The pair formed of epoxide resin with an amine-comprising curing agent advantageously replaces the pair formed of phenol/formaldehyde resin, which is a methylene acceptor, with the curing agent(s) HMT or H3M, which are conventional methylene donors. The use of this pair of reactants, epoxide resin and amine-comprising curing agent, makes it possible to obtain rubber compositions exhibiting a greater low-strain stiffness in comparison with conventional rubber compositions, without significantly damaging the hysteresis. Moreover, the combination of a phenolic resin, which is a methylene acceptor, with HMT or H3M, which is a methylene donor, produces formaldehyde during the vulcanization of the rubber composition. In point of fact, it is desirable to reduce, indeed even in the long run to eliminate, the formaldehyde of rubber compositions due to the environmental impact of this compound.

An adhesive based on a polychloroprene dispersion is characterized in that a buffer system comprising at least one acid compound and glycerin is included in order to activate and stabilize the adhesive. A freeze-thaw stability of the adhesive is achieved by surprisingly high proportions of glycerin; however, a good initial adhesion is simultaneously ensured. The glycerin proportions range from 8-50 wt. %, preferably 14-40 wt. %, particularly preferably 22-30 wt. %. An organic acid is preferably used as the acid compound. 1. An adhesive based on a polychloroprene dispersion with a buffer system , including at least one acid compound and glycerol , for the activation and stabilization of the adhesive , wherein glycerol is present , based on the total weight of the adhesive , as a proportion of 8-50% by weight.2. Compositions for binding organic or inorganic fibers is described. The compositions may include an aqueous solution having a pH of about 4.5 or more. The aqueous solution may include a polycarboxy polymer that is about 10%, by wt., to 100%, by wt., of a butenedioic acid or butenedioic anhydride; and a polyol. The compositions can maintain a pH of about 5 or more after being cured into a thermoset plastic with the fibers. Processes for preparing a binder composition for organic or inorganic fibers are also described.
