The wet-fastness of dyeings and prints made with water-soluble substantive dyestuffs on cellulose fibres is enhanced by treating them with an aqueous solution of a resin made by condensing an aldehyde, a complex copper salt and a compound of the urea family containing at least once the grouping <FORM:0736792/IV (c)/1> The condensation may be performed in presence of an ammonium salt, an amine or an amine salt. The Specification contains lists of reactants. If the dyestuffs are capable of being after-metallized, the treatment may be performed in presence of a copper complex or copper salt, e.g. copper chloride, copper acetate or copper tartrate. In examples: (1) cotton yarn dyed with Benzolichtrot 8BL is treated with an aqueous solution of a condensate of bis-(diethylenetriamine)-copper chloride, dicyandiamide and formaldehyde; (4) cotton fibres which are dyed with the diazo dyestuff obtained by coupling diazotized 1-amino-naphthalene-3,7-disulphonic acid with 1-amino-2-methoxy-5-methylbenzene and reacting the product with phosgene are treated with the condensation product of biguanide copper acetate, ammonium chloride, dicyandiamide and formaldehyde.ALSO:Water-soluble condensates are made by condensing together (1) a nitrogen-containing complex copper compound; (2) an aldehyde; and (3) a compound having one or more of the groups <FORM:0736792/IV (a)/1> Condensation is effected by heating to produce a dark violet, blue or green solution which may be heated to dryness in vacuo and the remaining resin subjected to further condensation by heating. The wet fastness properties of direct or reactive dyeings on cellulosic substrates are improved by aftertreatment with an agent comprising (A) a linear or crosslinked polymer comprising repeating units containing at least two quaternary nitrogen atoms linked by bridging groups connected to the quaternary nitrogen atoms by alkylene or arylene groups; optionally (B) an N-methylol derivative of a urea, melamine, guanamine, triazinone, urone, carbamate or acid amide; and, as an essential component, (C) a catalyst for the cross-linking of N-methylol compounds of the type (B) above, and subsequently carrying out a heat-curing step. Textile printing pastes contain water-soluble anionic dyestuffs which are converted before the fixing process into difficulty soluble or insoluble compounds and these compounds are subsequently converted, on the fibre, to a form which is capable of dyeing the fibre, said conversion being effected by a heat treatment in the presence of water. The said difficulty soluble or insoluble compounds may be obtained by reaction of the dyestuffs with organic nitrogen bases and/or their salt-like compounds (other than unsubstituted guanidine and unsubstituted guanyl urea) which contain at least one grouping of the formula wherein X1 and X2 which are the same or different are H atoms or alkyl or aryl groups. Textile treatment compositions are produced by a process which comprises mixing in a solvent urea, glyoxal and formaldehyde, as such or as a substance yielding formaldehyde, in a molar ratio of 1:1:2 to 2.5, to form a solution and reacting said urea, glyoxal and formaldehyde at pH of 1.5 to 6.0 and at a temperature of 25 DEG C. to 95 DEG C. for a period of 30 minutes to 72 hours. From 2 to 5 moles of a C1 to C4 alkanol may be incorporated in the solution. The preferred solvent is water. The compositions may be applied to fabrics and cured at 200 to 400 DEG F. using zinc nitrite, zirconium oxychloride, maleic anhydride magnesium chloride, oxalic acid, lactic acid and 2-amino -2- methyl -1- propanol hydrochloride as curing agents. Fibrous materials are dyed or printed with aqueous preparations containing phthalocyanine dyestuffs, which contain acidic groups imparting solubility in water and do not form covalent bonds with the fibrous material or with aminoplasts, and contain aminoplasts that are soluble or at least dispersible in water, and the material is then cured in the presence of an acidic catalyst. The fibrous materials may be paper, leather or glass fibres or textile fibres of cellulose acetate, polyamide, polyurethane, polyacrylonitrile, polyesters or especially cellulose fibres such as spun rayon, linen or cotton. A textile material is both coloured and water-proofed by impregnation with an aqueous padding solution comprising an aminoplast resin and a substance which generates acid on heating in addition to colouring and water-proofing agents followed by drying and baking. The textile material may be cotton, cellulose triacetate, polyamide, or polyethylene terephthalate. The aminoplast resin may be a urea-, ethyleneurea-, or melamine-formaldehyde resin. The acid generating substance may be ammonium dihydrogen phosphate, ammonium thiocyanate, or zinc nitrate. The colouring agent may be a pigment, disperse dyestuff or vat dyestuff. The water-proofing agent may be methylol stearamide (present as dispersion) or stearamido methyl pyridinium chloride. Padding may be at 10-25 DEG C, drying at 60-70 DEG C, and baking at 150-190 DEG C. The padding solution may also contain an acrylic polymer as dyestuff-migration preventative.

Disperse Dye Color Paste for Waterless Dyeing, and Preparation Method and Application Thereof

The invention provides a disperse dye color paste for waterless dyeing, which comprises, by weight, 10%-40% of disperse dye filter cakes, 2%-35% of a dispersant, 5%-20% of a dyeing auxiliary, 0.1-0.5% of a surfactant, and 20%-88% of a solvent. The disperse dye color paste for waterless dyeing of the invention has a small particle size; and after waterless dyeing, a textile does not contain cleavable carcinogenic aromatic amine azo dyes, allergenic dyes, forbidden aromatic amine or bioactive substances. The disperse dye color paste for waterless dyeing of the invention can be stably stored for 6-12 months which is beneficial to the transportation of dyes and the production management of dyeing factories. Moreover, a dyeing effect featuring a high fixation rate is realized after the disperse dye color paste for waterless dyeing is applied to textiles.

Piece goods of cellulose fibres mixed with synthetic fibres, pref. polyester fibres are simultaneously coloured and made hydrophobic by impregnation of the textile material at room temp. with an aq. dye liquor which in addn. to reactive dyes and dispersion dyes contains heat-condensable or fibre-philic agent for making hydrophobic and possibly catalysts necessary for the condensation, a protective colloid and possibly a heat active alkali spender. The treated articles are dried, then undergo a thermal treatment for fixing of the dispersion dye as well as for condsn of the hydrophobing agent using dry heat at 140-210 degrees C. Finally the fixing of the reactive dye is carried out by the wet-fixing method. This single bath treatment is cheaper than previous processes.

A hydroxy gp-contg. fibrous substrate is treated with a novel after treatment agent comprising a precondensate of (A) the reaction prod. of a mono- or polyfunctional prim. or sec. amine with cyanamide, dicyandiamide (DCDA) or (bi)guanidine; or ammonia with cyanamide or DCDA; and either (B) an epihalohydrin (precursor); (C) formaldehyde (precursor); or (D) a dihydroxyalkyleneurea (methyl ether) followed by formaldehyde (precursor) opt. with (E) an N-methylol deriv. of urea, malamine, guanamine, triazurene, urone, carbamate or acid amide. If (A) is used with (C) or (D), or (E) is present then (F) a crosslinking catalyst is also used followed by crosslinking. Up to 50 mole % of cyanamide, DCDA or (bi)guanidene may be replaced with a dicarboxylic acid (mono- or di-ester) in (A), with (A) contg. reactive H atoms bound to N. The after treatment agent improves the wet fastness of dyes or optical brighteners, particularly to washing in alkaline conditions at 40-90 partic. at least 60 deg.C. e.g. repeated 30 min. 60 deg.C. washings in a liquor contg. 5g/l soap and 2g/l soda at a goods to liquor ratio of 1:50 are readily withstood. Unfixed reactive dyes need not be removed and a resin finish is imparted to the fibres giving reduced swelling in aq. or alkaline media and hence more rapid drying, improved dimensional stability and higher crease resistance.

The printing pastes have a pH of 4.5 - 7.5 and contain thickeners with no reactive H to react with the aminoplast resins present. Suitable thickeners are synthetic polymers, esp. copolymers from maleic anhydride and vinyl isobutyl ether, lightly cross-linked with hexamethylene diamine, or alkali salts of polyacrylic acid opt. lightly cross-linked e.g. with divinyl dioxane. Stability of the printing pastes is substantially higher than strongly alkaline pastes, dye yields and brilliance are improved, and with light and medium shades, post-washing to remove unfixed dye can be eliminated. A hydroxy gp-contg. fibrous substrate is treated with a novel after treatment agent comprising a precondensate of (A) the reaction prod. of a mono- or polyfunctional prim. or sec. amine with cyanamide, dicyandiamide (DCDA) or (bi)guanidine; or ammonia with cyanamide or DCDA; and either (B) an epihalohydrin (precursor); (C) formaldehyde (precursor); or (D) a dihydroxyalkyleneurea (methyl ether) followed by formaldehyde (precursor) opt. with (E) an N-methylol deriv. of urea, malamine, guanamine, triazurene, urone, carbamate or acid amide. If (A) is used with (C) or (D), or (E) is present then (F) a crosslinking catalyst is also used followed by crosslinking. Up to 50 mole % of cyanamide, DCDA or (bi)guanidene may be replaced with a dicarboxylic acid (mono- or di-ester) in (A), with (A) contg. reactive H atoms bound to N. The after treatment agent improves the wet fastness of dyes or optical brighteners, particularly to washing in alkaline conditions at 40-90 partic. at least 60 deg.C. e.g. repeated 30 min. 60 deg.C. washings in a liquor contg. 5g/l soap and 2g/l soda at a goods to liquor ratio of 1:50 are readily withstood. Unfixed reactive dyes need not be removed and a resin finish is imparted to the fibres giving reduced swelling in aq. or alkaline media and hence more rapid drying, improved dimensional stability and higher crease resistance.

[Classes 2 (iii) and 15 (ii)] The fastness to water of dyeings with direct dyes on cellulosic textile materials is improved by treating the dyed materials with a watersoluble condensation product, obtainable as . described in Specification 207,499, [Class 2 (iii)], from hexamethylenetetramine and an alkyl, hydroxyalkyl or alkenyl halide containing not more than 4 carbon atoms. Alternatively the treatment may be with a salt of such a condensation product. The fastness to washing is improved by a simultaneous treatment with formaldehyde or a substance yielding formaldehyde, in which case the materials are dried at a raised temperature. Specified halides for condensation with the hexamethylenetetramine are methyl, ethyl, propyl, isopropyl, butyl, isobutyl and allyl chlorides and ethylene chlorohydrin. In examples,(1) cotton limbric, dyed with Chlorazol fast orange RS, is treated for 20 minutes with an aqueous solution at 33‹C: containing 0.025 per cent of the condensation product, neutralized with hydrochloric acid, from hexamethylenetetramine and ethyl chloride; rinsed and dried ; (2) cotton limbric, dyed with Chlorazol fast helio 2RKS, is treated for 20 minutes with a similar aqueous solution at 20‹C., rinsed and dried in hot air ; (3) and (4) spun viscose and cotton limbric materials, dyed with Chlorazol fast red KS, are treated as in (1) ; (5) and (6) cotton'limbric, dyed with Chlorazol fast helio 2RHS, is padded with an aqueous solution at 10‹C. containing 1 per cent of the condensation product, neutralized or not with hydrochloric acid, from hexamethylenetetramine and ethyl chloride, and dried; (7) cotton limbric dyed with Chlorazol fast red RS is padded with an aqueous solution at 10‹C. containing formaldehyde and 2 per cent of the condensation product, neutralized with hydrochloric acid, from hexamethylenetetramine and ethyl ...

Textile materials of natural or regenerated cellulose are dyed, and may be finished, with a water-soluble or difficulty water-soluble metal complex dyestuff in the presence of an acid or acid-reacting substance together with a hardenable aminoplast-forming substance and/or a primary component of such a substance (as defined below) and an aldehyde or a compound which splits off formaldehyde, and the material is then subjected to treatment at an elevated temperature. Hardenable aminoplast-forming substances are methylol derivatives of nitrogenous compounds, having a low molecular weight, and are defined as compounds which contain at least once and up to ten times in the molecule the group <FORM:0843720/IV (c)/1> , where X is O, S, or NH, R may be hydrogen, or an alkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl radical in which the carbon chain or ring may be interrupted by hetero atoms, and R1 may be hydrogen or an alkyl radical. Examples include dimethylolurea, dimethyldimethylolurea, dimethyloldicyandiamide, methylolthiourea, dimethylolguanidine, trimethylolmelamine, triphenyltrimethylolmelamine, diphenyldimethylolurea, methylolderivatives of mono- and di-ureides, carboxylic acid amides and diamides, urethanes and polyurethanes (e.g. butane-dioldiurethane), and methylol derivatives of triazones, lactams, polyamides and ethyleneureas. Primary components of aminoplast-forming substances are defined as compounds containing at least once in the molecule the group <FORM:0843720/IV (c)/2> (symbols as above). Examples include urea, thiourea, dicyandiamide, dicyandiamidine, guanidine, and melamine. Suitable aldehydes include formaldehyde, glyoxal and acetaldehyde and suitable compounds splitting off formaldehyde include paraformaldehyde and hexamethylene tetramine. An aqueous dispersion of water-insoluble substances has as dispersant water-soluble, curable ethers of methylolamines or methylolureas whose methylol groups are etherified both with monohydric alcohols containing from 4 to 7 carbon atoms and with polyethylene glycols. The dispersant may be made from formaldehyde condensation products of melamine or urea and monohydric alcohols, for example, amyl alcohol, hexanol-1, 2-ethylbutanol-1, benzyl alcohol, butyl alcohol, and polyethyleneglycols of molecular weights from 600 to 20,000. The water insoluble substances may be oils, fats, waxes, polysiloxanes; aliphatic, aromatic or cycloaliphatic hydrocarbons or chlorinated hydrocarbons (examples are given); resins such as epoxy, alkyd, polyester, polyamide, polyurethane resins; acetylcellulose; nitrocellulose; homopolymers and copolymers of -CH = C< compounds; condensation products of formal-dehyde with phenol, urea or aminotriazines; pesticides; optical brighteners; plasticizers such as dibutyl phthalate; pigments such as copper phthalocyanines, vat dyestuffs, azo dyestuffs, carbon blacks, metal powders, titanium dioxide, lithopones. For dispersing water-insoluble solids, 0.5 to 2 or more parts by weight of dispersant are used for every part by weight of the solid. For dispersing water-insoluble liquids, there may be used 1 to 2 parts by weight of the dispersant for every 100 parts by weight of the liquid.
