A composite is provided including metal chalcogenide nanotubes as the dispersed phase in a polymeric matrix, in which the polymeric matrix may be a fluoropolymer, urethane (e.g., polyurethane), sulfonic polymer, as well as epoxy and acrylic polymers for adhesive applications, such as pressure sensitive adhesives. 1. A composite comprising:{'sub': 2', '2, 'a dispersed phase of an inorganic nanotube material of the metal chalcogenide has a molecular formula MX, where M is a metallic element selected from the group consisting of titanium (Ti), vanadium (V), chromium (Cr), manganese (Mn), iron (Fe), cobalt (Co), nickel (Ni), copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), zirconium (Zr), niobium (Nb), molybdenum (Mo), technetium (Tc), ruthenium (Ru), rhodium (Rh), palladium (Pd), silver (Ag), cadmium (Cd), hafnium (Hf), tantalum (Ta), tungsten (W), rhenium (Re), osmium (Os), iridium (Jr), platinum (Pt), gold (Au), mercury (Hg) and combinations thereof, and X is a chalcogen element selected from the group consisting of sulfur (S), selenium (Se), tellurium (Te), oxygen (O) and combinations thereof, wherein the inorganic nanotube material of the metal chalcogenide having the molecular formula MXis uniformly present in a polymer matrix in an amount of greater than 0.1 wt %.'}2. The composite of claim 1 , wherein the polymer matrix has a composition selected from the group consisting of a fluoropolymer claim 1 , a urethane polymer claim 1 , a sulfonic polymer and combinations thereof.3. The composite of claim 1 , wherein the matrix is an epoxy based adhesive claim 1 , an acrylic based adhesive or a combination thereof.4. The composite of claim 1 , wherein the inorganic nanotube material has an aspect ratio ranging from 100:1 to 150 claim 1 ,000:1.5.
