(COC), solubility in mineral oil of greater than 5 wt %, sulfur content of from 4.8 wt % through 6.0 wt %, and phosphorus content of from 2.9 through 3.6 wt %; (iii) less than 1.0 wt % of a dithiocarbamate, wherein the Conradson carbon residue is less than or equal to 3.00. The dithiocarbamate is added to the base oil blend as a top treatment.

A method of producing high purity polyol esters comprises reacting a polyol with an excess amount of a linear or branched aliphatic monocarboxylic C3-20 acid to esterify less than the total amount of the polyol present to form an intermediate reaction composition having a hydroxyl value of from 7 to about 50 mg KOH/g. An anhydride of the corresponding linear or branched aliphatic monocarboxylic C3-20 acid is added to the intermediate reaction composition in an amount of from 1 to about 2.5 equivalents of available OH in the intermediate composition to form a reaction mixture. The reaction mixture is heated for 5-30 minutes or until all of the corresponding anhydride has reacted to form a reaction product. The reaction product is then de-acidified. No metal or acid catalyst or bleaching agents are present in any of the above reaction steps at a concentration above about 15 ppm.

A reciprocating compressor oil comprising a 2 ,6-di-tert-butylphenol and a tris (2 ,4-di-tert-butylphenyl) phosphite as additive in a mineral oil and/or a synthetic oil as a base oil , wherein the naphthene component in the total amount of base oil is from 17 to 30% in the % Cof ring analysis according to ASTM D3238 , and having a pour point of −25° C. or lower.2. An environmentally acceptable lubricating grease, comprising: a) 50 wt % to 90 wt % of a biodegradable base oil comprising a biodegradable ester as base oil; b) 3 wt % to 25 wt % of a thickener selected from b1) 3 wt % to 12 wt % biodegradable calcium soap, b2) 3 wt % to 25 wt % bentonites, b3) and mixtures thereof; c) 4 wt % to 40 wt % additives, comprising c1) 1 wt % to 12 wt % fumed silicon dioxide and/or polytetrafluoroethylene and/or mixtures thereof, c2) 2 wt % to 45 wt % of a polymer selected from polyisobutylene, polyisobutylene/butene copolymer, polymethacrylates, polyesters and mixtures thereof, c3) 0.5 wt % to 20 wt % of a solid lubricant.
