SUBSTANCE: visually contrasting aesthetic particles are described, where each particle contains a mixture: of 55 wt % to 70 wt % of fatty acid, of 10 wt % to 45 wt % of sodium montmorillonite clay, of 10 wt % to 45 wt % of calcium montmorillonite clay, where the particles comprise less than 5 wt % of the residue when subjected to the test for solubility, where the solubility test includes: (i) adding 3.5 g of detergent with the subsequent immediate addition of 1 g of the aesthetic particle in a vessel containing 1000 ml of water of medium hardness, at a temperature of 15°C with stirring at 200 rpm, (ii) after complete dissolution of the aesthetic particle or 15 minutes of mixing, depending on what occurs first, draining the washing liquid and any undissolved material in a 150 mcm sieve and rinsing with deionized water, (iii) transferring the liquid and any undissolved material to a Buchner funnel and filtering through a dried and pre-weighed filter paper of Whatman® type 4, and (iv) drying the filter paper at 105°C and weighing for the determination. The plasticiser and/or lubricant is an aq. surfactant paste and is added to the premix in an amt. of 0.5-10wt.%. The premix has a free H2O content of 4-8wt.%. The H2O content may be kept low by adding moisture-binding ingredients, esp. Na2SO4, Na2CO3 and/or zeolite, in anhydrous form. The premix is homogenised and extruded in a twin-screw extruder under a pressure of 80-180 bar. The cut extrudates are rounded (e.g., in a 'Marmurizer') while dusting with NaA zeolite, to produce granules with a dia. of 0.5-5 (esp. 0.8-3)mm. If necessary, the granules are dried in a fluidised-bed dryer at an air inlet temp. of up to 80 deg.C, corresp. to a granule temp. of 55-60 deg.C. Temp.-sensitive ingredients are added after drying, e.g., by spraying or as separate granules. The granules are used to prepare washing powders with a surfactant content of up to 35 (esp. 15-25)wt.%.

A detergent paste composition comprising: from 50 % to 94 % by weight of an anionic surfactant; from 1 % to 30 % by weight of an alkyl ethoxy sulphate and from 5 % to 35 % by weight of water. The paste has a viscosity greater than 10 Pa.s at a temperature of 70 °C and measured at a shear rate of 25 s-1. The paste has rheological properties making it well-suited to the further processing into high active detergent agglomerate suitable for use in free flowing granular detergent compositions.

A dry concd. washing powder compsn. of apparent specific wt. >=550g/1 consists of (A) 30-70 % (pref. 35-60% and esp 37.5-55%) of an anionic, monionic or amphoteric surfactant and (B) 70-30 (pref. 65-40% esp. 625-45%) of a dense powdery compsn. Component (B) consists of 40-100% of Na2CO3 or mixts. of >=50% Na2CO3 with sodium sesqui-or bi-carbonate provided the total carbonate in the compsn is not >=60% 0-40% of sodium citrate; 0-40% of sodium silicate; 0-40% of inorgance charge and 0-40% of bleaching agents, enzymes, corrosion inhibitors, anti-redeposition agents, optical whiteners, foam stabilisers, faom inhibitors, anti-agglomerating agents and perfumes. The compsn. is more effective on washing polyester/cotton materials, has less effect on coloured articles and leaves the cloths with a less harsh feel. The powder is used for cleaning textile materials and for cleaning hard surfaces.

Process for the preparation of a detergent composition having a high bulk density

The subject of the invention is a process for the preparation of a granular detergent component or composition having a bulk density from at least approximately 700 g/l up to a density of approximately 110 g/l, comprising: a. producing a raw material in the form of a particulate detergent or component of low density comprising an organic surface-active agent, a water-soluble inorganic salt and, optionally, other materials, the said raw material having a bulk density not greater than approximately 600 g/l; b. subjecting the said particulate raw material of low density to an agglomeration with strong shearing so as to subject the said particulate raw material to high shearing (shear) forces in intimate contact with a liquid consisting essentially of water in an amount and for a sufficient duration (1) to fluidise, moisten with the said water and mechanically grind the said raw material in order to confer a smaller particle size on it and (2) partially to agglomerate the said moistened and ground raw material; c. subjecting the said partially agglomerated raw material to an agglomeration by rotation for a sufficient duration to produce, after drying, a new agglomerated granular detergent component or composition having a bulk density of at least approximately 700 g/l; and d. drying the said new agglomerated detergent component or composition.

Process for producing detergent agglomerates from high active surfactant pastes having non-linear viscoelastic properties

A process for preparing detergent agglomerates for a detergent composition is provided. The process comprises the steps of: (a) providing a non-linear viscoelastic surfactant paste including, by weight of the surfactant paste, from about 70 % to 95 % of a detersive surfactant and from about 5 % to about 30 % of water; (b) regulating the amount of sodium carbonate in the surfactant paste such that the surfactant paste has a Maximum Shear Rate of at least 20 sec-1 so that the surfactant paste is processable; (c) charging the surfactant paste into a high speed mixer/densifier; (d) inputting from about 1 % to about 70 % by weight of a detergency builder into the high speed mixer/densifier; and (e) agglomerating the surfactant paste and the builder by treating the surfactant paste and the builder initially in the high speed mixer/densifier and subsequently in a moderate speed mixer/densifier so as to form detergent agglomerates.
