A system , comprising:a first assembly that transitions a paddle between a load position, wherein the paddle limits a size of a media stack and is spaced a first distance away from a media tray and a retracted position, wherein the paddle is spaced a second distance away from the media tray, the second distance being greater than the first distance, and wherein the paddle compresses the media stack during the transition between the load position and the retracted position to remove space between sheets of media in the media stack; anda second assembly coupled to the first assembly, the second assembly actuates a pick mechanism to move media in the media stack through a media path.2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the first assembly moves the pick mechanism to a compression position during the transition between the load position and the retracted position claim 1 , wherein the paddle applies a lateral force on a surface of a given sheet of media in the media stack to remove the space between the sheets of the media stack.3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the second assembly actuates the pick mechanism during a transition of the paddle from the load position to the retracted position.4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the first assembly moves the paddle in response to rotation of a feedshaft.5. The system of claim 1 , further comprising:a printing module coupled to the first assembly and the second assembly, wherein the printing module outputs print data on the media in the media stack.6. This sheet feeder prevents the transfer device of an image forming apparatus from being smeared due to the fact that the small sized sheet is fed from only one stack.

The insert pusher moves along a noose-shaped path in a vertical plane. The path has a horizontal, forwardly-directed portion along which the pusher moves to engage and push inserts into evelopes. The path has a retracting portion that curves downwardly and backwardly out of the way of envelopes and inserts being provided to the inserting location. In operation, an envelope is delivered to the inserting location and has its bottom surface held by vacuum applied thereto. The top side of the envelope is lifted by suction cups so that the envelope is opened to receive inserts. Inserts that are conveyed toward the inserting location are engaged at their trailing edges by the insert pusher and are pushed into the opened envelope.

A sheet conveying apparatus for conveying a sheet using a sheet conveying unit arranged along a sheet conveying path has a skew detecting unit for detecting skew of the sheet conveyed along the sheet conveying path with respect to a sheet conveying direction, a skew correcting unit that moves in a direction for correcting the skew of the skewed sheet with the sheet nipped therein on the basis of a detection signal from the skew detecting unit, and a guide unit for supporting the skew correcting unit and guiding the sheet to the skew correcting unit, in which, when the skew correcting unit moves for correcting the skew of the sheet, the guide unit is moved together with the skew correcting unit to prevent a load from being applied to a trailing edge of the sheet.

A feed mechanism feeds sheet material sequentially on demand to a take-up mechanism of processing machinery. The feed mechanism has a feed table with a gate. Sheets may be stacked against the gate, which allows only the lowermost sheet to pass therebeneath. Rollers within the surface of the table are rotatably driven to advance the lowermost sheet beneath the gate to the take-up mechanism. A restraining device prevents freewheeling over run of the rollers. The sheets may be longer in length than the circumference of a tool-carrying roll set used to process the sheet. The difference is accommodated by transferring sheet feed through the nip between the tool set and a separate servo-controlled drive upstream of the nip.

And a recording medium pedestal for dropping the recording medium on which the printing is completed to the output tray when the discharge roller is rotated in a direction opposite to the discharge direction. According to this, since the recording medium support is used in conjunction with the discharge roller without a separate driving source, there is an advantage of reducing the manufacturing cost and improving the print quality.

A methodology for generating a motion profile for an axis of a motor in a mailing apparatus, the linear or angular motion of the motor axis imparting a motion to a sheet or envelope being conveyed by the mailing apparatus. The methodology includes four processes for generating a segment of a motion profile, depending on whether, for the segment, absolute positional synchronism (of the motor axis to be controlled relative to another motor axis) is needed, or whether a so-called quick step is needed, i.e. a change in velocity corresponding to acceleration that varies during the step. The processes include: forward integration, given the jerk (acceleration per unit time) and starting acceleration as well as initial values of position and velocity; non-parabolic displacement mapping (sometimes called electronic gearing) relating the motion of the axis to be controlled to the motion of another axis where the function expressing the mapping is not parabolic in the commanded or actual position of the other axis; integration based on a velocity equation that is parabolic in time; and a parabolic displacement mapping, i.e. a displacement mapping using a function that is parabolic in the actual or commanded position of a reference axis.

WEB HANDLING APPARATUS ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An apparatus is provided for handling a web of material fed from a roll. When the roll is larger than a selected amount, a roll contacting belt contacts the outer surface of the roll to aid in rotating the roll. The roll contacting belt is speed-responsive to a tension sensing means. Once the roll decreases to the selected amount, the roll contacting belt is disengaged from the roll and a positive drive controls the speed of the roll. This arrangement reduces web upsets caused by out of round new large rolls and eliminates telescoping due to the action of the belt against small diameter rolls. In the illustrative form of the invention, the apparatus provides a continuous supply of web material by handling a first roll from which web material is being fed through an infeed roller and a nip roller, and a second roll from which web material is fed after the web material of the first roll has expired. The speed of the first roll is controlled by the positive drive and when the web from the first roll has almost expired, the roll contacting belt contacts the outer surface of the second roll to aid in its rotation. A web tension sensing means controls the speed of the infeed roller, which speed is transmitted to the roll contacting belt so that the speed of the web at the infeed roller and the speed of the roll contacting belt are matched. The web from the first roll is adhesively connected to the web from the second roll and then severed, while both webs are at the same speed.

A document feeder system for use in a document sorting apparatus is disclosed. The document feeder system comprises upper and lower portions disposed on opposite sides of a document path, the upper and lower portions being movable relative to one another between a feeding position and a jam clearance position. The feeder system further comprises a sensor system for detecting the passage of documents along the document path, the sensor system having an emitter being adapted to emit visible light which impinges on a first region of the document path including the receiver when the upper and lower portions of the feeder system are in the feeding position and no document is present in the first region, and which impinges on a second region of the document path when the upper and lower portions of the feeder system are in the jam clearance position. The sensor system further comprises a controller connected to the emitter and receiver and adapted to adjust the intensity of light emitted by the emitter in accordance with the intensity of light received by the receiver such that when the upper and lower portions of the feeder system are in the jam clearance position the second region of the document path is illuminated by the light emitted from the emitter.
