A method and device are provided for creating a product flow according to a predefined sequence. Products are fed from different feed flows of a grouping path and, according to the sequence, are deposited onto a conveyor with a closed revolving path. A repair function is realised in which the products are transferred from the conveyor to a further-processing station only if the sequence is correct and all products are present with the desired quantity. Otherwise, the products are led by the continuously operated conveyors back to the grouping path. Here, the error is corrected by way of the deposition of the missing product, whilst the deposition of new products is interrupted. For error correction, one may previously provide a discharge of a defect or wrong product. A microcomputer learns hopper insertion points, jam switch insertion points, and hopper miss and double feed service angles relative to a reject gate. Based on the learn collator configuration, the controller controls collator operation. When a hopper phase adjustment is made by an operator, the controller automatically re-learns the hopper service angles during a ripple start of the collator and adjusts its reject data in response thereto. Die Massnahme wird wenigstens teilweise aufgehoben, wenn der Fehler nicht mehr auftritt. Andernfalls wird die Maschine vollständig gestoppt, wenn der Fehler nach Ablauf eines bestimmten Kriteriums, beispielsweise einer bestimmten Zeitdauer, weiterhin von den Detektionsmitteln (8, 9) festgestellt wird. Beim erfindungsgemässen Verfahren wird der Maschine (1) Gelegenheit gegeben, den Fehler auf Grund eines Selbstreparatureffektes zu beheben, so dass kein Alarm ausgelöst und die Maschine nicht vollständig abgestellt werden muss.

Systems and methods for detecting the presence of metallic objects in media to be conveyed in a medium transport system are disclosed. One or more induction sensors are included in the medium transport system to detect the presence of metal in the transported media, with detection signals sent from the sensors to a system processing unit. An ultrasonic detector is employed in some embodiments to output another detection signal. One or more microphones may also be included, for detecting the sound created as the medium is being transported. The system processing unit analyzes various detection signals and analyzes computed sound values from the microphones, to determine the presence and location of metal in the media. A position jam detector may assist in determining jams of the media along the medium transport path.

The present invention provides methods of producing packaging for use in consumer goods packaging.
