Textile ink jet recording method with temporary halt function

Номер: US6398358B1
Принадлежит: Canon Inc

An ink jet textile printing method forms an image on cloths in an image forming operation by repeating a step of applying ink on the cloths from an ink discharge port of a recording head, the recording head relatively main-scanning to form the image in a main scan direction, and a step of relatively conveying the cloths in a sub-scan direction. The method includes the steps of forming the image on the cloths by applying ink on the cloths from the recording head based on image data. The method further includes the step of temporarily stopping the image forming operation in accordance with an indication to effect a temporary halt of the image forming operation. When the temporary halt is indicated while the recording head performs a main scan in the image forming operation, the image forming operation by the main scan is completed, and then the temporary halt of the image forming operation is effected by moving the recording head to a standby position. The method still further includes the step of releasing the temporary halt of the image forming operation and restarting the image forming operation in accordance with an indication for releasing the temporary halt of the image forming operation. When the release of the temporary halt is indicated, ink is discharged from the ink discharge port and then the image forming operation is restarted.

Patterned application of activated carbon ink

Номер: US20060137568A1
Принадлежит: Kimberly Clark Worldwide Inc

An odor control substrate that is applied with an activated carbon ink is provided. The activated carbon ink is applied in a pattern that covers from about 25% to about 95% of the surface area of the substrate. Although not covering the entire surface, the present inventors have discovered that the activated carbon ink is still capable of providing good odor reduction qualities to the substrate. To further enhance the aesthetic appeal of the odor control substrate to a consumer, one or more colored inks may also be applied the substrate in a pattern that may or may not overlap with the activated carbon ink pattern. The colored ink(s) may contrast well with the activated carbon ink to provide an overall design that is more aesthetically than otherwise would be provided by a uniform coating of activated carbon ink.

A quilting machine ( 10, 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600 ) is provided with a printing station ( 20, 125, 225, 325, 425, 525, 611, 626, 631 ) and a quilting station ( 44, 127, 227, 327, 427, 527, 627, 632 ). The printing station is located either in line and preferably upstream of the quilting station, with a conveyor ( 520 ) extending through each of the stations to convey a web of quilting material through the machine, or is off of the quilting line such that the material with a pre-applied pattern thereon is transferred, preferably in web form, to the line of the second station for the application of a pattern in registration with the first applied pattern. At the quilting station, registration longitudinal and transverse registration is measured and skewing or rotation of the material is determined. Opposite transverse sides of the material are differently adjusted to orient and register the material. A master batch controller ( 90, 135, 235, 335, 435, 535 ) assures that the proper combinations of printed and quilted patterns are combined to allow small quantities of different quilted products to be produced automatically along a material web. Ticking is preprinted with a plurality of different patterns, organized and communicated by the computer so that a print head can scan the material and print different patterns of different panels ( 32 ) across the width of a web. Identifying data ( 40 ) for matching the panels of a mattress product can be provided in data files printed on the fabric. Cutting and slitting of the panels from each other and the quilting and combining of the panels for assembly of a mattress product can be carried out manually or automatically using the data.

A plurality of jet gun bars are spaced apart along the path of travel of a textile material and responsive to pattern data to form patterns on the material. Each gun bar stores and supplies different color dyestuff to color the material. A computer, on each periodic request, supplies pattern data to a predetermined number of gun bars, thereby providing dyestuff to different pattern lines for each request. During a change from printing one pattern to printing another different pattern, for each such request the computer provides data for the other pattern to a first predetermined number of gun bars and data for the one pattern to a second predetermined number of gun bars subsequent to the first number, thereby simultaneously completing the printing of the one pattern and starting the printing of the other pattern.

System for assigning discrete time periods for dye applicators in a textile dyeing apparatus

Номер: US5136520A

Принадлежит: Milliken Research Corp

A control system for a textile dying apparatus processes and distributes digitally encoded pattern information. A substrate is moved on a path along which the surface of the substrate comes into operative range of a plurality of arrays arranged along the path of the substrate. Each of the arrays has a plurality of individual dye applicators capable of selectively projecting a stream of dye onto a predetermined portion of the substrate corresponding to a pattern element in a pattern composed of a pattern element matrix with a plurality of pattern elements in each of a plurality of pattern rows. Each pattern element is associated with a visually distinct pattern area. The dye applicators project dye for a time period determined by the pattern information. The method first determines a set of initial values. From the initial values it generates a firing command matrix having, for each dye applicator in each array, a firing command sequence corresponding to the pattern element to which that dye applicator may apply dye in each pattern row. Finally, the method allocates, for simultaneous transmission to each dye applicator in each array, the firing command sequence in the firing command matrix corresponding to the pattern element in the pattern row to be applied to the predetermined portion of the substrate that is passing within operative range of the dye applicator at the time of transmission. <IMAGE>

A system and method for enabling customer specification of images to be used for decorating textile substrates at the economies of mass customization. An automated patterning apparatus is implemented that comprises a plurality of individual colorant substances that are directed through a set of colorant applicators in accordance with predetermined pattern data, the colorant substances capable of being selectively applied to individual pixels on the substrate in accordance with the predetermined pattern data. The system and method particularly implements a device providing an interface for enabling remote access to an image manipulation design tool that enables user customization of the digitized image to form a target image over a communications network. A digitized image of the user's choice is imported into the image manipulation design tool and that image is manipulated according the user's artistic vision. A dithering algorithm may be implemented for generating a dithered image from the digitized target image using a dithering palette of colors that are able to be generated at specified pixel locations on the textile substrate using the plurality of individual colorants. Finally, an order is generated and electronically communicated to the automated patterning apparatus for initiating transformation of the dithered image into a dyed pattern on the textile substrate. Through the use of the automated patterning apparatus, appropriate firing instructions are generated for each of the color applicators necessary to reproduce the dithered image on the substrate.

A method and apparatus for real time processing of digitally encoded pattern information suitable for distributing such information to a large number of individual pattern applicators which are grouped into a number of successive arrays. When applied to a patterning process involving the selective application of dye streams to a moving substrate, the disclosed real time processing includes transforming pattern data to corresponding dye contact times, resequencing the transformed data to compensate for physical spacing between arrays, and converting the resequenced data to logical dye stream contact commands to be sent to the individual applicators.
