disclosed for reducing feed rate variations when unwinding a web material. The apparatus includes a rotational position and speed determining device for determining the rotational position and speed of the parent roll, a drive system for imparting rotational movement to the parent roll, a device for measuring the radius of the parent roll, and a logic device. The logic device generates an ideal speed reference signal and utilizes calculated and measured data to establish a corrected speed reference signal to make adjustments in the driving speed based upon the corrected speed reference signal to maintain a relatively constant feed rate. By dividing the parent roll into 1, 2, . . . n sectors, the data can be refined to a relatively high degree taking into account high speed data processing capabilities as well as operating system response times to make appropriate driving speed adjustments.

The present invention enables the achievement of a laminate of heat-resistant polymer films, which does not use a bonding material having inferior heat resistance. A medium transport device is provided. The medium transport device includes a transporting portion that transports a medium in a transport direction, a winding portion that winds the medium, and a friction member that suppresses displacement of the medium in a cross direction with the transport direction. The displacement in the cross direction is suppressed by causing the friction member to contact the medium. A contact state of the medium with the friction member is changed in accordance with a winding mode in which the medium transported by the transporting portion is wound around the winding portion, and a non-winding mode in which the medium transported by the transporting portion is not wound around the winding portion.

An automatic traction control system expands and deploys compact tightly wound precut paper with die cut slits. The system has an axle with a smaller diameter than the diameter of a tube over which a precut paper package is wound, providing friction free rotation. The precut paper roll rests against a spongy device at one end. The other end rubs against an adjustable cylinder assembly, providing friction that prevents paper spill and misalignment. The axle of the paper handling mechanism is set at an angle to the grab direction of an edge of the precut paper, expanding the grabbed edge and the ungrabbed edge. Grabbing is effected by a belt and two rollers applying precise controlled vertical loading obtained by a slidable and rotatable plate having the weight of a motor, gearbox and pulleys.
