A composite pressure sensitive adhesive construction contains a central release liner, a layer of an adhesive on each side thereof, and an exterior release liner on at least one of the adhesive layers. The central release liner and the exterior release liner contain release coatings on surfaces thereof which contact the adhesive layer. The composite construction may be made up in the form of a roll for easy dispensing or in the form of a precut tape. The pressure sensitive adhesive construction is generally useful for making any type of sealing connection wherein an initial releasable connection is desired. A method of joining abutting surfaces of polymeric material includes disposing between the surfaces insert means formed of thermoplastic material having dispersed therein a heat-activatable cross-linking agent. Reinforcement in the form of a foraminous member is positioned along the line of the join. The resulting assembly is heated under compression to cause the insert means to flow and the cross-linking agent to be activated. As a result, the insert means becomes bonded to the surfaces of the polymeric material and to the reinforcement means. One article produced by this method is in the form of a sleeve, the line of the join being substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the sleeve. The join is continuous from one end of the sleeve to the other and is of essentially the same thickness as the walls of the sleeve.

An infrared heat tunnel with hot air circulation for heat shrinking wraparound labels on containers which are moved through the tunnel in an upright attitude on an open weave conveyor belt. The infrared heating is by electrical strip heaters along the sides of the tunnel and air is blown by blowers across these heaters to impinge on the sides of the containers. The air is drawn down through the conveyor belt since the inlet to the blowers is from beneath the conveyor. A vertical air curtain along each side of the first half of the tunnel is adjustable in length to effectively delay the skin shrinkage of the film-foam material of the labels in order to get wrinkle-free shrinkage of the film and underlying foam about the container wall and heel areas without bottle rotation.

A composite pressure sensitive adhesive construction contains a central release liner (20), a layer of an adhesive (30, 35) on each side thereof, and optionally, an exterior release liner (40, 45) on at least one of the adhesive layers. The central release liner and the exterior release liner contain release coatings (21, 22, 41, 46) on surfaces thereof which contact the adhesive layer. The pressure sensitive adhesive construction may be utilized in sealing pipe insulating jackets (60) wherein the exterior release liners are removed and the adhesive construction is applied to the opposite longitudinal ends or sides (67, 68) of the insulating jacket cover. The insulating jacket may then be stored until utilized whereupon the central release liner (20) is removed, the jacket inserted about the pipe, and a sealing connection then made by pressing the two exposed adhesive layers together.

The sheets in a column of compartments of a sorter, collator or the like are jogged to align their edges. An endless belt is moved past a glue dispenser to coat a length of the belt corresponding to the number of compartments to be covered. The belt is then moved into engagement with the edges of the sheets in those compartments to deposit the adhesive on the edges. The operation is then intermittently repeated along the edges of the sheets to bond the desired extent of the length of the edges. A jogging mechanism aligns and holds the edges in alignment for binding.

The polyvinyl acetal resin may be polyvinyl formal, acetal, butyral, preferably having a polyvinyl alcohol content of 6 to 22%. The epoxide resin may be in a complex polymeric epoxy hydroxy ether resuiting from the catalyzed reaction of a polyhydric phenol with an excess of an epoxide e.g. epihalohydrins and alkylene oxides, having an epoxide equivalent of 425 to 6,000. A weldable and vibration damping adhesive composition comprising:a) a silicone-based pressure sensitive adhesive matrix,b) electrically conductive or metallic particles dispersed in the matrix,c) cross linker.2. The adhesive composition according to claim 1 , wherein the adhesive exhibits either a symmetric or asymmetric peak composite loss factor greater than 0.10 at a frequency of 50 Hz and greater than 0.05 at a frequency of 8000 Hz.3. The adhesive composition of wherein the silicone-based adhesive matrix includes (i) a silicone adhesive claim 1 , and (ii) one or more of a silicone gum claim 1 , MQ resin claim 1 , and another silicone adhesive.4. The adhesive composition of wherein at least one of the silicone adhesives includes a) a polyorganosiloxane gum claim 3 , with in-chain and/or end-chain vinyl functionality and b) a MQ resin.5. The adhesive composition of wherein at least one of the silicone adhesives includes a) one or more of a polydimethylsiloxane gum claim 3 , polymethylphenyl siloxane gum claim 3 , copolymers of polydimethyl and polymethylphenyl siloxane gum claim 3 , or copolymers of polydimethyl and polydiphenyl siloxane gum and b) a MQ resin.6. In a process to apply a wood veneer facing material to a wood-based substrate, one bears an adhesive. The veneer is presented to the substrate at an acute angle alpha. A laser beam is directed through the gap between veneer and substrate at the nip gap, activating the adhesive. The veneer (3) and substrate (1) advance together under a rolling press wheel (4). A sensor determines how much energy is taken up by the adhesive and the information is registered by a feedback control system to modify process parameters as necessary e.g. feed rate, laser power, laser beam geometry, press force. The acute angle is less than 20. The laser beam is directed via a lens system or a beam oscillator. The laser beam wavelength is between 800 and 2500 nm or 9 m and 11 m. The laser is a diode laser, a solid body laser, fiber laser or CO(2 laser. Also claimed is a commensurate assembly.

A composite pressure sensitive adhesive construction contains a central release liner, a layer of an adhesive on each side thereof, and an exterior release liner on at least one of the adhesive layers. The central release liner and the exterior release liner contain release coatings on surfaces thereof which contact the adhesive layer. The composite construction may be made up in the form of a roll for easy dispensing or in the form of a precut tape. The pressure sensitive adhesive construction is generally useful for making any type of sealing connection wherein an initial releasable connection is desired. For example, the pressure sensitive adhesive construction may be utilized in sealing pipe insulating jackets wherein the exterior release liners are removed and the adhesive construction is applied to the opposite longitudinal ends or sides of the insulating jacket cover. The insulating jacket may then be stored until utilized whereupon the central release liner is removed, the jacket inserted about the pipe, and a sealing connection then made by pressing the two exposed adhesive layers together. Alternatively, the adhesive may be applied through rolling, spraying, or painting directly to both opposite longitudinal ends or sides of the jacket cover, the two applied adhesive layers being separated by the interposition of the central release liner during storage.

The invention also relates to a method for producing a refrigerator and to a refrigerator comprising correspondingly joined tube sections.

Said epoxy resin has a mean molecular weight of 800 or more and is used in an amount of 0.2 to 1.5 part by weight per 1 part by weight of said phenol-formaldehyde resin in said composition. This composition used for the sheet displays an excellent adhesiveness particularly with respective to the use of a polyamide type adhesive.

Said method is characterized in that: a) adhesive is applied to the overlapping region of at least one of the tubes and the adhesive is selected in such a way that it is solid at temperatures of below 30°C after application to the overlapping region and prior to the connection of the tubes, and cannot be cured without thermal activation; b) the tube having the adhesive in the overlapping region is pushed onto or inside the other tube; c) the tubes are fixed in relation to one another in the overlapping region by a heatable clamp, said clamp being designed in such a way that it can heat the tubes in said region; d) the adhesive is thermally activated by heating the overlapping region with the aid of the heatable clamp, whereby the adhesive cures and connects the two tubes in the overlapping region; and e) the heatable clamp is removed once the adhesive has cured. The invention also relates to a method for producing a refrigerator and to a refrigerator comprising correspondingly joined tube sections.

A composite pressure sensitive adhesive construction contains a central release liner, a layer of an adhesive on each side thereof, and optionally, an exterior release liner on at least one of the adhesive layers. The central release liner and the exterior release liner contain release coatings on surfaces thereof which contact the adhesive layer. The pressure sensitive adhesive construction may be utilized in sealing pipe insulating jackets wherein the exterior release liners are removed and the adhesive construction is applied to the opposite longitudinal ends or sides of the insulating jacket cover. The insulating jacket may then be stored until utilized whereupon the central release liner is removed, the jacket inserted about the pipe, and a sealing connection then made by pressing the two exposed adhesive layers together.

An overlap seal for joining together two edges of reinforced thermoplastic material. A plurality of strands or bands of hot melt adhesive are applied adjacent the edge of the one sheet of thermoplastic reinforced material and the edge of another sheet is positioned above the first sheet. The sheets are brought together and pressure is applied so that the heat contained in the hot melt adhesive causes a fusion of the two edges of thermoplastic to create a high strength bond. Some of the bands of thermoplastic material flow together to form a wide band with narrower bands on each side to provide an overlapped seal having increased strength.

It is thereby possible to firmly join the dissimilar metal plates ( 1, 2 ) by combining adhesion due to an adhesive and spot welding.

The edges of the strips to be joined together have been melt-shrunk into such a thickness that the thickness of the seam (4) formed by the joined edge portions (1b, 2b) of the strips does not exceed the thickness of the other portions of the strips. The strips of fabric are, at least at the edges to be joined together, provided with reinforcement yarns (3) parallel to said edges, the melting point of said yarns being higher than the melting temperature used during the melt-seaming. The reinforcement yarns provide in the seam a high strength in the longitudinal direction in spite of the melting of the edge portions of the strips. In the method of making such a non-woven fabric the edge portions of the strips of fabric are heated to a melting temperature, which is higher than the melting point of the fibrous material of the strips of fabric but lower than the melting point of the reinforcement yarns, whereupon the melt-shrunk edges of the strips are pressed together to make a seam having the same thickness as the other portions of the strips.
