The purpose of the present invention is to provide a composite semipermeable membrane whose water permeability is hard to decline even when exposed to high temperature environment for a long period of time, a spiral wound separation membrane element using the composite semipermeable membrane, and a method for producing the same. Another purpose of the invention is to provide a method for evaluating water permeation performance of a composite semipermeable membrane, which method evaluates whether the water permeability of a composite semipermeable membrane is likely to decline due to heat, by a simple evaluation method. The composite semipermeable membrane having a skin layer that includes a polyamide resin, the skin layer being placed on a porous support and having an elastic modulus of 100 MPa or more, calculated by AFM force curve measurement in water.

The present application is directed to methods for solvent-free preparation of polymers and their subsequent processing into activated carbon materials. These methods unexpectedly demonstrate ability to tune pore structure in the polymer gel and carbon produced there from, while also providing distinct advantages over the current art. 1. Polyhexahydrotriazine (PHT) and polyhemiaminal (PHA) materials form highly cross-linked polymers which can be used as binder resins in composite materials. A filler element functionalized with a primary amine group can be covalently bonded to the PHA/PHT polymer resins. Example filler elements include, without limitation, carbon nanotubes, silica materials, carbon and glass fibers, and nanoparticles. Filler materials are incorporated into polymeric materials to improve the mechanical strength or other characteristics of the polymeric material for various applications. Typical composite materials use thermosetting materials that, once set, are intractable. PHT and PHA materials can be reverted to starting materials by exposure to acids. Thus, composite components formed using these materials are recyclable.

Polyhexahydrotriazine (PHT) and polyhemiaminal (PHA) materials form highly cross-linked polymers which can be used as binder resins in composite materials. A filler element functionalized with a primary amine group can be covalently bonded to the PHA/PHT polymer resins. Example filler elements include, without limitation, carbon nanotubes, silica materials, carbon and glass fibers, and nanoparticles. Filler materials are incorporated into polymeric materials to improve the mechanical strength or other characteristics of the polymeric material for various applications. Typical composite materials use thermosetting materials that, once set, are intractable. PHT and PHA materials can be reverted to starting materials by exposure to acids. Thus, composite components formed using these materials are recyclable.

A number of cationic antimicrobial polymers have been synthesized by a condensation polymerization in bulk. The initial polymer formed has backbone tertiary nitrogens, which are subsequently quaternized using a suitable quaternizing agent (e.g., alkyl halide). The cationic polymers include polyamides, polycarbonates, polypolyureas and polyguanidiniums having a cationic repeat unit comprising the quaternary ammonium nitrogen as a backbone nitrogen. The cationic polymers can be active against Gram-negative, Gram-positive microbes, and/or fungi. 2. Sulfur scavenging materials for filters and coatings

Materials which react with (“scavenge”) sulfur compounds, such as hydrogen sulfide and mercaptans, are used to limit sulfur-induced corrosion. Filters and protective coatings including these materials, described broadly as polyhexahydrotriazines (PHT) and polyhemiaminals (PHA), are disclosed. Methods of using these materials to prevent corrosion are described. PHT and PHA materials have excellent thermal and mechanical properties for many applications as coatings and filtration media. Specifically, PHT and PHA materials react with sulfur compounds in such a manner as to incorporate sulfur atoms into the polymeric matrix, thus sequestering the sulfur atoms and allowing removal from fluids such as crude oil, natural gas, hydrocarbon combustion exhaust gases, sulfur polluted air and water. A coating PHT or PHA material on a component to be protected similarly reacts with sulfur compounds prior to sulfur being able to penetrate to the component.
