Herkömmliche Satteldecken bestehen aus einem Stück. Sie werden auf dem Rücken eines Tragtieres so aufgelegt, dass sie den darüber liegenden Sattel vor dem Schweiß des Tragtieres schützen. Bei manchen Sattelmodellen (z.B. Westernsättel) sorgen sie auch dafür, dass die Adaption zwischen Sattel und Pferderücken optimiert wird. Hierzu wird die Satteldecke am Widerrist des Tragtieres aufgekammert. Das bedeutet, dass die Decke über der Wirbelsäule des Tragtieres so mit einer Falte versehen wird, dass sich genügend Platz findet damit sich diese nach oben wölben kann.Nachdem es ein Problem ist die Satteldecke daran zu hindern auf beiden Seiten des Tragtierrückens Richtung Boden abzurutschen verliert sich die aufgekammerte Falte entlang der Wirbelsäule. In der Folge wird das Tragtier mehr oder weniger daran gehindert den Rücken in den in jedem Sattel vorgesehenen Wirbelkanal zu wölben. Das Führungselement (4) zeigt dabei mit seiner Längsausdehnung in Richtung des die Öse (3) aufweisenden Endes des Bügelschenkels (1).

A shock reducing buckle or strap assembly for girths and cinches includes an elastic portion in parallel with an inelastic portion. In a non-stretched, neutral position, the elastic portion is shorter than the inelastic portion by a predetermined amount. Upon stretching the assembly by the predetermined amount, the inelastic portion comes in to play and prevents further stretching.
