A mono azo dye comprises a crystalline compound represented by formula: The dye has an X-ray diffraction pattern with peaks at angles (2???) of 20.0 DEG and 7.5 DEG . The dye is produced by diazotizing 2,4-dinitro-6,2,4-dinitro-6-bromo- aniline, coupling the diazo compound with 3-acetylamino-N,N-diethyl- aniline (e.g. at 0 DEG C), preferably filtering off the blue dye as a cake, and subjecting to heat treatment at 50 to 200 DEG C. The mono azo dye is used in dispersion or as a paste for dip dyeing or print dyeing of polyester fibres and blends thereof; it withstands dyeing at high temperature, e.g. 130 DEG C, to provided dyed fibres having excellent fastness properties.

The monoazo compound represented by formula I is excellent in compatibility with, solubility in, and coloring power for, almost all water-immiscible organic liquids, has a low melting point, and is suitable for use to color molten plastics, synthetic fiber spinning solutions, etc., and to color thermal transfer ink. [I] wherein R represents sec-butyl; Cp represents a coupling component residue. The dense solution of at least one kind of said monoazo compound in a hydrocarbon solvent diffuses and dissolves quickly and uniformly in coloring subjects such as petroleum products, and is capable of coloring fuel oil etc. to a desired distinguishable color density with small amounts.

The dyes exhibit blue shades with excellent colorfastness properties on polyester fibers and have excellent dyeability by heat fixation (Thermosol) or exhaust (boil and pressure) methods of application on this substrate. The present invention relates to a monoazo-based dye for acid detection, which changes color upon addition of or exposure to acid and, more specifically, to a dye which changes color within a few seconds upon exposure to a trace amount of a strong acidic material, and a fiber product using the same. The monoazo-based dye for acid detection according to the present invention has an effect of reacting with a trace amount of strong acid to change color, and returning to the original color when the acid is removed. Also, a fiber dyed with the dye of the present invention exhibits high color fastness and thus is not discolored and faded by laundering or sunlight. In addition, there is an effect of preventing secondary contamination at an accident scene and serious accidents from harmful environmental factors, when protective or working clothes are manufactured applying the effect, thereby providing a function enabling workers to recognize an exposure to acid in real time in the case of an exposure to an acid-contaminated environment. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the acid is in the form of a gas or a liquid.3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the acid is a strong acid in the range of pH 0.1 to pH 5.4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the acid is hydrochloric acid claim 1 , hydrofluoric acid claim 1 , sulfuric acid claim 1 , or a mixture thereof.5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the concentration of the acid to be added or exposed is in the range of 3 ppm to 1000 ppm.6. Also, the light-absorbable anisotropic film exhibits diffraction peaks resulting from the periodic structure in the direction perpendicular to the orientation axis as measured by X-ray diffractometry. The period represented by at least one of the diffraction peaks is from 3.0 to 15.0 Å, and the maximum values of the intensities of the diffraction peaks are not within the range of ±70° with respect to the direction which is normal to the film and which lies within a plane perpendicular to the orientation axis.

A process for colouring a synthetic textile material or fibre blend thereof which comprises applying to the synthetic textile material a compound or mixture thereof, which is free from water solubilising groups, of the Formula (1) A-N=N-D, wherein: A and D each independently is an optionally substituted heterocyclic or carbocyclic group and at least one of A or D carries directly at least one -SO2F group or carries a substituent to which at least one -SO2F group is attached except for 4-(4-fluorosulphonylphenylazo)-N,N-dimethylaniline, provided that one of A or D is not 3,5-difluorosulphonylthien-2-yl, optionally substituted 1-phenyl-pyrazol-4-yl-5-one or (a) or that one of A or D does not carry an -NCH2CH(OH)CH2Cl, -NCOCH2Cl or -NCH2CH2SO2F substituent. The presence of one or more -SO2F groups in a dye molecule generally improves the properties of that dye and confers surprisingly good wet fastness and light fastness properties.
