The present invention relates to the use of charged cellulose nanocrystals as a corrosion inhibitor. According to one aspect, there is provided a corrosion inhibitor comprising of a plurality of charged cellulose nanocrystals fibrils. There is further provided a process for inhibiting corrosion of metal equipment where water can reside. According to a further aspect, the process includes adding an effective corrosion inhibiting amount of acid-form the cellulose nanocrystals. According to another aspect, the process includes selectively causing a first set of the cellulose nanocrystals to be negatively charged. The first set of the cellulose nanocrystals so charged function as an anodic corrosion inhibitor. The process includes selectively causing a second set of the cellulose nanocrystals to be positively charged. The second set of the cellulose nanocrystals so charged functions as a cathodic corrosion inhibitor. 1. A corrosion inhibitor comprising:a plurality of charged cellulose nanocrystals fibrils.2. Disclosed is a lubricant for use in cold forming of a metal. The lubricant comprises a mixture of at least one lubricating compound and at least one starch. The starch adheres the lubricating compound to the metal surface. The present lubricant completely removes the need to pre-coat the metal with a zinc phosphate coating to adhere the lubricating compound to the metal. The present lubricant eliminates several steps required in processes that utilize zinc phosphate pre-coatings. In addition, the lubricant of the present invention is easily removed after the cold forming operations unlike zinc phosphate coatings. 1. A lubricant for use in cold forming of a metal comprising:at least one lubricating compound; andat least one starch;wherein a weight:weight ratio of a total amount of said at least one lubricating compound to a total amount of said at least one starch in said lubricant is in a range of from 1:1 to 8:1 and wherein said lubricant is a solid at 75° F.2. The method as in claim 12 ,wherein a salt of modified cellulose is added to the water as the additive and sole polymeric lubricant.15. The method according to claim 12 , wherein a water content in the lubricant is at least 50 percent by volume.16. The method according to claim 12 , wherein at least one additional functional additive is added to the fluid.17. ABSTRACT A process for producing an additive for lubricants and for aqueous fuel mixtures and heating media is described, in which an alkaline aqueous solution of an inverted cane sugar as the main component and containing a hydrocarbon and an alcohol is heated and then cooled. Use is made of inverted cane sugar with a degree of inversion of approximately 50 to 80% and is heated to approximately 75 to 100°C until a red shade forms. The additive obtained in this way, mixed with alcohol, water and gasoline, can be used as an excellent fuel and as a substitute for normal gasoline and even superfuel. A corresponding mixture can also be used as a heating medium. The characteristics of lubricants can be improved by incorporating this additive. In addition, the effectiveness of air filters of motor vehicles and internal combustion systems can be improved by impregnating the filter material with the described additive.

It is preferred to apply the surface-treating agent to the surface of a metallic sheet so as to form a film in an amount of 0.05 to 3 g/m2 on a dry basis.

A viscous fluid, such as heavy crude oil which is too viscous to enable it to be pumped from a flowing phase of a reservoir into and along a pipeline for delivery to a refinery or other storage facility, may be contacted with a formulation to reduce its viscosity. The formulation comprises a polymeric material AA which includes -O- moieties pendent from a polymeric backbone thereof and said material is optionally cross-linked. In one embodiment, the formulation may comprise polyvinyl alcohol. In an alternative embodiment, the formulation may comprise a cross-linked polymeric material, such as cross-linked polyvinyl alcohol. After the viscous composition has been transported to a desired location, it may be separated from the other components.

Lubricating additives for drilling fluids are prepared from semi-solid highl y viscous and/or high molecular weight lubricants, such as polyalkylenes (e.g. , polybutene), by steam jet cooking a mixture of starch, water, and the lubricant in order to uniformly suspend micrometer-sized lubricant droplets in an aqueous starch matrix. These additives avoid the need for toxic emulsifiers, surfactants, or short-chain hydrocarbon solvents for dispersing the lubricants. They impart lubricity to drilling fluids (muds) and also inhibit fluid loss in geological formations by enhancing the filtration control properties of the fluid.

A process is disclosed for manufacturing a lubricant composition comprising combining a superabsorbent polymer with a material for decreasing friction between moving surfaces. The superabsorbent polymer absorbs from about 25 to greater than 100 times its weight in water and may comprise a polymer of acrylic acid, an acrylic ester, acrylonitrile or acrylamide, including co-polymers thereof or starch graft co-polymers thereof or mixtures thereof. A product produced by the process includes the material for decreasing friction comprising a petroleum lubricant containing an additive, water containing an additive, synthetic lubricant, grease, solid lubricant or metal working lubricant, wherein the synthetic lubricant, grease, solid lubricant or metal working lubricant optionally contain an additive. A process comprising controlling the delivery of a lubricant to at least one of two moving surfaces in order to decrease friction between said moving surfaces, is also disclosed. This process includes applying the lubricant composition to at least one of the surfaces. The lubricant composition in this instance comprises a superabsorbent polymer combined with a material for decreasing friction between moving surfaces, wherein the material for decreasing friction comprises a petroleum lubricant, water, synthetic lubricant, grease, solid lubricant or metal working lubricant, and optionally an additive.
