SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for continuous precipitation of lignin from black liquor, wherein pH of the black liquor is lowered to the lignin precipitation point and the precipitated lignin is separated from the black liquor. The black liquor is fed so as to flow as a pressurised stream in a reactor (2) with a dwell time of less than 300 s; an acidifying agent selected from a group consisting of carbon dioxide, an acid and combinations thereof is fed to the stream at one or more feeding points (2a) in order to lower the pH of black liquor; the pH is allowed to decrease under the effect of the acidifying agent in the pressurised stream to the lignin precipitation point; the pressure of the pressurised stream is abruptly released, and lignin particles are separated from black liquor. There has been provided a system and apparatus for recovering turpentine from a thermomechanical pulping process for making paper, which thermomechanical pulping process utilizes a plug screw conveyor for squeezing and feeding pulp chips. The thermomechanical pulping process is conventional. The liquid effluent from said plug screw conveyor contains an appreciable amount of turpentine. The liquid effluent is collected under superatmospheric pressure and flashed into vapor/liquid separator by releasing the pressure on the liquid. This vapor is condensed in a suitable condenser and the condensate collected in a decanter where the turpentine collects as a separate phase and the water also as a separate phase. Condensate from various vents in the conventional thermomechanical pulping process may be collected for more nearly complete removal of turpentine and other oleoresinone components.

Effluents are minimized from a cellulose pulp mill having a recovery boiler by concentrating liquid effluents from the bleach plant and/or liquid spills from process streams, incinerating the concentrated effluents in the recovery boiler, removing particles present in the flue gases from the recovery boiler to produce an ash including salts containing potassium and chloride, and sulfur compounds, and removing the potassium and chloride from the ash while returning the sulfur containing compounds to the recovery loop, so as to balance the sulfur, chloride and potassium levels in the mill. The sulfur is typically returned directly to a stream of black liquor just before entry into the recovery boiler. Green liquor is produced from the melt, which preferably is treated to remove metals from it prior to caustization (e.g. by sedimentation and/or filtration), and prior to green liquor crystallization to produce sodium hydroxide.

Steam (preferably clean steam) having less noncondensible gases than steam produced by conventional black liquor flashing is produced from hot black liquor from a digester of a pulp mill. A heat exchanger (19) is utilized and the hot black liquor is passed through the heat exchanger in heat exchange contact with an evaporable liquid (18), preferably clean water. After the water is heated in the heat exchanger it is flashed in at least one flash tank (21, 22) where the heat exchanger is a liquid-to-liquid heat exchanger. The heat exchanger may alternatively include an evaporator (27) (such as a falling film evaporator) in which case the black liquor is passed through an inductor (26) before it enters the evaporator. Alternatively, the heat exchanger may be one or more boilers (42, 43), such as kettle boilers, in which case the black liquor preferably passes through a cooler (44) after the boilers. Through the addition of pre-evaporated black liquor, either as early as the impregnation stage or during the subsequent cooking stage, an improved delignification process is achieved in which the pulp obtains improved properties, primarily with respect to strength/viscosity for a given degree of delignification, and also with respect to yield. The method can be used both for continuous cooking and for batch cooking of cellulose pulp.

A hydrolysis unit receives the extract, hydrolyzes and outputs to a lignin separation device, which separates and recovers a quantity of lignin. A neutralization device receives extract from the lignin separation device and a neutralizing agent, producing a mixture of solid precipitate and a fifth extract. The solid precipitate is removed from the fifth extract. A second evaporator removes a quantity of acid from the fifth extract in a vapor form. This vapor may be recycled to improve total acid recovery or discarded. A desalination device receives the diluted extract, separates out some of the acid and salt and outputs a desalinated solution.

A method used in connection with the recovery of pulping chemicals from spent pulping liquor produced by kraft-type pulping at very high sulphidity. In the method, spent pulping liquor is acidified to a relatively low pH which converts a most or all of the sulphide and hydrosulphide in the liquor to hydrogen sulfide. Sulphur containing gases released from the acidification of the spent pulping liquor, together with other sulphur gases collected at the pulp mill, are converted into an acid compound. This acid compound is employed as an acidification agent in the acidification of the spent pulping liquor. The amount of acid compound generated by the conversion of sulphur containing gases may be sufficient to provide most, if not all, of the acid needed for the acidification of the spent pulping liquor. 1. A method to be used in connection with recovery of pulping chemicals from spent pulping liquor produced by kraft-type alkaline pulping at very high sulphidity , the method comprising:a) acidifying the spent pulping liquor in one or more stages to a pH low enough to convert at least a large portion of both hydrosulphide ions and the sulphide ions in the spent pulping liquor into hydrogen sulphide,b) converting to an acid compound sulphur containing gases released in the acidification process of step a), wherein the sulphur containing gases comprise hydrogen sulphide, andc) the acid compound generated in step b) is employed in step a) and the amount of the acid compound generated in step b) is sufficient in quantity to provide at least most of the acid required in step a).2. The method as in claim 1 , wherein the sulphidity employed in the pulping stage is in the range of 50 percent to 100 percent.3. The present invention describes a process for continuous fractionation of CTO (crude tall oil) to RTD (refined tall diesel), said process comprising:- when removing a stream of TOP (tall oil pitch) the CTO is fed though at least two evaporation zones arranged in series so that one stream of CTO is fed from a first evaporation zone to a second evaporation zone, wherein a TOP stream is produced and fed from the second evaporation zone, wherein a first vapor stream is produced within the first evaporation zone and a second vapor stream is produced within the second evaporation zone and wherein there is a temperature difference of at least 10°C between the first vapor stream and the second vapor stream; and - feeding the first vapor stream and the second vapor stream into a subsequent fractionation column to produce a stream of RTD from the fractionation column, wherein the first vapor stream and the second vapor stream are being fed to different positions, relative to the column height, in the fractionation column, which different positions in the fractionation column are separated by packing means.

Methods of black lye recycling are intended for production of inorganic material and synthesis-gas. Methods for recycling of black lye include supply of heated fluidising gas into reactor process area provided with mass of loose material from oxide of alkali earth metal or containing oxide of this metal. Vortical flow of loose material is generated in this area of reactor so that loose material takes the shape of compact strip and circulates around axis of mentioned process area in the form of turbulent flow, creating fluidisated later. At that fluidising gas contains substoichiometric amount of oxygen for partial oxidation of black lye organic material and for transformation of other organic material of black lye into synthesis-gas. Then black lye is supplied into compact strip of loose material so that it is heated up to the temperature of 650-725°C and gasified. From this layer synthesis-gas is extracted in the form of spent gas, as well as inorganic material in the form of hard substance. Method may be used separately or as part of method for transformation of grass raw material into pulp for production of paper or cardboard. Method for production of pulp from grass raw material includes the following stages: (a) digestion of mentioned raw material with application of white lye that mainly contains sodium hydroxide and calcium hydroxide in amount sufficient for complete transformation of silica available in mentioned raw material into calcium silicate; (b) extraction of pulp and black lye free from free silica; (c) heating of black lye in reactor with fluidisated layer that contains calcium oxide for catalytic transformation of organic substance contained in mentioned black lye into gas and for production of regenerated hard ...

A B S T R A C T According to the invention the chemical losses in the pulping process are covered by the addition of residual solutions from other processes containing appropriate chemicals, to the final evaporator in the spent liquor evaporation process. This avoids salts being deposited on the heating surfaces, which occurs when the residual solutions are added to the weak liquor as in one of the methods used today. Capacity losses are avoided and the thermal eco-nomy is improved. In the other method currently used, residual solutions are added to the concentrated waste liquor before the spraying into the soda recovery boiler, the concentrated waste liquor being diluted. However, in the method according to the inven-tion there is no such dilution, resulting in better thermal economy.

The invention also relates to a cleaning plant.

A method is provided for treating black liquor particularly derived from nonwood pulp, by heating with an alkaline earth metal oxide in a toroidal fluidised bed reactor (304) at a temperature of above 650~C. The method may be used alone or as part of a method of converting graminaceous raw material to pulp for paper or board, said method comprising (a) digesting (12) said raw material with a white liquor based on sodium hydroxide and further comprising calcium hydroxide in an amount effective to substantially convert silica of said raw material to calcium silicate; (b) recovering (14) pulp and black liquor substantially free of uncombined silica; (c) heating the black liquor in a fluidized bed reactor (304) containing calcium oxide for catalysing conversion of organic content of said black liquor to gas and for providing recovered solids including sodium values of said white liquor and calcium oxide; and regenerating said white liquor using said recovered solids. The use of the above mentioned white liquor permits treatment of wheat straw, rice straw and other high-silica materials (9) without resulting in a black liquor that is difficult to treat.

Effluents are minimized from a cellulose pulp mill having a recovery boiler by concentrating liquid effluents from the bleach plant and/or liquid spills from process streams, incinerating the concentrated effluents in the recovery boiler, removing particles present in the flue gases from the recovery boiler to produce an ash including salts containing potassium and chloride, and sulfur compounds, and removing the potassium and chloride from the ash while returning the sulfur containing compounds to the recovery loop, so as to balance the sulfur, chloride and potassium levels in the mill. The sulfur is typically returned directly to a stream of black liquor just before entry into the recovery boiler. Green liquor is produced from the melt, which preferably is treated to remove metals from it prior to caustization (e.g. by sedimentation and/or filtration), and prior to green liquor crystallization to produce sodium hydroxide.

A invenção refere-se também a uma planta para purificação.

The present invention relates to a method of producing steam at a digester plant of a chemical pulp mill. Black liquor is discharged from the digester (17) at a first temperature and pressure. The black liquor is treated in a flash tank (34) for generating flashed black liquor and flash steam at a second temperature and a second pressure, which are lower than the first temperature and pressure. The flashed black liquor (35) is taken for further treatment to the evaporation plant. The flash steam (38) is led to an indirect heat exchange contact with clean liquid in the reboiler (39) for boiling the liquid and for generating steam. The steam is led from the reboiler (39) into a fan or compressor (41) for increasing the steam pressure to a third pressure, which is higher than the second pressure and for adjusting the pressure of the steam in the flash tank. Steam at a third pressure is used for pretreating comminuted cellulosic fiber material, such as chips, prior to cooking.

The distributor comprises a channel array (3, 4) that distributes the liquid (8) fed in at the sides of the evaporator to the top of the heat transfer surface (5), over the whole width thereof. The channel array is formed of at least one transversal supply channel (3) and of a number of distribution channels (4) departing downwards from the supply channel and leading to the heat transfer surface (5). The invention is characterized in that each distribution channel (4) is provided, on its side located downstream with respect to the supply channel flow (8, 11), with a step-shaped expansion (14) bordered by a sharp point (15), the purpose of said expansion being to prevent liquid suction created in the channel due to the effect of siphonage. The junctions (9) of the supply channel (3) and the distribution channels (4) can be provided with rounded division surfaces (12), on which the liquid is distributed into the channels at each instant, and under which the step-shaped expansions (14) start.

A method for pulp processing includes a cold caustic extraction stage in which the spent cold caustic solution and the spent liquid used to wash the extracted pulp are concentrated by an evaporation system. The concentrated liquid can be used as part of the neutralization and cooking liquor in the pulp process, leading to increased efficiency without significant reduction in pulp quality. Highly concentrated filtrate from the cold caustic extraction stage may help reduce hemicellulose deposition on wood fiber during the cooking step.
