Textile materials not containing wool are bleached with an aqueous solution of permonosulphuric acid or a salt thereof at a temperature up to 80 DEG C. The pH of the solution may be above 7 for natural cellulosic fibres, e.g. cotton or jute, but below 7 for cellulose acetate fibres, nylon or perlon. The solution may be used in conjunction with hydrogen peroxide or adducts thereof, perdisulphuric acid and its salts, halogen compounds or permanganates. The appropriate pH may be obtained with sulphuric acid or sodium hydroxide. Specification 394,989 is referred to.

When the encapsulated formulation is agitated such that the encapsulates are broken, the encapsulates rupture and the two aqueous solutions undergo a reaction upon contact.

Lyocell fibre of latently reduced fibrillation tendency consists essentially of cellulose having bonded thereto a colourless chemical reagent having a plurality of functional groups reactive with the cellulose, some of the functional groups having reacted with the cellulose and some of the functional groups being unreacted with the cellulose and being available for further reaction in subsequent processing. Such fibre can be produced by a process including the steps of applying the chemical reagent to lyocell fibre, inducing partial reaction between the reagent and the cellulose, and drying the fibre. The resulting fibre can then be formed into spun yarn and/or fabric before further reaction is induced between the reagent and the cellulose such that the fibre bears on average less than 0.1 residual functional group per reagent molecule reactive with cellulose.

Cellulosic material is bleached by subjecting it to the action of an aqueous solution, at a pH of about 3-11, containing an alkali or alkaline earth metal persulphate. The process is especially useful for completing the bleaching of material already partially bleached by the customary methods, and is applicable to wood pulp, cotton linters and textile fibres, e.g. of cotton, hemp or regenerated cellulose. Specified chlorites are those of sodium and calcium and specified persulphates are those of sodium and potassium. A method of treating a dyed terry cloth to produce a frosted appearance includes the steps of impregnating granules of an absorbent material with a solution including a bleaching agent, and contacting the terry cloth with the granules for a time sufficient to bleach at least a portion of the dye from the naps of the terry cloth. In one aspect, the method includes forming a mixture of non-wood fibers and exposing the mixture to a brightening agent to produce brightened fibers. Disclosed are processes for manufacturing cross-linked cellulosic fibers and tissue products comprising cross-linked cellulosic fibers, manufactured by reacting an oxidized polyol, in particular, an oxidized sugar having at least two aldehyde groups with a plurality of cellulosic fibers to yield treated fibers and heating the treated fibers at a temperature greater than about 140° C. to cure the treated fibers. The instant cross-linked fibers are manufactured without well-known cross-linking agents such as formaldehyde or polycarboxylic acids, and have good brightness and color and resist yellowing. Furthermore, the cross-linked cellulosic fibers are generally free from off odors and the instant cross-linked cellulosic fibers have enhanced properties, such as improved wet bulk, compared to uncross-linked fibers. 1. A method of manufacturing cross-linked cellulosic fibers comprising the steps of providing a plurality of cellulosic fibers , forming the plurality of cellulosic fibers into a mat , treating the mat with an oxidized polyol to yield treated cellulosic fibers and drying the treated cellulosic fibers.2. The CIE whiteness of the fabric reaches 77 and above, the fabric wettability after treatment is also improved, the damage of the fabric is smaller, and the amount of water used by the method is small. The fabric only needs to have a certain wet pick-up, and a large amount of fabric can be treated by a certain volume of solution, which effectively reduces waste water treatment, saves energy and protects the environment; the method requires a short treatment time and has high bleaching efficiency. 1. A method for bleaching laundry and household surfaces is provided which includes preparing a wash medium with a bleaching composition incorporating polyoxometalates and being free of any effective amount of a bleaching agent such as hydrogen peroxide, organic peracids, inorganic peracids, organic persalts, inorganic persalts, Caro's acid, Caroates and mixtures thereof. A second step involves contacting a stained substrate such as a fabric, kitchenware or a household hard surface for a time and in an amount sufficient to remove the stains. Air is employed as a primary source of oxygen atoms for bleaching.

A hollow fabric is obtained by providing cotton blended yarns and alkali-soluble polyester yarns which are arranged in a ratio of 10:2 as warp yarns, and providing cotton blended elastic yarns and alkali-soluble polyester filaments which are arranged in a ratio of 6:2 as weft yarns. The warp yarns and weft yarns are interwoven into plain weaves, and the plain weaves are subjected to alkali solution to remove the alkali-soluble polyester filaments, thereby obtaining greige cloth having meshes. The greige is subjected to boiled bleaching, softening and drying to obtain the hollow fabric. By optimizing the ratio of yarns and using a boiled bleaching, softening and drying process, a soft, smooth and fluffy product is produced with humidity-absorbing and breathability characteristics.
