Preferably the adhesive composition has a pH of from 7 to 11 and a volatile stabilizing base component is used to inactivate the functional groups and to provide the pH. The functional groups in the polymer component and the cross linker component are activated when the volatile base is removed during lamination heat treatment. The adhesive composition can be used to adhere a variety of plastic films to metal substrates without reliance on non-water-based adhesives.

The self seal adhesive system is comprised of a transfer adhesive disposed on a transfer web and an anchor adhesive disposed on an anchor web with the two adhesives forming the seal for the package. The self seal adhesives bond to themselves when pressure is applied to close or seal the packaging material. When peeled apart, the adhesive splits, adhesively fails from either or both the front web or the back web, or destroys one or both of the substrates of the package. Primer coatings may also be used to enhance performance of the self seal adhesive.

Described is a process for preparing an aqueous pressure-sensitive adhesive dispersion from ethylenically unsaturated, free-radically polymerizable monomers. In a first stage, a first polymer is prepared by free-radical emulsion polymerization. In a second stage, an aqueous polymer dispersion is prepared in the presence of the first polymer, where the glass transition temperature calculated for a polymer prepared from the monomers of the second stage is less than −20° C. The monomers of the first stage comprise monomers with acid groups. The polymerization of the first stage takes place at a low pH of less than 5. The acid groups of the first polymer are neutralized during, or before and during, the polymerization of the second stage to an extent such that the pH of the polymer dispersion at the end of the second stage is greater than 5. The aqueous pressure-sensitive adhesive dispersions can be used for producing self-adhesive articles, especially self-adhesive labels and adhesive tapes.

Polymer compositions for UV curable primer formulations, as described herein. The primer formulations contain a modifier selected from the following: at least one modifier selected from a) through d) below: a) R1R2C═CR3-(CO)—Z (Formula A), as described herein, b) an acrylate-containing oligomer that has a Mn≤1500 g/mol, and an acid value from 50 to 500 mg KOH/g; c) a random terpolymer comprising, in polymerized form, vinyl chloride, vinyl acetate, and at least one of the following: a hydroxyl-containing alkyl acrylate, a hydroxyl-containing alkyl meth-acrylate, or a combination thereof or d) any combination of a) through c). Such primer formulations are useful for the binding of olefin-based polymer foams. 2. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition further comprises at least one photoinitiator.3. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the weight ratio of component A to the sum weight of components B claim 1 , C and D claim 1 , A/(B+C+D) claim 1 , is from 0.10 to 0.75.4. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the component A is present in an amount from 5 to 35 wt % claim 1 , based on the weight of the composition.5. An adhesive polymer composition comprising a non-elastomeric copolymer of ethylene and one or more comonomers having 3 to 10 carbon atoms, and an elastomer is disclosed herein. Provided are functionalized polypropylene adhesive compositions having a desirable range of melt flow rate. These compositions are obtained by grafting at least one impact polypropylene copolymer or by co-grafting a blend containing at least one impact polypropylene copolymer and at least one random polypropylene copolymer. The polypropylene copolymer(s) are grafted with one or more ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acids or derivatives of these acids, such as anhydrides. Maleic anhydride is a preferred grafting monomer. Also provided is a multilayer film or sheet structure containing at least one barrier layer and at least one adhesive layer produced from the functionalized polypropylene adhesive composition. Furthermore, the use of the adhesive provides a laminate of a polar resin (F) and a polyolefin (G) having excellent interlaminar adhesive force both under a room temperature atmosphere and under a high temperature atmosphere.

The subject invention pertains to heteromorphic polymer compositions characterized as comprising: (a) a homogeneous linear or substantially linear ethylene/α-olefin interpolymer backbone; and (b) a branch appending from the backbone, which branch comprises an ethylene homopolymer or ethylene/α-olefin interpolymer having a density which is at least 0.004 g/cm 3 greater than that of the backbone. At least one of the backbone polymer or the branch polymer may be optionally functionalized to promote adhesion to polar surfaces. The heteromorphic polymer compositions of the invention exhibit enhanced upper service temperature. Also disclosed is a process for preparing the heteromorphic polymer compositions of the invention.

A copolymer comprising units of an unsaturated dicarboxylic monomer and an ethylene α-olefin macromer is disclosed. The macromer is an unsaturated ethylene α-olefin polymer comprising units of from ethylene and at least one α-olefin represented by the formula CH 2 ═CHR a , wherein R a is a C 1 to C 18 linear alkyl group or a C 3 to C 18 branched alkyl group; the ethylene α-olefin polymer has a number average molecular weight of from about 500 to about 100,000; and at least about 30% of the unsaturation in the ethylene α-olefin polymer is terminal vinylidene. The copolymer has a carbon-carbon backbone and contains succinic groups and hydrocarbyl groups. The copolymer can be derivatized by reaction with nucleophilic reactants including monoamines, polyamines, monoalcohols, polyols, amino alcohols, reactant metal compounds and mixtures thereof. The derivatized copolymers can be post-treated (e.g., borated) with one or more post-treating agents (e.g., boric acid). The copolymer, its derivatives, and post-treated derivatives are useful as additives (e.g., dispersants and viscosity index improvers) in fuels and in lubricating oils.
