1,217,714. Water insoluble benzisothiazole dyes. BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODAFABRIK A.G. 31 May, 1968 [3 June, 1967], No. 26204/68. Heading C4P. The invention comprises dyestuffs free from carboxylic and sulphonic acid groups having the general formula wherein K is a radical of a coupling component of the benzene series, Y is -O-, -S-, -SO-, - SO 2 - or a direct bond and rings A and B may bear substituents. The alkylene chain preferably has 1 to 4 carbon atoms and may be linear or branched. Preferred dyestuffs have the general formula wherein E and G are nitro, methyl, methoxy, ethoxy, methylsulphonyl, ethylsulphonyl, cyano, carbomethoxy, carboethoxy, hydrogen, chlorine, bromine, or fluorine, X is hydrogen, methyl, ethyl, methoxy or ethoxy, Z is hydrogen, chlorine, bromine, methyl, acetylamino, propionylamino, methoxy or ethoxy, Y<SP>1</SP> is a direct bond or -0- or -S- and R is methyl, ethyl, propyl, butyl, #-hydroxyethyl, #-methoxyethyl, #-ethoxyethyl, #-cyanoethyl, #-chloroethyl, #-acetoxyethyl, #-carbomethoxyethyl, #-carboethoxyethyl, #-hydroxypropyl, #,γ-dihydroxypropyl, #-acetylaminoethyl or γ-acetylaminopropyl group. They are prepared by diazotization and coupling. The dyes give red, blue and violet shades on synthetic polyamides, polyesters and cellulose esters.
