This invention relates to a non-abrasive cleaning composition comprising an aqueous solution of bleach, colloidal thickener and divalent ionic calcium source. The composition comprises at least one surfactant which exhibits a cleaning action and which thickens with the colloidal thickener and an electrolyte / buffer effective to provide an atmosphere in which the above-mentioned thickeners and surfactants can moderately thicken. The composition of the present invention comprising ionic calcium has the required viscosity and viscoelasticity and exhibits excellent viscosity stability, flow stability, phase stability and bleaching stability. The cleaning composition retains the aforementioned properties even when stored for a long time and at high temperatures. The present invention also relates to a process for preparing the cleaning composition described above and a method for cleaning the substrate using the non-abrasive cleaning composition described above.
