A family of covalent kinetic stabilizer compounds that selectively and covalently react with the prominent plasma protein transthyretin in preference to more than 4000 other human plasma proteins is disclosed. A contemplated compound corresponds in structure to Formula I, below, where the various substituents are defined within, and reacts chemoselectively with one or two of four Lys-15 ε-amino groups within the transthyretin tetramer. The crystal structure confirms the binding orientation of the compound substructure and the conjugating amide bond. A covalent transthyretin kinetic stabilizer exhibits superior amyloid inhibition potency, compared to a non-covalent counterpart, and inhibits cytotoxicity associated with amyloidogenesis.

New acyl dihydroxybenzene azo dyes are of formula (I): In the formula, A is phenyl with =3 substits. or naphthyl with =2 substits. consisting of 1-4C alkyl or alkoxy, CF3, CN, NO2, Cl or Br, or A of formula (II) or (III). R6 and R7 are H, CN, NO2, Cl, Br, lower alkyl or alkyl sulphonyl, CF3, COOR' or phenyl. R' is lower alkyl. R8 and R9 is H, lower alkyl or alkoxy, Cl, Br, NO2, sulphonyl, N,N-dialkyl sulphonyl, CN or lower alkyl sulphonyl. R is 1-4C alkyl, benzyl or phenyl, with =2 1-4C alkyl or alkoxy, Cl or Br. (I) are used as dispersion dyes for metal-modified polyolefin fibres, esp. Ni-contg. polypropylene fibres in carpet form, in yellow-orange to brown shades. Strong, brilliant shades are obtained with very good fastness to light and abrasion and resistance to solvents, gas and heat.

A process for colouring a synthetic textile material or fibre blend thereof which comprises applying to the synthetic textile material a compound or mixture thereof, which is free from water solubilising groups, of the Formula (1) A-N=N-D, wherein: A and D each independently is an optionally substituted heterocyclic or carbocyclic group and at least one of A or D carries directly at least one -SO2F group or carries a substituent to which at least one -SO2F group is attached except for 4-(4-fluorosulphonylphenylazo)-N,N-dimethylaniline, provided that one of A or D is not 3,5-difluorosulphonylthien-2-yl, optionally substituted 1-phenyl-pyrazol-4-yl-5-one or (a) or that one of A or D does not carry an -NCH2CH(OH)CH2Cl, -NCOCH2Cl or -NCH2CH2SO2F substituent. The presence of one or more -SO2F groups in a dye molecule generally improves the properties of that dye and confers surprisingly good wet fastness and light fastness properties.

The present invention allows the preparation of the said azodyes in high yields.
