Polymers of 2-chloro-1.3-butadiene are plasticized with polybutadiene (see Group V). The polybutadiene may be prepared by heating butadiene under pressure at 122 DEG F. with sodium oleate, potassium persulphate, dodecyl mercaptan and water till 80 per cent conversion has occurred. Phenyl b -naphthylamine is then added to the emulsion and unpolymerized butadiene removed by vacuum distillation. The latex may be coagulated with aluminium sulphate.ALSO:Polychloroprene is plasticized with polybutadiene, which may be prepared according to the method described in Group IV, to give a composition which is resistant to hardening at low temperatures. In many examples giving preferred compositions, these two substances are mixed with varying proportions of substances chosen from sulphur, zinc oxide, stearic acid, carbon black, particularly soft black P.33, dibenzothiazyl disulphide, light calcined magnesia, candelilla wax, phenyl b -naphthylamine, and piperidinium pentamethylene dithiocarbamate.

The compositions may be used as the cushion stock for a conveyer belt or to impregnate the fabric cover.

A composition comprises a maleic-anhydride modified olefinic elastomer, polychloroprene and a rosin acid. Specified elastomers are natural rubber, butadiene - acrylonitrile, butadiene - styrene and butadiene-methyl methacrylate copolymers. The composition comprises (a) 100 parts by weight of a curable polychloroprene in a liquid state at room temperature, (b) about 200 to about 700 parts by weight of a hydrated metallic oxide, and (c) about 20 to about 100 parts by weight of a heat-resistant fibrous material. The components (b) and (c) are contained in a combined amount of at least about 250 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of the component (a). An algae-elastomer composite including an elastomer matrix; algae; and a mixing additive sufficient to achieve a desired property. The algae can be present in a milled condition having a particle size value of between about 10 and 120 microns. A method of preparing the algae-based elastomer composite is provided that includes the steps of: premixing an elastomer matrix; adding an algae filler; adding a mixing additive that includes a plasticizer; forming an elastomer-algae blend by blending the algae and elastomer to a temperature sufficient to be further mixed, wherein the temperature is about 10° C. higher than the temperature sufficient for the elastomer alone; adding and mixing a curing or vulcanizing agent for the elastomer dispersing the elastomer-algae blend; and heating and curing the elastomer-algae blend into a final form.

A thermoplastic elastomer composition is disclosed that includes an elastomer and a non-elastomeric polyolefin, which is functionalized with an anhydride of an organic carboxylic acid. Furthermore, the use of a mixture of an elastomer and a cross-linking agent for the elastomer for producing a thermoplastic elastomer composition are disclose. A further subject of the invention is the use of a non-elastomeric polyolefin which is functionalized with an anhydride of an organic carboxylic acid for producing a thermoplastic elastomer composition according to the invention. In addition, the invention relates to the use of a thermoplastic elastomer composition according to the invention for producing an article/composite material with a polyamide. The invention also relates to a process for producing a thermoplastic elastomer composition according to the invention as well as a composite material made of the thermoplastic elastomer composition according to the invention with a polyamide.
