A method comprising:contacting a fluid comprising a paraffin, wax, and/or an asphaltene selected from a group consisting of crude oil, a lubricant, a refinery fluid, fuel oil, and combinations thereof with an additive in an effective amount for at least partially reducing an accumulation of the paraffin, wax, and/or asphaltene as compared to an otherwise identical fluid absent the additive; wherein the additive comprises a block copolymer comprising at least a first component and a second component; wherein the first component is a charged monomer, and the second component is a long chain fatty alcohol acrylate monomer, wherein the charged monomer is selected from the group consisting of a cationic acrylate based monomer, a salt of acrylic acid, a salt of methacrylic acid, a salt of carboxyethyl acrylate, a salt of carboxyethyl methacrylate, a sulfonated styrene, a cationic styrene derivative, an ester derived from a cationic terminated alcohol, an ester derived from a carboxylate terminated alcohol, a derivative formed from alkylation with a cationic terminated epoxide, a derivative formed from alkylation with an anionic terminated epoxides, and combinations thereof; and wherein the charged monomer reduces the amount of agglomeration or precipitation of ...

Polar monomer-containing copolymers derived from at least one α, β unsaturated carbonyl compound, such as alkyl acrylates and one or more olefins, such olefins including ethylene and C 3 -C 20 α-olefins such as propylene and 1-butene, which copolymers have (a) an average ethylene sequence length, ESL, of from about 1.0 to less than about 3.0; (b) an average of at least 5 branches per 100 carbon atoms of the copolymer chains comprising the copolymer; (c) at least about 50% of said branches being methyl and/or ethyl branches; (d) substantially all of said incorporated polar monomer is present at the terminal position of said branches; (e) at least about 30% of said copolymer chains terminated with a vinyl or vinylene group; (f) a number average molecular weight, Mn, of from about 300 to about 15,000 when the copolymer is intended for dispersant or wax crystal modifier uses and up to about 500,000 where intended for viscosity modifier uses; and (g) substantial solubility in hydrocarbon and/or synthetic base oil. The derivative is selected from the group consisting of: alkyl hydroxyaromatic compounds; alkyl alkoxy aromatic compounds; polyisobutenylsuccinic anhydrides; polyisobutenylsuccinimides; PIB-amine compounds; sulfurized PIB compounds; and Mannich condensation products of an alkylated hydroxyaromatic compound.

This invention is directed to an oil soluble dispersant and to a process for preparing said dispersant which comprises contacting and reacting at least one carboxylic-acylating agent having at least about 30 aliphatic carbon atoms per molecule with effective amounts of at least one hydroxy compound, at least one polyoxyalkylene polyamine having an average molecular weight of at least about 200 and from zero to about 4.0 equivalents of at least one alkylene amine per equivalent of said carboxylic-acylating agent. The dispersant of this invention is particularly useful as an additive for a variety of oleaginous materials including, for example, fuels, lubricating oils, hydraulic fluids and the like.

Lubricating oil compositions and methods for lubricating gasoline-fueled and/or alcohol-fueled, spark-ignited engines

A lubricating oil composition is described which is useful in spark-ignited engines which may be fueled with gasoline, alcohol, or mixtures of both. More particularly, lubricating oil compositions for spark-ignited engines are described which comprise (A) an oil of lubricating viscosity; (B) at least one detergent selected from the group consisting of a basic magnesium salt of an organic acid or a mixture of at least one basic magnesium salt of an organic acid and another alkaline earth metal salt of an organic acid wherein the metal in the mixture is predominantly magnesium; and (C) at least one metal salt of (C-1) a substituted succinic acid acylated polyamine; or (C-2) a hydrocarbon-substituted aromatic carboxylic acid containing at least one hydroxyl group attached to an aromatic ring, provided that the metal of said metal salt (C) is not calcium or magnesium. Lubricants primarily useful for lubricating alcohol-fueled, spark-ignited engines also are described which comprise (A) a lubricating oil, (B) a detergent as described above, and (D) at least one carboxylic acid derivative composition useful as a dispersant. The oil compositions of the invention also may contain, and generally do contain other desirable additives such as (E) mixtures of metal salts of dihydrocarbyl phosphorodithioic acids; (F) sulfurized olefins; etc. In one embodiment, the oil compositions of the present invention contain the above additives and other additives described in the specification in amounts sufficient to enable the oil to meet all the performance requirements of the API Service Classification identified as "SG".
