The metal plate (1) is pivoted to the lower end of the inverted U-shaped upper part (2) so that it can swing about an axis which is forward of the centre of gravity of the plate. In the event of the rider's foot slipping out of the stirrup the rear end of the metal plate swings downwards so that the plate slopes downwards in the rearward direction. The box has one wall shaped to correspond with the underside of the saddle 3 so that when the box is carried the sides of the inverted U-shape 11 fit either side of the carrier's leg. Vents 8 may be fitted to allow air to circulate around the underside of the saddle 3 and saddle flaps 4. The saddle box provides protection for a horse's saddle 3 and when the saddle box lid 1 and saddle box base 2 fit together there is a small rebate between them to prevent moisture entering. The lid 1 may be hinged to the base 2 or may be detachable from it.

A riding stirrup includes a foot-receiving part 1 and a plate-like part 2 which is suspended from a strap 14. The part 1 is pivotally received on a tongue 7 held by a flange 8 and a retaining plate 9 which is secured to the plate 2 by snap fasteners 11. Normal downward forces on the stirrup do not dislodge the plate 9, but if the rider falls from the saddle the part 1 pivots in direction A levering the fasteners 11 apart. The retaining plate 9 is thus freed allowing the foot-retaining part 1 to separate from the suspension part 2.

A one piece hoof sock bandage for use with horses, livestock, and other hoofed animals includes an elastic, water resistant sock material having a sole portion coated with a resilient, puncture resistant material. A force or pressure sensing device comprises one or more magnets resiliently held spaced from one or more magnetic sensors such that pressure on the device displaces the magnets relative to the magnetic field sensors. The device may be incorporated into an insole of a shoe, or integrated into a shoe, or integrated into a seat, cushion, mattress or saddle. The device includes one or more magnetic focussing elements on the opposite side of the magnetic field sensor from the magnets to focus and condition the magnetic field passing through the sensor. The magnetic focussing elements may be permanent magnets or magnetic materials having a high magnetic permeability such as mu-metals. Additional magnetic focussing elements may be placed adjacent to the magnets. A shock reducing buckle or strap assembly for girths and cinches includes an elastic portion in parallel with an inelastic portion. In a non-stretched, neutral position, the elastic portion is shorter than the inelastic portion by a predetermined amount. The assembly may be stretched up to the predetermined amount by overcoming the force of the elastic portion. Upon stretching the assembly by the predetermined amount, the inelastic portion comes in to play and prevents further stretching. An orthotic stirrup interface between a horse and a rider is disclosed. Aspects of the invention include an improved stirrup, an orthotic riding boot, and an indexed interface between the stirrup and orthotic riding boot. Embodiments of the present invention provide for a positive indexed engagement between the foot of a rider and the stirrups. The positive indexed engagement provides greater stability and control of the rider with the horse, improves safety of the rider and horse. An orthotic profile to the stirrup reduces pain and discomfort in the rider's feet. A foldable stirrup for mounting animals such as horses has a support arm for engagement with a stirrup leather and a base pivotally coupled to the support arm for supporting a rider's foot while mounting when the stirrup is in an open configuration. The base and the support arm are inwardly foldable together to a folded configuration. A mounting assist strap configured to engage the stirrup and provide a point of securement on the animal to be mounted is provided. An equestrian saddle includes a tree made of a substantially rigid material and defining a substantially vertical longitudinal center plane, a seating surface for the user, which is associated to the tree, and a pair of flaps arranged on opposite sides from the vertical plane and connected to the tree in a connection area proximate to the seating surface. Each flap includes at least one edge element having an outer surface with a relatively high friction coefficient for providing a grip on the user's leg. A line of cloth coverings is disclosed that are produced from a flexible, elastic fabric such as nylon or lycra. The boot coverings fit like a sock, just covering the boot and not putting any pressure on the horse's skin. Portable Saddle Stand Apparatus

A portable saddle stand apparatus that can be secured to an existing structure allows a saddle to be securely placed upon the saddle stand apparatus when the respective saddle is not fastened to an animals back by a girth. The saddle stand apparatus includes a saddle supporting structure, a front mount, a rear mount, a front strap fastener, and a rear strap fastener. The front mount attaches with a front mount receiving bracket of the saddle supporting structure, and the rear mount attaches with a rear mount receiving bracket of the saddle supporting structure. The front strap fastener secures the front mount to the saddle supporting structure while securing a front end of the saddle stand apparatus to the existing structure. Saddle

The improved saddle structure of the invention comprises first and second opposed side panels, a plurality of resilient transverse arched rib members connecting the first and second opposed side panels, and a spine member extending longitudinally between the first and second side panels. The spine member is connected to each rib member at a central crown portion of the rib member. The spine member can comprise one or more elongate members or a plurality of connecting members joining the rib members at their crown portions, and the spine member is of sufficient flexibility to flex with the flexure of the spine of an animal on which the saddle structure is fitted. A saddle seat is secured to the spine member and/or rib members. The saddle structure of the invention provides a saddle structure for use on the back of an animal whereby localised load pressure points are reduced while allowing flexure of the animal's spine, and whereby load is distributed more evenly along the length of the saddle structure.

Controller configured for receiving force data from the sensor pad, includes a microprocessor continuously polling each sensor in the sensor pad for force data, calibrating each measurement based on an initial value, aggregating measurements from sensors on a left side and a right side of the sensor pad over a predetermined time interval, and calculating the differences between measurements on the right side and left side of the sensor pad.
